do you need all 61 keys or should i go for the cheaper 49 key version?

@iGlowInTheDark88 It depends. If you want to create beats, and simple music, 49 keys will be OK and you can change notes, octaves, ... with your software. However if you want to play/learn piano 61 keys (or even 88) will be better. But personally I used the 61es and it was sometimes not enough for some musics :-)

@MilyOfficiel Firstly, do you know that this is only a MIDI controller ? (it means that you need a computer with speakers and a software to make it work) If you do, what software do you use ? Does your computer recognize the device ? I try to know if it's a software or a hardware problem.

@bpl711 What is it used for? To sustain (hold) the notes like on a real acoustic piano..Can be used for any synth with midi. Where does it plugin? There's an input in plain sight :)

@shaneaung8 Asio4all is a third party virtual driver software. There are several reasons it may not work (google for an easier explanation_) I'm assuming you use an onboard soundcard? If not what do you use? Asio4all is a bit harder to configure on windows 7 but should work on most systems. As for the keyboard it dosen't 'use' this but if you can't have real asio surported audio interface a4all is the way to go. Try disabling microsoft gs wavetabloe synth and selecting only on input and output.

I didn't use LIVE lite 6 but I'm going to try it and see how it works to configure the keyboard.

If you only need the drivers, you can download them from the official M-audio website.

@adulscaletta At first there are different "piano" sounds in garageband (version 09') :

Grand piano, Grand piano On Stage, Grand Piano Punchy, ...

You can buy any MIDI controller, it's always the same sound of the piano by garageband.

I think that there is the same piano sound in their professional software (Logic Pro)

The thing that is different is the feel of the keys.

I don't know if what I mean is clear for you...

For me it sounds great if you use good speakers / headphones.

It's not so light but the keys feel a bit "cheap", only semi weighted and they make a little bit of noise.

If you search a really good quality keyboard, it's maybe not the one you need.

It bought it for something like 200 euro, its great for its price.

You can't use it standalone.... you need a computer.

I use garageband 09 when I plug it and turn it on a message says me that a new MIDI keyboard has been found.

@Izugart Well it depends.

If it's to begin with a music software to compose and learn the basics I would say yes. You have to use it with a computer there is no speakers it's just a controller.

BUT if it's to learn how to play piano it's only semi weighted keys so it does not feel at all like a real piano.

And its price is correct.

I'm happy with it but if I wanted something better I could buy a 88es.

@Xend54 Yes, I mean I just need the USB MIDI in/out cable to use it with my computer.

So the keyboard get its power by this USB MIDI in/out cable ( see the white port in this video at 1:05 ).

In the "Drivers and Software Search" part of the official M-AUDIO SUPPORT website, there only are drivers for XP, Vista (32/64bit) and OSX.

I suppose (I saw on forums that it worked great for some people) but sorry I'm not certain. :-(
