i love seeing that p51 fly! well any p51! for that matter! i think i was born 60 years too late! in WWII i would have done anything to fly a p51, but being a tanker as i am, in the army today is almost just as good! lol
When changing formation the "leads" change of course right? I noticed the pilots heads swiveling.shouldn't their gaze be locked on the adjacent aircraft & NOT swiveling? My take on formation flying is all pilots have their assigned aircraft to reference from...& the lead is in charge of headings, attitude & altitude. Point is, if the lead flys into the ground (NOT) the rest of the formation does the same as their attention is solely upon the adjacent aircraft..Correct?
Generally, the lead ship does not change during a flight, unless predetermined at the pilots pre-flight meeting. The lead ship is usually up front. You can always tell the lead pilot because he is the only one who will swivel his head during the flight. The other pilots almost never take their eyes off of the lead ship, or the ship who between them and the lead ship. They barely check their instruments.
Four Thunderbirds flew into the ground many years ago by following the lead, but this was during a loop (I believe). It would be hard for a straight and level formation to all fly into the ground, as the pilots are all very aware of their proximity to the ground.
what are those other planes running on diesel? look at the colour of the exhaust gases have make against the fuselage running rich or wot

isn't Red Dog XII, the P-51 that Dan Martin restored in Hollister, Calif. ?
Damn, that Skyraider Wright 3350 sure goes through the oil!
rampking1 2 years ago
I don't think it's the same plane. It's owned by Duane Doyle of Pleasanton and based at Livermore, CA. Duane also owns the blue T-28 in the video.

I have a hunch you will enjoy it. ;-)

Does that P-51 Mustang belong to a member of the Tuskegee Airman.
Stuka87SS 2 years ago
No. To the best of my knowledge, no Tuskegee Airman owns a P-51. All of the original Tuskegee Airmen are now in their mid 80's.
The P-51 and the dark blue T-28 are owned by Duane Doyle. Duane is piloting the T-28 and his friend Wayne Watts is flying the Mustang.

no it is not one of there planes too many kills

@Stuka87SS No that's actually a 4th FG paint scheme, not Tuskegee.
