Thumb picking Washburn Rover "When Shiloh Comes"

It's not no Washburn to begin with. Skylarks sells the same under their name: Skylark TG11 Travel Acoustic Guitar. So it's possibly made by some kid inn China. The saddle came partly unglued, and the case and belts smell toxic: 2 month on the porch haven't changed that. Otherwise, it plays pretty well with all the to be expected sound limitations this size must have. Reminds me somewhat of an old Western piano. Good buy.

Hello friend, you have a good memory, but oddly enough when I wrote this piece, I was not even thinking of Neil Diamond.

My frame of reference was more Biblical, as in Genesis 49:10.

My Shiloh refers to the coming of Christ. He came and as I mentioned in my brief notes in the song He will come again!

Friend, I honestly haven't found a better playing guitar. In other videos I have, you'll see a Martin and also an Epiphone Les Paul. This little Rover plays and notes as well as either of those. But please keep in mind that I don't use a pick and have had the action lowered on the Rover. That no doubt helps it play so easily.

I highly recommend the little guitar.

Wow! excellent guitar work! Thanks for sharing your talent. Seems like the action on your rover is quite low, mine has very high action even after i sanded down the saddle... did you do anything special to lower the action?

I bought my Rover from Oklahoma Vintage Guitar online. They were good enough to lower the action on mine before I got it, at no extra charge!

Any good luthier can fix you right up at a good price, and in my opinion it is worth it to have the easy fretboard action. This guitar plays as easy as my Martin in the other video.

In my opinion, this guitar is far better than most full size guitars that are sold as beginner guitars.

If you are new, you might want to get a full size in order to learn how to properly hold a guitar. How you hold it can affect how you play. Try a good used Yamaha or Washburn in your local store to see how they feel.

Should I keep the original strings on, or put some heavier ones, in the case I do get one? I've fiddled around with em but though I love the sound I find em a bit hard to bend 'cause you have to stretch almost three strings length to get a full bend...

It's totally fun to play! And indeed light and small to carry around. Supposed to fit in "most" airplane's overhead compartments. In reality it obviously fits, but with reglementations now millage may vary... Better work out when I get back home!

Good stuff. I've owned my Rover for a few years now and it has survived a hell of a lot of abuse! It fits in the rear hatch of my kayak and I bring it along on all my trips. The perfect instrument for the avid outdoorsman. It sounds just as good as the day I bought it. I would recommend anti-corrosion strings if you plan on busting it out around the campfire on a chilly night though. It's got great action and decent sound.

May I say that given the choice between the Rover and the Backpacker, having played both, the Rover far outshines the Martin.

The Rover has a much lower natural action and in my humble opinion, produces a better resonance. The sound from this video is straight acoustic with no microphone, using Martin M130 Silk & Steel strings via my Nikon Coolpix camera.

This is an excellent gem of a ditty!!! I slashed my finger open, so I'm mending and can't play, but as soon as I'm back, I'm learning how to jam out like this! I like music that sounds this way, and I've got several things I play on guitar that are similar, but this exact style's name escapes me. Very skilled! Keep it up!

I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone interested in playing.

If you are brand new, I'd suggest that you get a full sized guitar so you can get a better feel of how to hold and balance the guitar.

Lovely video! I've actually got a video up with my Washburn Rover, (just roughly strumming it, not as nice or classy as this) if anyone's interested, it's in the blue finish. They ARE highly recommendable! Lots of people don't seem to "get" them, but I can assure anyone who's thinking of purchasing one that they have a lovely action, are great fun to play and sound good.
