One of the first things I did was got to a Military-style guide rod "plug" thing. If I take a little allen wrench to the range, it'll be lost in the grass to never be found again. At least, that's what would happen to me...
Hey just wondering where can I order a good magazine that hold more then 7 round For the Springfield 1911 loaded and if is 10 round does it stick out to much. Also wich one would you pick Springfield or kimber 1911 if they were the same price
hey pete does your "loaded" 1911 have a number scribed into the slide on the inside on top of where the barrel goes? if so what does this number mean? mine is 067 by the way thanks for the excellent dissasembly and reassembly
Dude that a beautiful fucking gun man! I want this gun i'm so going to get one and send you a picture. Thanks for all your great advice. Keep um coming!
hey pete can u use any kinda grase ? i have use wheel grase b4 when i ran out every lightely after hunting when it was rainy on the way out till i got to the store can u use that on rails on a auto like this 1 but of corse verylite ?
Hey man, nice series of vids and good luck becoming a partner. I like your GI better but this one is nice too, I'm into classic military firearms is all.
hydra..it's done all the time with revolvers so not a big deal when care is taken. been doing it for 30 years with not a problem. what's more important is not to change direction mid-way through the barrel when using a metal brush because what happens is that the metal bristles actually dig into the barrel and causes micro-damage. always run the brush all the way through before reversing direction.
hydrashok, i agree little tubes of grease is the biggest ripoff. is that white lithium grease you use? where do you get it? i'm thinking automotive supply?
i've been hearing about this white lithium bearing grease...when i'm done with the crap i have i'm going to pick up a tub...probably will last me forever..thanks for the info! mike
I wouldn't use the miltec for long term storage. It is not that great of a rust inhibitor. It works for day to day use but not for long term. Check out some threads type it in google.
I've seen test where a guy took steel and put all the different gun lubes/oils on it and left it outside for a year, the miltec did horrible and rust was all over the metal. Some are much better then others as a metal protectant.
I'v used that militec 1 and it really works well. when it gets hot it works even better. you should notice cleaning your gun will be a lot quicker after using it.

Also, dude, I hope you don't take offense to this.
But you are putting that brush in your barrel the wrong way.
You should never insert anything into the muzzle end of your gun, because you might nick the crown of the barrel and ruin your accuracy.
You always want to push patches or brushes down your barrel in the same direction the bullet goes.

Not to my revolvers.
I use one of the Otis kits with the flexible pull through rod.
Works great.
Still though, wouldn't want to do anything that could potentially mess up that pretty new Springfield, haha.

i know that i dont use steel brushes. ever

Miltec works great.
I also like to use High Temp Lithium Wheel Bearing grease to lube my GLOCK and my AK.
It's like $4 for a tub of it, and a tub is more than a lifetime supply. Trust me, lol.
Might be something worth looking into.

BuyMoreFirearms 2 years ago
Yep, automotive supply like Pep Boys or even Walmart automotive section.
I use Coastal Uniplex, but only because that's what I found in the garage.
Any high temp wheel bearing grease would do.
Works good too, doesn't burn off like oil does when the gun gets hot.

I always have heard that the right way of cleaning the barrel is from the rear to the front, the same direction the bullet travels.

good job! is miltec-1 only available from their website?
what is the allure of the 1911?
glampire13 & I are gonna go to the range tonight, afterward I need to take a look at some.
love the vids, always look forward to 'em!

jerko666, what is the allure of the 1911?
the 1911 is like the vagina of handguns.
in pete's case it's more like the cheeseburger of handguns.
BuyMoreFirearms 2 years ago
i can dig that. i'm just getting into firearms and have limited experience, so you can see where i'm coming from. i like both!

as with any oil, you will have to clean/reapply every so often. You can't oil the barrel and leave it for 20 years and not expect it to rust.

true, true
