Fighter pilots do not paint their helmets. American or pilots from any other country. Painted helmets reflect sunlight and therefore they are not allowed to be used in actual missions. You are referring to the helmets in films like top gun but those are only for show. I am just pointing out my opinion on the pilot helmet design provided by the Russian government which I don't like, but that is my personal opinion. I don't think they look like clowns, I just don't like it.
