Thanks for the answers to the questions! I just got my ACT back. I got a Composite score of 18. I'm going to try to bump that up to a 21 or higher, but say I keep that 18; and get a final highschool GPA of around 3.5. Will EKU accept me with open arms? I wish Youtube had some videos of an EKU class in session :( Also, with the Japanese classes, do you learn other things besides JUST the language? I want to learn the geography, culture, history, and whatnot of Japan.
Are there any Japanese Courses taught here? And how many?
Are the dorms messy and old?
I'm kind of a quiet guy. I can't stand stressful, crazy environments. I also can't stand teachers who are stressful and really uptight. I want to take classes with friendly professors and friendly students.
Is this the College for me? Just wondering because you go here.
Also, is it hard to partake in the Study Abroad program? I don't have to have a ridiculously high GPA to do it right?
Actually, there are ( i believe 4) japanese classes taught here; my friend Gary happens to be taking them, in an attempt to become an english teacher in japan. With those four classes, you obtain a certificate showing your proficiency. And it's taught by a japanese women, not an american who knows japanese.
I hear ya, i'm rather quiet too. The campus is rather laid-back ( more so than UK or U of L).
With the professor issue, you'll have to realize that they're not teaching you, they're professing to you. It's all on you; they're not going to help you understand ( well, many will, but it should always be your responsibility).
I don't know anythign about the SA program though. Check EKU's website for that i guess, haha.
I gotta tell ya though, I love it here. EKU has a very scholarly atmosphere, and i'm sure you'd enjoy it here.
Just now realized I forgot to answer the Dorm question.
They're not incredibly messy. They are old, but not too bad. I live in McGregor, and it's pretty great. The most recently renovated hall is Clay, and it looks REALLY nice. don't sweat it about the dorms.
Well, then let me be one of the first to say "Welcome to EKU!".
Palmer is pretty cool. I stayed in Martin this last year, and next year I'm in McGregor. Sorry no shots of Palmer; my laptop was stolen and the footage you see was all I could recover after I got it back.
Don't let that make you think there's an incredible amount of theft. There are maybe 5 reported thefts a week at most, and each of them could have been avoided with some common sense.
I like it, I'll be coming in next fall so it's cool seeing a video like this. If you could possibly include dorms shots in your Spring video that be great.
I will try to. once the weather warms up more people will be out and about, so i'll be able to get better footage. You can't enter the dorms you're not stayign in unless you're a guest of a resident of that hall, so i'll try and get in through friends but no garantee the hall staff will let me record. Martin will easily, but the others aren't as lienient.
thanks. I'm currently a freshman. loving it so far.
Sorry about the lack of angles. My laptop which contained the footage you see (cut down from an hour and a half) was stolen and i stopped the project. once my laptop was recovered, it was too cold for much traffic outside, so i couldn't get many people in a shot. i plan on expanding it in the spring.

No problem. And those scores seem fine, as many get in with lower. Admissions is pretty acceptable here, just make sure you apply soon.
And yes, there is a JPN culture class i believe. I'm not sure whether it's one of the JPN courses offered or not, but there is one i'm pretty sure.

Thanks for the video. Would like to see more than just a few angles. 25 years later, and it still ranks as the greatest 4 years of my life.
