For those who are wondering what are the lyrics for the background vocals in the chorus, I can't find them anywhere: "Hang the sign upon the door, I say don't disturb this groove (All I need is just me and you) Just a way to say that I'm so into you (Just so that it's understood) And the feeling is so real (Just so that you know) Don't disturb this groove."
I don't know why they don't put those lyrics on most of the post. Its significant to the song.
The System's greatest success came in 1987 with the release of the single "Don't Disturb This Groove," from the album of the same name. helped the duo achieve their biggest US Pop hit, "Don't Disturb This Groove". The single reached #1 on the Billboard R&B chart and #4 on the Hot 100. The follow-up single, "Nighttime Lover," was also a top 10 R&B hit, peaking at #7.
You think the last person was screaming, it's a year later from their posting and IM SMILING from ear to ear!!! I was on my way to the gym and it came on the radio. It changed my whole mood and took me back!!! Thank you for posting this song
Middle school memories. Love this song and yes when I heard it I went crazy. Flash backs flashed so brightly in my head followed by a big smile. The good days!!!! Thanks for posting
I was probably hitting puberty when this song came out. I became a man right there and then. I love this song for it's good old fashioned love lyrics painting images of cupid and fountains. Someone said the most sensuous song ever. I TOTALLY AGREE!
this is a hot song NOW, just as it was back THEN!!! i remember when we had our valentine's day dance at eisenhower high scool here in houston, back in '86, and they played this song. the song was already getting air play like crazy, but when the dj played this song, EVERYBODY went crazy!!!!!!!! we were all crying and dancing and sanging. MAN!!!! this takes ole' HYPE NERD waaaayyyy back!!!! (somebody need to do a remake of this, fa'real!)
Wow! I haven't this version in some years. A few satellite radio stations recently played it but i was near the end. Thanx for posting. Old school for life!
it makes me want to cry! i love this song sooo much! it brings back memories! Thank you! nice version! It reminds me of my young days when i had "crushes"!
One of the greatest songs of all time. You can, however, hear hints of "Genie in a Bottle" (Agua) that was to be produced by the white half of this group later on in life.
K104 FM Dallas 1988 I remember this like yesterday especially those long trips.

The break at 4:34 with the electronic keyboard is incredible. Just how the notes separate yet sound together, and with the vocals.
It flows like a river. Brilliant.
Also, I had no idea that Dan Frank of The System co-wrote 'Genie in a Bottle'!

It was rhetorical. I know, and I think they're full of BS for doing it.
