And buying carbon credits also work this way: a wind power company can sell their credits, so if Al buys them, in effect, he is using only wind power for that high bill.

If you look at the worlds CO2 emissions over the past few thousand years, they've gone up. The ice caps are melting. The problem isn't the ice in the water, it is the ice in Greenland, on a continental shelf that will raise the water levels and drown everybody.

Well, I agree on your opinion on Al Gore though I do think "An Inconvenient Truth" is a good documentary and has gained a lot of positive outcome. But, like mr Gore, most of the people are way too lazy to bring the principals to action. And while every one must have heard about the climate change/global warming, not many actually understands it or its consequenses (that we are already seeing people!).

As for the actual climate change issue.. there's very few educated people left in the world who don't believe the theory, and those all seem to centre around a country that has historically had... trouble, keeping the lobby groups in check.
You people have the argument of global warming all mixed up. The argument is not "is the earth as a whole getting warmer?" because we know from our own data that as an average the surface temperature of the Earth has increased by a few degrees in the past decade or so, it is undeniable. The argument is a- what is causing climate change, b- will it continue to increase or is this just a "faze", and c- what can we do about it.
And the answers provided by the skeptics are usually a) a lot that we don't understand, b) it's just a phase, and c) very, very little.
The obvious conclusion is "why bother?" That's why I dislike the argument. I've had arguments like that with myself before and I always won, because I didn't want to make any effort. I understand the whole "culture of fear" argument, but I also think there's a "culture of apathy" behind the skeptics. The middle, illogical road is usually right.
I don't think its a pointless argument, because a lot of the time argument leads to discovery. If argument of theories did not exist, we would be without much of the knowledge we have today. The truth is, both skeptics and firm believers both have valid points, and it is further research and questioning that will bring us to the answers concerning climate change.

Ok now, how can global warming be solved when we can't even get along with eachother on this planet?! I don't see people even giving into stopping global warming when they care about small and more personal things in life. The way I see it is there has to be some crazy event, like a huge tidal wave that whipes out a country or something to that extent for people to get people motivated. Just ask someone out on the street about it and see what you get.

I dont know what you have against Al, but think of these things. It sounds like you are a Republican, and maybe even like the Bush administration. Why dont you find out how high their electric bills are? I am sure George and Dick have some substantial bills of their own. And buying carbon credits also work this way: a wind power company can sell their credits, so if Al buys them, in effect, he is using only wind power for that high bill.

i like your style man!! i used to be a global warming drone until i did some research of my own and found out how gay the whole idea is. One of the things that i found is that Mr. Al Gore does buy carbon offsets...but "conveniently" from a company that he started and is the majority shareholder in. Basically i guess you could say that he wants to live as carbon freely as he wants whilst stifling the rest of us with his theory. maybe he should spent a week or two on a horse and buggy.

Most of the time people have to choose between to evils, and, frankly, temperature rising for a couple of centuries (after which, oil will run out and there wil not be any more emisions) is not as bad as, say, dying because they don't use industry to produce procesed foods...

If you look at the worlds CO2 emissions over the past few thousand years, they've gone up. The ice caps are melting. The problem isn't the ice in the water, it is the ice in Greenland, on a continental shelf that will raise the water levels and drown everybody.

Volcanoes are responsible on a certain level. But keep in mind volcanoes have been erupting for a long, long time. But only since the industrial revolution have greenhouse gases been going up.
The earth is a smart creature and is able to control and balance the levels of things like CO2 in the atmosphere, which we need to have said atmosphere. It uses things like volcanic eruptions and cow farts for this purpose, what it didn't account for us US fucking it up.

I understand your distaste for Al Gore, and if you facts were right (and I'm not saying they aren't) I would be too. But, the fact is that we shouldn't hate Al Gore for it. Yes, he's a hypocritical asshole. But, Global Warming is also a huge threat to society. I think that you should accept that and decide, okay, even if a hypocritical environmentalist isn't very carbon efficient, I can be.

In my own personal opion - based on what I've read and seen - I believe that global warming is an entirely natural process. The evidence is undisputable on that. However I DO believe that mankind is accelerating that process, causing more dramatic changes than gradual.

Well, I agree on your opinion on Al Gore though I do think "An Inconvenient Truth" is a good documentary and has gained a lot of positive outcome. But, like mr Gore, most of the people are way too lazy to bring the principals to action. And while every one must have heard about the climate change/global warming, not many actually understands it or its consequenses (that we are already seeing people!).

You people have the argument of global warming all mixed up. The argument is not "is the earth as a whole getting warmer?" because we know from our own data that as an average the surface temperature of the Earth has increased by a few degrees in the past decade or so, it is undeniable. The argument is a- what is causing climate change, b- will it continue to increase or is this just a "faze", and c- what can we do about it.

The obvious conclusion is "why bother?" That's why I dislike the argument. I've had arguments like that with myself before and I always won, because I didn't want to make any effort. I understand the whole "culture of fear" argument, but I also think there's a "culture of apathy" behind the skeptics. The middle, illogical road is usually right.

I don't think its a pointless argument, because a lot of the time argument leads to discovery. If argument of theories did not exist, we would be without much of the knowledge we have today. The truth is, both skeptics and firm believers both have valid points, and it is further research and questioning that will bring us to the answers concerning climate change.

I thought for a minute there I might have to listen to those people over at the IPCC with their 2300 scientists from 133 countries and four volume report with charts and facts and bibliography and all that useless stuff saying that global climate change is a fact. I think what's really sad about this coming election is that I'm not really into anyone. Last round... I loved John Edwards... and then I was let down when he didn't make it for the democratic candidate.
A few years ago I felt like my opinion mattered, or I could change something. It's all a run away train anymore... and it doesn't seem like this is a generation much like that of the spoken and heard hippy one. How depressing.

After many years of our Congress being an apologist for the Executive Branch, many fellow Americans seem to be equally intolerant of anything perceived as "against" Administration policy. Any casual reader of respected scientific news understands global warming is no hoax at all.

get your facts straight. gore's estate has 20 rooms. it includes his and his wife's home office. after all that, there is still the guest house and the security squad there
The biggest diff, tho, is that people are talking about MONEY that he pays for his security bill. that is because he pays for green energy that costs 50% more from the other side of Tennesee.
I agree global warming is a hoax, but gore isnt a hypocrite. check your facts first.

Global warming is good we save on home heating fuel in the winter time. And if the polar ice caps melt, there wont be a water shortage. What's the big deal? Oh I forgot we're suppose to save the polar bears and whales and kill the babies. Actually I really don't care, it's not my problem for when I'm gone. Time to fire up the bbq and burn some charcoal, and throw the beer cans in the trash and to hell with recycle.

Could some of you right wing reactionary idiots actually do a little research instead of quoting random facts and statistics and claiming that they disprove global warming? It just makes you come off as stupid. If you are going to reach a conclusion before you understand the science, at least know what you're talking about.
