The government "owns" the soldiers... and they will tell you that if you are enlisted.

If Marines are there to protect and back up the protests, it will be on an individual basis.. those men and women that are still active duty will be imprisoned or have their ranks reduced if the government ever called on them to serve to quell the protests, and they refuse. I would love to see the military come out and defend the protests, but they would have to practically defect from the military to do it ... at that point.
