there are models who eat perfectly fine because they really were built with fast metabolisms. However there are some who constantly diet to stay thin. Like gemma ward said when she got into modeling they told her, you have to look anorexic. Don't be anorexic just look it. Thats the in thing right now. People think its all glamorous to be a model but they dont see the side effects like their teeth rotting and hair falling out because of smoking and not eating.

they watch there "figures" sure... but they would not be doing what they do if they weren't naturally skinny. Come on. Its not like they all used to be size 14 and then got gobbled up by the fashion industry and were forced to starve themselves! They're mostly 6 footers for christ sake! Its easier to be skinny/slender if your young, tall and active as are these models. They are beautiful in my oppinion. As beautiful as any sized woman can be. All woman are beautiful.

there are different types of models. Some eat all the time, some eat healthy, and some eat the bare minimum to stay skinny. Those are the models that probably stick to salads and work out all the time and some choose drugs. However thats only some and not all. Just because someone is thin doesn't mean they are anorexic. Models are smart when it comes to looks. Not eating anything won't get you anywhere.

Not EVERY SINGLE model is anorexic or bulimic. I've met a few models before and they say only a few models have eating disorders and the rest of them just eat very healthy and not eat fatty foods and.....yea sure they watch their weight but it has to be a RIGHT weight.........not anorexic.
Most of them are naturally skinny, some people just don't put on weight, this usually comes hand in hand with height. That's why a lot of tall people are considered 'lanky'. If a modle has to have an eating disorder in order to be a model they shouldn't be a model, that's what I say. :)

Probably. I know there may be the very rare individual who is 6 feet tall and weighs 120 pounds, but for most models, to have the unnatural body structure the industry dictates, they have endless ways to abuse themselves to get that. It is just not normal or healthy to have a BMI of 10! But it still goes on in the fashion world and lives are ruined because of it.

There are millions of gorgeous-faced women in the world, but what they do is pick the ones who are tall and very thin in addition to being beautiful. They don't have to "force" thinness per se, but they have a "be thin or get out attitude", they have plenty of models to pick from who are thin and therefore "ready"

Models are not neccessarily anorexic. of course they need to watch out for not gaining weight, than many other people. but only some of them are suffering from eating disorders. a lot of them ain't. and so what if they eat healthy, they're still allowed to eat some unhealthy stuff as well. we all ought to eat healthy anyway, whether you're a model or not! :)
Models are not anorexic, rather instead of consuming bad foods they are pressured to eat only good foods. You could eat one cookie and still have gained weight rather than eating two or three apples.
There is a misconception especially in America, since Americans do not know the difference between anorexic, and just being thin.

I am sick of the stereotype that all models are anorexic! That is simply untrue. I modeled and I ate perfectly healthy, and actually more than a lot of my friends. There are skinny, medium and large body types out there. The naturally thin and tall tend to be chosen for a career in modeling because it is lucrative and fun. They are not girls starving themselves to fit an 'image' they are just thin because of genes, fast metabolisms or the fact that they have the extra 6" of height.

I once knew a girl who was that skinny, but she was also really tall and had a thin frame. When she bent over it looked like her spine was going to pop out. It was pretty gross.

A lot of these girls are extremely sick but they can cover it up with makeup. When someone's body is that deprived it is visible, especially on the face, but when they are painted with makeup before a photo shoot...nobody sees whats really going on :( And some blindly strive to look like them...

It all depends on perception of beauty... if the media was flooded with size 16 (aust size) women in clothes that will flatter them and told that it's the ideal, slimmer women would be trying to put weight on! it's like the whole ideal of tanned skin... in western society people go to solariums, use tanning spray, lotions, oils... bake themselves in the sun even... but in other cultures (eg indian) skin bleachers are the go.

I agree. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ^_^ I don't like tans, I'm a european 1.76 and 65 kilos girl, I have a great hourglass shape, and I love pale skin. I'm not saying tans are ugly, but most fake tans are. But if it's a real and moderate tan it looks nice, not something I would do since I think pale i most beautiful. And going out without sunblock, frying in the sun/solarium is very dangerous. You're skin gets burnt, pretty logicaly! XD And you can also get skincancer.
NO ONE is born that super thin/anorexic. Yes it's they're job to be like that. And that is sad and a shame! The bad guys here are the designers/fashion industry. NO CLUE why they want anyone to be that super skinny?! That's not true. For example, I eat a perfectly healthy amount of food these days (sometimes people are surprised by the amount I can eat -- I have a big appetite at times), and my BMI is technically in the 'anorexic' bracket (I'm also 5'10"/178cm). I've always been that way, tall and skinny. Sometimes people ARE naturally just that thin.
The sad thing is, though, even the naturally skinny ones a lot of the time are told to drop 5 pounds in the fashion industry.

@Astreification Yes, as in they are very selective in picking who goes on the runway to represent their works. There are millions of gorgeous-faced women in the world, but what they do is pick the ones who are tall and very thin in addition to being beautiful. They don't have to "force" thinness per se, but they have a "be thin or get out attitude", they have plenty of models to pick from who are thin and therefore "ready"

Models are not neccessarily anorexic. of course they need to watch out for not gaining weight, than many other people. but only some of them are suffering from eating disorders. a lot of them ain't. and so what if they eat healthy, they're still allowed to eat some unhealthy stuff as well. we all ought to eat healthy anyway, whether you're a model or not! :)

Models are not anorexic, rather instead of consuming bad foods they are pressured to eat only good foods. You could eat one cookie and still have gained weight rather than eating two or three apples.
There is a misconception especially in America, since Americans do not know the difference between anorexic, and just being thin.

I am sick of the stereotype that all models are anorexic! That is simply untrue. I modeled and I ate perfectly healthy, and actually more than a lot of my friends. There are skinny, medium and large body types out there. The naturally thin and tall tend to be chosen for a career in modeling because it is lucrative and fun. They are not girls starving themselves to fit an 'image' they are just thin because of genes, fast metabolisms or the fact that they have the extra 6" of height.

I don't find skinny girls more attractive than fat girls. In Fact slightly overweight is far sexier than slightly under.
If models are to be any particular size it should be between a bmi of 18.5 and 25 !

I once knew a girl who was that skinny, but she was also really tall and had a thin frame. When she bent over it looked like her spine was going to pop out. It was pretty gross.
I don't remember her being anorexic, but it's possible. I think forluch she'd have a bag of potato chips.

A lot of these girls are extremely sick but they can cover it up with makeup. When someone's body is that deprived it is visible, especially on the face, but when they are painted with makeup before a photo shoot...nobody sees whats really going on :( And some blindly strive to look like them...

It all depends on perception of beauty... if the media was flooded with size 16 (aust size) women in clothes that will flatter them and told that it's the ideal, slimmer women would be trying to put weight on! it's like the whole ideal of tanned skin... in western society people go to solariums, use tanning spray, lotions, oils... bake themselves in the sun even... but in other cultures (eg indian) skin bleachers are the go.

I agree. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ^_^ I don't like tans, I'm a european 1.76 and 65 kilos girl, I have a great hourglass shape, and I love pale skin. I'm not saying tans are ugly, but most fake tans are. But if it's a real and moderate tan it looks nice, not something I would do since I think pale i most beautiful. And going out without sunblock, frying in the sun/solarium is very dangerous. You're skin gets burnt, pretty logicaly! XD And you can also get skincancer.

NO ONE is born that super thin/anorexic. Yes it's they're job to be like that. And that is sad and a shame! The bad guys here are the designers/fashion industry. NO CLUE why they want anyone to be that super skinny?! They're ruining and also killing, not only they're models but other young girls who thinks that they're supposed to look like that to be beautiful. I know you can be born slim and have it hard to put on weight *I am like that*. But slim is not the same as super skinny/anorexic.

That's not true. For example, I eat a perfectly healthy amount of food these days (sometimes people are surprised by the amount I can eat -- I have a big appetite at times), and my BMI is technically in the 'anorexic' bracket (I'm also 5'10"/178cm). I've always been that way, tall and skinny. Sometimes people ARE naturally just that thin.
The sad thing is, though, even the naturally skinny ones a lot of the time are told to drop 5 pounds in the fashion industry.
