I'd love to. The Marshall to Los Angeles trip was sponsored by a so-called documentary producer. If I could get someone to sponsor the Saskatoon trip, I'd do it in a New York second! Yep, yep, I'd love to make that trip!
My moms friend has a house out in Palm Springs and we are going there in April for Spring Break so we are going to be there and in Los Angeles a lot!!! We are going to take a plane so I don't have to go via train.
As several mentioned... your video is a great view of the mountains about 15 to 20 miles north east of Palm Springs. The reason Palm Springs is there is because it's below Mt. San Jacinto and gets tons of water from melting snow during the spring. It's a natural oasis the Native Americans have enjoyed for hundreds of years. The cities of Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert are truly spectacular because they have unlimited water. Your film shows the barren part of the valley floor.
Because it's pretty, warm, sunny, good shopping, and dining. Although this video does not show the actual "palm springs" this is just a shot of the outlying desert areas.
The Agua Caliente tribe were first here, followed by the white settlers, of whom many came here for health reasons. Dry heat, low humidity. I live here because I LOVE it (Chicago native)and summers...well that's why we have pools!
Really? Cause they have the dead of summer in July and August like some places have the dead of winter. After that its beautiful weather 90% of the time...but thats ok you can keep thinking its sooo hot! By the way marquis, where your camera is pointed is Snow Creek not Palm Springs...PS is the big city next to the mountain further to the east of your video. Good video though, hope your doc worked out, sounded interesting.
hummmm. palm springs i really dont hear much about. love the song know one whowns what it like to be the sad man,to be the bad man. im starting to really wonder the truth behind palm springs now. everybody makes it out to be glamerious from what they tell me. try to take it easy. gregg
Why go back on the streets, when you've got your wonderful family? Unless it's the restless nerve, that I can understand. And the Kindle might be too flimsy/fragile to survive street life for long.
The only good thing about Palm Springs is the mountain above it: Mt. San Jacinto!!! I've climbed it several times... but always from the other side... some friends have taken the tram up and then hiked the rest of the way up to the summit that way.
What are they hiding out there? I ean, why build a community way out in the desert away from everybody else? I suspect the place is populated by postal fraud fugitives.
Yeah on the main strip. I was in the Marines back in the late 90s, I was stationed at 29 palms, about a half an hour down the road. I have alot of precious drunken memories of Palm Springs.
You can go from Mineola, TX to Palm Springs, CA on an Amtrak? Who knew?
AlphaGeminorium 10 months ago
@AlphaGeminorium
Yes you can on the Eagle!!
marquisdejolie 10 months ago
@marquisdejolie I mentioned that because my grandparents used to live in Mineola for about 60 years and I have a place in PS.

Local here, this is actually only about 5-7 outside Palm Springs on HWY 111 right off the 10 freeway.
Palm Springs is the only city in the desert that has water flowing down the mountains. Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert DO NOT.
localdesertrat 3 years ago
I was groggy by this time, some 50 hours on the train.

I LOVE Palm Springs!

Why?

Because it's pretty, warm, sunny, good shopping, and dining. Although this video does not show the actual "palm springs" this is just a shot of the outlying desert areas.
LunasAzules 4 years ago
Sadly, the train doesn't go through the nicer parts of ANY town.
marquisdejolie 4 years ago
Yeah I noticed that. You should check out the actual town of Palm Springs it's nice. Cute little shops great dining, resorts, shops.
LunasAzules 4 years ago
I've driven through it, but I had to speed up through the downtown part to make it all the way up that steep 13% incline just outside town!

Those 13 degree inclines of the freeway overheated my old cars summer or winter.

Palm Springs was there LONG before the Casinos! BEAUTIFUL place in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. Pure HELL in the summer though. :-)
GreatGig1 4 years ago
Doesn't the summer run from January 3rd to November 29th though?
marquisdejolie 4 years ago
hahaha No, about June to September, with August making Hell seem like a nice cool place to visit...LOL

Palm Springs makes me think of Generation X by Douglas Coupland. I gotta reread it again.

If I get a Kindle for Christmas, I'll download that book.

marquisdejolie 4 years ago
That gadget is stratosphere-way overpriced. If you haven't read the book before, I guess you'll enjoy it. One of my all-time favorites.
chevkoch 4 years ago
Well, I plan to be back out on the street in a year or so and it'll come in handy while I'm pushing my shopping cart through Inglewood.

I <3 Palm Springs! It is the only place (besides Hawaii of course!) where I can swim in a swimming pool in November or December during the day!! LOL!
katalina2007 4 years ago
It was too hot outside the one time in December when I tried to swim there.
marquisdejolie 4 years ago
LOL!! Yup! That is PS for you! I love how MAJESTIC those mountains are! It just SEEMS very spiritual--outside of those Indian casinos, of course :P
katalina2007 4 years ago
They do. I used to love to hike the Rockies near Holy Cross Mountain. You feel closer to the earth then.

Yeah on the main strip. I was in the Marines back in the late 90s, I was stationed at 29 palms, about a half an hour down the road. I have alot of precious drunken memories of Palm Springs.

marquisdejolie 4 years ago
Yeah I forgot about 29 Palms too, thats a real shithole.
