  • holy fuck

  • new zealanders are far from being a player in sealife depletion..fish is a very small part of our diet as a country compared to asian and middle east, southeast asia, south america, alaska, canada and manymany other countrys, why do you think many of those countrys are poaching our seas....wake up. now if we take the od bull(blue fin) from the sea keep this comment in your head...

  • @avau77 That's the old last-tree-on-the-island argument. It may be only one fish that's caught here, but it's still part of the problem: the unsustainable overfishing of this species. That's one less bluefish tuna in the ocean, one less breeding adult, one less link in the foodchain. The fact that industrial fishers are much worse offenders doesn't excuse irresponsible attitudes to New Zealand's oceans and their wildlife.

  • @demonliberal lol..how the heck do you come up with comparing easter island to what i posted has lost me! but if other countrys stayed out of our waters (nz) we would have far more than we could harvest!! even if we were twice as big!! we in new zealand practise sustaining our sea life, it is our culture todo so!

  • I see a whale not a tuna...

  • Our oceans are dying, and you guys are cheering.... your grand children will be ashamed that catching a endangered species was your sport. This video is another nail in New Zealands environmental future.

  • Why you guys always kill it? Just putt it back in the sea!

  • good

  • That year about 40 where caught from this boat only 5 were killed the rest were tagged. 10 of them were tagged with satellite tracking tags.

the results are on the web site - tag a giant.

  • how much does this fish cost? around 4000K ?

  • @drumstokjes Because it is big enough and legal enough to eat. Have you ever heard of SUSHI? Most anglers catch and release. Some deserve a meal. That was enough food for 60 people. About $30,000 dollars worth of prime sashimi. Anglers like this don't decimate the supply. The commercial fishermen do.

  • whoa that is some fish!

  • that would be alot good sushi :D

  • Wow Nice Fish!

Yours Arms Must Have Been Killing After That

  • congratulations on the fish, and im sorry for all the negative comments you got from all the wankers on youtube. The fish was not wasted, its not like it was killed to be mounted or anything.

  • no kidding donkiemon...no joke

  • Google this headline, "Premium tuna fetches $100,000 in Tokyo auction"

I am sure it's an exception but $50,000 is a reasonable price for for most tuna that size in Tokyo. I am not gonna bring my price down any lower. Take it or leave it LOL

  • In Japan a fish like that will fetch $100,000

  • we exported one 334kg in ex condition for far less. wish u were right.

this fish looks a third of the size im calling bullshit on the weight. 120- 130kg tops, gills and guts.

  • omg huge fish would of loved to of cleaned that fish would of had a field day with it its bones inside has to be well over a inch thick

  • go fuck a sheep fish

  • that is a lot of sushi

  • hey blando3, you comments are true but there probalby better of directed at the true source of the problem which is illegel fishing. these guys might catch 4 fish in a year if there lucky, and even then as you heard in the clip a lot just get a tag and then are released. stop buyin tuna in your sushi if you wanna make a diffrence mate

  • good job nice fish, that guy who was grabbing the leader was lucky he didn't lose a finger when the fish ran time for Sashimi

  • i can hear the japs now... oooohhh danielson you sell... we buy for 50,000 dolla

  • Good on 'ya for eatin'it!! Was the flesh any different than that of a smaller tuna?

  • Holy Crap

That Is A Fish Worthy Of Being Called A Monstrosity.

  • Most/if not all, charter captains claim and keep fish like this caught by people and sell it for BIG money.

  • this one was eaten

  • loool u wasted ur monies!

  • nice

  • Top fush mate...lund us fufty sunts for a bus fare eh bro

  • 248 kg = 629 pounds.

    You lose.

  • dam, must've made over 30 grand for that one.

  • Dinner Is served!! Freaking Sweet

  • I have just finished a short film about the Portugese Tuna Industry - their version of the Matanza was the Almadrava (a net trap). The film shows the original footage of the fish (15 foot) huge compared to this but now the tuna industry has died in Tavira. Click on my ID now or type "Giant Tuna Run - Tavira Portugal"

  • but its thrue ...worst of the worst is

Japaneese: Exceed quotas by 3-4 times for tuna fishing( bluefin tuna), they are killing a lot of whale for sushi( they say its for ``scientific research``)

Chineese: Kill around 100 million of shark every year for what?? Shark fin soup...

  • lmao if ur impressed by this.....? i reckon if ur not ur a flippin idiot :)) wicked stuff man....lucky buggers.

  • Sorry for my bad english, im learning. Its my first time in new zealand, and im in christchurch. Where can i go to fish? Is there some place close to here? thanks for the attention!

  • last blue fin auctioned in japan went for somehwere arround to 200 thousand dollars... thats some tasty bitch tuna

  • sad but, we still eat

  • wicked video great catch what coast is that off

  • West coast of the south Island (greymouth)

  • if your impressed by this, go watch the national geographic clip on blue fin tuna, a group of italians hand fish thousands of em.

  • It depends on the quality of the fish.

  • Tuna DOES NOT give you B.O. but if you have eaten it then you know it does smell.

  • what would this fish sell for? I believe its worth 10K $ ? anyone?

  • fuk off he ate it it woulda tasted like shit

  • wow lol

  • Most tuna this size will be close to dead after a fight like this.

They fight untill they are fucked.

Often they will have a heart attack at the boat. Something about the exertion followed by the drop in oxygen intake due to no water flowing through the gills. This fish would probably have died anyway.

  • Persona's don't round up school's of any fuk'n tuna they can get thier sights on? LOL open your eyes. Congrat's on a nice fish!!

  • coomercial fisherman dont take many tuna at all they are normally a bycatch when fishing for hoki

  • Recreational guys taking one fish (if they're lucky) is not the problem, it's the commercial guys killing 100/1000's at a time that will make these great fish extinct. Giant Bluefin Tuna are like the Lion of the ocean, yet goverments let them be slaughtered by huge numbers. They simply cannot repopulate quick ebnough to regenerate the huge loss...

  • I don't see the big deal with keeping this fish. I seriously doubt that the fish will be "unseen" in ten years. Big Ocean, lots of fish... lol. I fish catch and release 95% percent of the time as well but I definitely think that he was entitled to keep that fish...

  • Bullshit. A fisherman would have eaten it. being he earned it.

  • god danm

  • that fish is about 14 years old and they snuffed it out in probably 2 hours. Two words: CATCH & RELEASE.

  • An easy way to find out how old it is would be to cut its head off and count the rings.

  • Bullshit. He earned it

  • Yeah right, HE ate it.

  • you sir, are an idiot. Most tuna don't EVER come close to living to 14 years. Do some research before you post garbage like this.

  • @scoldymcscold Actually, "Sir", the average reliable lifespan of the GBFT is 20 years and the low and high range is 15-30 years.

This fish however I do not believe is 14 years old.

They grow much faster than that once they put a bit of weight on them and can really begin pounding down the chow.

Great to hear you folks ate it Captain!

I think sharing a catch like that among friends and your community is far more worthy of a big fish's taking.

We now only keep what we can eat and sell none as well

  • you can get 70 dollars a pound for tuna. that fish is worth a lot!

  • There are entire areas of ocean (especially off of Western Africa, because of selling the fishing rights to foreign RAPERS) that are entirely devoid of large pelagic species. This fish will be unheard of in 10 years.

  • amizing cath big sushi jeje

  • thats a big fish....yea....

  • thats the biggest tuna ive ever seen

  • Unbelievable catch!!! Small, my @ss!

  • holyy shit..that dwarfes my 15kg one lmao

  • Sashimi and fillet! Yum Yum Nice catch.

  • I'm no vegetarian or bleeding heart liberl but it's always a little sad to see the big boys go, in 10-15 years there will be too many mouths to feed.

  • wow not rly a 1000lb tuna will get u $25,000

  • incredible fish, well done!

  • ohh my goodd :)

  • how much would you get for one of those

  • This one is a not a baby, but not even close to full grown. Full grown ones are over 600 kgs. The reason they do not get that big is because they are worth so much, and are being way overfished and cannot repopulate. To directly answer your question, bluefin, sell for upwards of 70-95 US dollars a pound.

  • OMG thats big tuna,it can cost around 80,000 dollars or more in japan.Japs are craxy tuna sashimi eaters.
