TRON 2.0 - KILLER APP Mod Windows XP/Vista/7 Install Guide

hey. im running windows 7, 64 bit. ive installed the game and the patch, but not the killer app mod. when i click play and then choose the video quality, the screen flashes, i get a notification saying that the windows 7 colour scheme has been changed, and then nothing happens. the game isnt open, i cant hear any music or anything. when i looked in the resolutions i noticed that they were all x32? so is that why i cant play the game?

@rorenn63 Sounds like the game is crashing at startup. The visual theme changing is typically a sign of that. Did you try the Unofficial Patch, rather than the Official one? Also, do you know what video card/chip you have? Windows Control Panel > Device Manager > Display adapters. If you can play other recent 3-D FPS games you should be able to play Tron 2.0.

For those who have been asking, yes Tron 2.0 and the Killer App Mod work on XP. Both the game and mod should work on 98/Me/2000/XP/Vista/7.

I didn't mention XP in the video because it doesn't need extra preparation to get the game and mod working, like you need to do on Vista and 7. The default user account settings in XP give you administrator privileges.

So it's Install Tron 2.0 > Patch > Run game once > Install Mod on XP, skipping the Admin privileges part necessary on Vista and 7.

@2cvo 1) It allows you to use more custom user-made multiplayer maps and 2) it removes the copy protection, so it acts like a No-CD patch as well.

Hmm, i have problems with it.

After installing the unofficial patch my screen will be black when i start the game.

I can hear sound and i hear also that the game starts when i load with F9.

Maybe it's because i have installed the german version of the game.

So i unistalled the unofficial patch and installed the official one.

Killermod works, but now the 'all permission' feature don't works.

Does anybody know how i can get this working?

@HaasiAustria The Unofficial patch works with the German (or any) version of the game. Not sure why you got a black screen.

If you patch the game after the mod is installed, it will break features like the permissions cheat.

You might want to uninstall the mod, then install it again. If you run into any problems, visit the troubleshooting guide mentioned in the description of this video.

thx for responding but one more thing i downloaded the mirror 1 like in the vid but it keeps asking me to choose a program to open it with. Should i download mirror 2 update? Also should i do the same for the actual mod too?

@Jaynitro111 Both mirror 1 and mirror 2 are the same file. You only need to download from one of them. There are two links to every file, just in case one of them doesn't work at the time you try to download. And you don't want to open a file. You want to save it. The browser should give you an option for saving. You could also click the right mouse button on a link and choose "Save as", then save it to your Desktop so you can find it easily later.

How did u make the update into a short cut?

@Jaynitro111 After you click on a link to download one of the files in your web browser, just "Save" the file to your Desktop when the window pops up and lets you choose where to save. That's the easiest way to find the file after it's finished downloading.

Ugh. When I try to extract anything from the .zip file, it gets to 100% and then gives me an error sound but doesn't display an error message.

@TMEntertainmentInc Try downloading the mod again. If you get an error when you open or extract the .zip file, that means it didn't download properly.

I'm getting this message that says 'error copying chsell.dll'. I checked the Tron 2.0 Unofficial Faq and I'm lost. I need help.

@TheMCAdo After installing the game: did you install the Unofficial Patch first, before doing anything else? Did you install Tron 2.0 custom maps? Too many custom map packs causes problems. You can get REZ Handler to help with that.

Other than that, I need more details about what you did before I can help any further.

@redrain85 Well I just installed the game, then the Unofficial Patch. After that I installed the Killer App Mod. I installed the REZ Handler after I got that error message, but I'm confused on how to use it. I didn't install custom maps, either.

@TheMCAdo If you ran REZ Handler and it didn't say anything about going over a limit, that's a good sign. You might want to try running the KA Mod Manager and using that to start the game. You could also try deleting the file launchcmds.txt in the Tron 2.0 folder as a last resort, and see what happens. (The Tron 2.0 launcher will recreate that file.)

@redrain85 I can run the game the game through the regular Tron 2.0 Launcher, it's just that my problem is that I can't run it through the mod manager.

@TheMCAdo So it all works okay with the regular launcher? What happens when you use the Mod Manager? Error message in the program? Or after you click Play/Quit? The Mod Manager allows you to change some settings, but it's not essential to the mod experience. (Of course, it would be great if it worked as it should.)

can anybody help me? after installing the mod, is still can only choose between the custom resolutions (1600x1200 e.g.)... i did it step by step just like in the tutorial

@Lennyfred Don't use the Options menu in the game to set the resolution. If you run the Mod Manager it will reset the resolution the game will use, to whatever you chose during the install.

A bit off-topic, but does anyone know if tron 2.0 works with ATI's Radeon HD4350? I get the Hardware TnL error message and for my life, I cannot determine if this particular video card has it. :(

@mferrusca The Radeon 4350 is a recent card and it features TnL, so the game should work without issue. I would check to see if your ATI Catalyst driver is installed properly in the Windows device manager.

You should also try running DXDiag. Start > Run > type "dxdiag" (without quotes) and hit Enter. Click the Display tab, and it will tell you if there is anything wrong with the way your video card is set up.

@redrain85 : thank you SO VERY much redrain85. i read somwhere that TnL evolved into pixel shading, so it should work. now that you mention it, the dxdiag runs incredibly fast, dunno if that has something to do with it, but apparently everything works well. i am using catalyst 10, but i will try with an older version, just to check. thanx once again, redrain! :) you've given me hope.

@mferrusca: YES! the unofficial patch did it! good thing i tried that one too. i don't need to emulate anythying with the 3DA. it loads perfectly. THANX!!!!

@mferrusca Yeah, there was definitely no need to use 3D-Analyze with that card. But I actually find it odd that it was the Unofficial Patch that made the difference.

Still, the Unofficial Patch is better than the Official one in many ways, which is why I always recommend it. Installing the Killer App Mod after the Unofficial patch improves the game further, and allows you to change the language from English if you need to.

Everytime i get to the part at 1:20 it stops and says setup cannot create the following directory??

@garra1300 If the patch refuses to install, it means something went wrong with the installation of the game. I'd try installing Tron 2.0 again.

If anyone is having problems installing the mod, try doing it in Windows Safe Mode.

You can get into Safe Mode by restarting the computer, waiting until the BIOS screen appears, and then pressing the F8 key before the Windows logo appears. Then select Safe Mode from the menu.

After installing the mod in Safe Mode, restart the computer and allow Windows to boot normally again.

this app is trully a treasure indeed , the best add ons i ever seen in any game trully a masterpiece im looking forward to the next installment especially user error 3 i played it and i have to say it is indeed like a fine wine to a nice gourmet dinner of the highest class, trully a great cliffhanger at the end i say thank you tron sector meat sack ldso and amny others who worked so hard on these wonderful apps you rock.
