  • ARS was made up of some of the former members of the Classics IV and that's why they did such a good remake of this song.

  • Excellent !

  • great song

  • great stuff

  • ARS ranks right up there with Skynyrd. Southern rock at it's best. This is pure brilliance.

  • they played an earlier version of this on tour when they were first starting out

in the 1974 time frame - I did several of their concerts sound reenforcement.......

those were great concerts ....spooky gals, and recreational pharma was in the air.

  • Four members of ARS were also members of the Classics IV....

  • @writerguy10 i know this and both versions of the song is great

  • @M16223cal Absolutely right!

  • Paul Goddards beautiful Bass sound!! thanks for the post !

  • I used to work at a packing house in a small town in the middle of nowhere. The local bar had karioke and I got drunk and sang this tune.

It freaked out the whole town because I can sing in tune, which was something they'd never witnessed before. The rest of the night, the skanky local bar waitresses were finding reasons to act like, "gee it's crowded in here" to bump their asses into me.

I was the envy of the packing house for the next week of 12 hour shifts.

  • @InsertName125 nice to be recognized for your talents eh? :)

  • @rennaissancebiker One thing about it was that some of the people telling me I sang like a god, REALLY HATED me. When someone who hates your guts gives you a begrudging compliment, at least you can be sure they actually mean it. The irony is that I'm not a very good singer, but I have a great sense of pitch and can sing very well in tune (professional musician - now anyway). That's enough to impress people who don't really pay attention.

  • @InsertName125 true.... good for you!

  • I love this song and band......but after vocals are done with, singer should leave the stage instead of floating around like a fly in the way.But they "have to be seen"......

  • Did Dennis Yost follow the others into ARS in the early days? Ronnie Hammonds was the singer, if I remember correctly, most of their career.

  • Dennis Yost and the Classics IV began as a Jacksonville cover band consisting of guitarists Buddy Buie, J.R. Cobb, Walter Eaton, keyboardist Joe Wilson, and singer Dennis Yost (Buie (as producer) and Cobb would form The Atlanta Rhythm Section with Candymen drummer Robert Nix, also from Jacksonville, and keyboardist Dean Daughtry in 1974). So basically they covered their own song.

  • AWESOME guitar lead!!! Sooooooo much better than the original version. Although most people dont know the singer in this band is also the singer of the original... Dennis Yost

  • @hotlicker45 u must b an oldtimer like me huh

  • @hotlicker45 this is ronnie hammond singing in this video. yost was in classics iv, and hammond was in a r s

  • It was ahead of it's time. It sounds more like 1975, rather than 68 when it came out.

  • @seraphima91 depends on whether you're ludded out on 714's, but you may be right

  • @seraphima91 This is a remake from 1979. The original was from the '60s and sounds different.

  • @seraphima91 Click on "Classics IV - Spooky" if you want to hear the original.

  • @seraphima91 Actually this is 'the remake that came out in late 70's. The original came out in '68 and was sung by the Classics IV.

  • @seraphima91 You mean 1966, Mike Sharpe recorded instrumental of this song.

  • Great music and great musician, no color lines...just great talent.

  • Comment removed

  • my ex says this song reminds me of him....???

  • nice less paul

  • Old School vids are awesome. Michael Cry approves. vast difference from music now. Cool that they are still playing too.

  • One of the best Guitar Solos ,Keys , Just all around . Great Song . Thanx 4 Posting

  • I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the original to this song. done by the Classics IV

  • Why is everybody always picking on me?

  • 12 farts got spooked!

  • I used to watch this on "Video Concert Hall" back in the day. With all due respect, these cats didn't have the looks for MTV. It doesn't matter to me. The musicians in this band are outstanding.

  • i like the occassional SPOOKY CHIC.....AHAAAA

  • @Super70duster They're all spooky, my friend...

  • 12 People don't like spooky girls.

  • @CocacolaCowboy1919 -WOW -your idea that people don't like Spooky Girls is beyond rational belief!!

Spooky Girls are hot!! they are mysterious and have nice perky bodies, and are hard to figure out! what twisted

thought processes led you to such monumental delusion? you shouldn't trust your own mind when it gives you

any opinions about what People like or don't like. you should be very suspicious of yourself. Spooky huh?

  • @ddarkshark Are you insane? Did you actually read what I said? I said 12 people don't like Spooky Girls, referring to the 12 dislikes. I prefer spooky girls. You really should take your medicine.

  • @CocacolaCowboy1919 If you want to see one great Spooky girl (and a great arrangement) check out Harcsa Veronika's video

  • @TheSoundsage I checked her out. She isn't spooky at all. But I like the wiggle she does ;)

  • @CocacolaCowboy1919 Either way you lose, because saying (the number of dislikes) followed by some other shit is almost always gay.

  • @thedman696969 Um...do you feel better now? Glad you got that out huh?

  • @CocacolaCowboy1919 I know this sounds cliche, but it really doesnt get better than this...............................!

  • always liked this version the best

  • great tune!

  • its late October once again i gotta feeling copious amounts of marijuana is goin to get toked to this tune in my sanctuary

  • @able506 I want an invite bro!!!

  • This is good music. You will never hear something this great from today's so called musicians.

  • RIP, Ronnie Hammond.

  • What in the world is wrong with the eleven (smile)?

  • Good Job On VID & Sound !!!

  • these guys had a great groove

  • sexy-smooooth-guitar rocks. love it

  • incredible

  • Who is this fatty in the group...

  • @Tonyr00 Which one???? Looks like daze about tre of dem!!!!

  • @Tonyr00 He is a fatty bassist.

  • @jassbo But he could make a Fender P Bass or a 4001 Ric sound awsome!!!!

  • Doeas anyone remember a late-night video program, two years before MTV premiered, so this was 1979-80, and they would often show this video?

  • Damn it . I'm checkin out some of my old favs on youtube today only to find out theyre dead.Andrew Gold and Ronnie Hammond. I Remember seeing ARS at ChicagoFest in 1980.I just recently bought Partly Plugged and think its Great.Champagne Jam is Classic...Oh well I'm not gonna let it bother me tonight,,people keep dying and I see no end in sight.......

  • GENIUS guitar solo!!! Swaeett!!

  • love this song but this sounds like the studio recording overdubbed onto a live video.

  • @Kolef88 I think it is because it's a music video. It's the studio version of the song, nothing wrong with that, but a live concert video to me, should have live concert music.

  • i dont know why but i only feel right listen to this tune smoke a doober on september and october nights

  • Dark and rainy nights.

    Windows open.

    Cocktail in hand.

    Girl's head on my shoulder.

    This song playing.

    I want for nothing else....

  • I love ARS. Such great musicians. What an amazing voice. I miss this kind of music. When the music mattered not the glam and fakeness that the music industry is today.

  • Right on baby!

  • JR COBB,BUDDY BOUIE,PAUL GOTTERD.THEY WERE THE BACKBONE OF ARS

  • Goodbye Ronnie Hammond. You had a one of kind voice. R.I.P.

  • luv is kinda crazy with a spooky kind of girl like u....

  • I love this version!! But I also like the Classic IV version also!!

  • @prettyinpink2500 I don't know if you know this, but the Atlanta Rhythm Section was begun by ex-members of the Classics IV. So, in a way, they were "covering" their own song.

  • Ronnie was definately one of the greats. very sorry to hear of his passing. Fred Mcneill was a great guitarist, hope the spelling is right. ARS is my second favorite group of all time. Rip Ronnie, you are missed.

  • Oh yeah ARS really rocks this tune!!

  • Beautiful version of a classic song.

  • im playing this in marching band lol reply if you want me to upload a video of it

  • @Shamaster56 sure! load'er up :)

  • @Shamaster56 I would love to see (and hear) your marching band do this number.

  • @Shamaster56 that would be awesome, let's see video of it. thanks!

  • @Shamaster56 its a shame that your going to be laughed at while playing such a great song

  • Thank you! :) ;)

  • beautifull.............

  • Awesome song and the video sound sync was perfect! How could anyone possibly thumbs down this video?

Oh yeah! "Obvious troll is obvious"

  • Ther no greater peace to know a love one is gone on to heaven

it makes it a little easer for the ones that are left.

  • Wow, Ronnie's voice was as smooth as they come. The tone of Barry's Les Paul still gives me goosebumps on every solo. Amazing musicians all. RIP Ronnie, you are a legendary voice that will live on.

  • This was a excellent album and the words are just wonderful, from old hippie

  • este tema es muy buenisimo!!!!

  • Saw ARS in Providence on the 1979 tour, the lineup was Sweet, ARS, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow with Dio on vocals, and Foghat ! This show kicked ass, every band smoked onstage. There was a pretty big riot downtown after the show and the mayor cancelled concerts there for almost a year. It was a great way to go out though!

  • Aug. 20 I will go see ARS in Dothan,Al.!!! Buddie Buie and the Gang will all Be There!!!!

  • barry bailey is such an amazing player

  • Can anyone tell me the relationship between ARS and Classics IV . I have heard there was some link there . These guys are so good and restrained it makes my teeth hurt .

  • ARS wa sa truly great southern rock band....I was born here in Macon, GA and have lived here all mylife.....this was Ronnie Hammonds' hometown as well....we have had so many great southern rockers, as well as other rock and roll artists, who were either born here or called Macon home....Littlle Richard, Otis Redding and the Allman Bros Band just to name a few....great music history here for such a small town!!

  • @eightiesguy62 I know, hard to believe Macon has a claim to fame.Macon seems at times to want to be a progressive city like Austin Tx but the powers that be want to keep it a Mayberry.

  • @MrJacMac1986 Yea...we have a hard time moving forward very fast...there are too many "old timers" still around that just don't want change.....the same elected officials keep getting elected too and they keep us bogged down....most folks around here are scared to put anyone new in office for fear of the unknown but if you keep electing the same people all you can expect is status quo!

  • Yes. . . RIP to Ronnie. ARShepherd, it's good to hear Ronnie had such a good perspective over his last few years. I know the stepson of someone who played with ARS in the 80s, & the music - along with Ronnie's vocals - STILL blows away anything passing for "rock 'n roll" from the over-hyped, schlockily promoted "pop stars" of modern "lore" (sarcasm intended)!

  • This song is truely magical. Wonderful cover, proves what a great band they are!

  • Wow, what a jam this was.A quick story for you older stereo heads, my wife drug me to Goodwill so she could look for dresses. I walked back to the electronics, and in the middle of the floor sat a set of Acoustic Research AR-303 speakers. Do any of you remember them? I hooked them up to my Kenwood amp and slipped this CD in, and WOW! $1,200.00 speakers for $9.99. My lucky day or what? Anyhoo, what a great band this was. They just don't play like this anymore. Thanks for reading, Peace.

  • Hey SHUT UP and Groove.

  • ARS hit #17 in Billboard, 10-13-79. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! RIP, Ronnie Hammond.

  • I miss the 70's...! todays music just aint got it...

  • @anchorage20 You got that right! Todays music has no soul, no Rock n Roll, very little instrumentation.

  • @anchorage20 this is a cover. it's originally from the 60's by classics four

  • @anchorage20 actually it does and more so. but you are either too old or too ignorant to look past the radio or mtv so your loss

  • great video allways love this band.

  • I love this song so much! Can't get enough of it!!

  • awesome song

  • creepy

  • So old school <3

  • Whast happened to music? I'm 23 and me and my buddies jam to this shit all the time....Lots of j's burnt to ARS....lol

  • I like the original version.

  • This song make s me think about a cutie litlle snow fox from slc, utah...Bear

  • one of the first songs i was old enough to dance to in a "real" disco. Polyester shirts, skin tight bells, and platform shoes! And, even in the guys' restroom, there was a line at the mirror to fix your hair! I even had a shiny black "disco suit." I was flat out groovy!! (MAN! I useta hate hearing old guys do that - and here I go!)

  • Love the guitar work in this version. ARS's songs are great.

  • This band's as tight as a bull's ass

  • Those harmonics get abused in this song.

  • a great tune the type may never be heard again in this day and age love it

  • awesome soloing

  • ARS is made up of key members from the Classics IV...

  • BADD ASS!

  • Hey guys, I changed my calendar today.....to 1975! I was born in 66, so I got to enjoy; 60s, 70, & 80s music. Its a blast!, OR, I should say, its RIGHTEOUS, GROOVY, AND....FAR OUT! PEACE.

  • I think ARS did a lot better version than the Classics 5

  • Great guitar riffs . . . . great vocals . . . . tight, solid music. Compared to this, little remains, which could be construed as real music.

  • Can't be Larry his shirt has sleeves.

  • Yes Paul Godard plays a Rick Bass, always loved that tone. Check out their "Champagne Jam" for good bass licks. Actually listen to any ARS you can find. These guys were studio pickers who built there own in Atlanta GA. They backed early Skynyrd LP's but were originally the "Candymen" who backed Roy Orbison & went on to be The Classics 4 with Dennis Yost, who did this tune first.

  • always loved this version of this song. always liked this band. is woman guitarist still alive? good music like this would be outlawed today as a hate crime by people who want to see all good music gone as a way to make room for the talentless freaks...well that has already happened.

  • larry the cableguy on the keyboard

  • one of the best blues of the 80's ARS..SPOOKY!!!!

  • Although the video clip doesn't show it - being a Rickenbacker player - I could swear

I hear a RIC 6 or 12 string doing some of the rythmn parts during the actual studio recording....Those who know for sure - is (or was) that possible?? A Ric's sound is pretty unmistakable.....

  • @musicandmovieguy55 I know Paul Goddard played a 4001 Mapleglo bass, so its possible they coulda had a few Rickenbackers around.

  • 1979?!! OMG I was just graduating from high school. I remember this like it was yesterday. Awesome stuff.

  • Hes hangin out with Dennis Yost.....r.i.p

  • R.I.P.RONNIE..

  • Sweet!

  • THE BEST VERSION OF SPOOKY. RIP RONNIE HAMMOND

  • RIP Ronnie...

  • Hey brother~Appreciate the comment. He wasn't like that at all. He had two granddaughters and a son. He had everything to live for and loved life, at the current time. It was totally "shock and awe" for all of us. My nother who took Ronnie in for a decade during my childhood where we bonded took it the worst. She is still grieving pretty hard, and so am I but I know he's in a much better place than this troubled world. EE else as in the hollywood movie "Knowing" makes sense. ARS/ArthurRS

  • RIP Ronnie.

    @ARShepherd

  • Great 60' tune

  • I'm surprised nobody comments on how this version of "Spooky" is actually their song from their days as The Classics IV. Something about this song will make it still sound good 100 years from now.

  • Uncle Ronnie was right with God. I know this because I am his nephew and lived with him as a child and have spoken with him many times in the past couple of years at length. He chose to live like a recluse because he didn't believe in handouts and sympathy from anyone. He was a man with a HEART OF GOLD who would literally give you the shirt off his back. He was giving, caring, loving and most importantly, didn't forget where he came from. Ronnie is in paradise now, I'm sure of it. RIP RON

  • @ARShepherd I have known ARS for over 35 years and have all of their Polydoor albums.. I read last nite that he had been depressed for a while ,and I can imagine why, if he felt like I do now about the way our country has changed so much for the worst ,it makes me feel the same way..Sorry for your loss,he left us allot of great music and it and the boys from Doraville will be remembered..

  • @ARShepherd Sure sorry to hear about your loss - I loved the band for many, many years and don't get out much so I didn't know about his death. My hat is off to you, who obviously had a relationship with your uncle that you miss very much.

  • @ARShepherd This song is one of my all time favorites.

    My condolences....RIP RON.

  • @ARShepherd Great tribute to your uncle Ronnie, AR. God bless ya, too, my brother!

  • @DaveWollenberg your uncle is awsome and i'm sorry for your loss god bless is soul

  • i wish i was alive then

  • Lov this band and album. Lots of partying to this song back in the day at UMASS! Go UMASS or should I say ZOO MASS! Ha Ha

  • This is the best song ever!

  • What's up with all the confederate flags in the crowd? dumbasses!

  • @dinah66 here's whats up with the confederate flags--love of the South. jugemental attitudes do not play well in enlightened all inclusive tolerant progressive dipshits now do they?

  • @dinah66 The flags help identify the Racist Pricks in the crowd. They were all out of Dunce hats that day.
