I've been trying this a few times... I just don't quite understand how to get it going... Is there any way you can explain further, or perhaps point me in a place that might have a bit more detail? I do appreciate your time in the video! However I'm a bit of a tard when it comes to plaiting.
Go to my channel and you will find a link to my web site. On the sit at the top you will find a link to TUTORIALS click on that and then click on the BULL WHIP TUTORIAL.
That will take you to a page that shows you how to make a bull whip from start to finish. I also sell a set of 3 dvds from my site that does the same thing.
hello your video is very beautiful. I am Italian but I have always loved the whips do not know where to learn them. you can advise me some video or book or website that explains the basic steps? hello thank you from italy by alessandro
It would have been nice if you kept your head out of the video. I realize you gotta see to do it but ... I'm watching so I can see how you do it. Move the camera. :(
@AL92660 Sorry about that Al, didn't realise my head was in the way until I uploaded the video. Will try to do better next time. As a matter of interest do you have anything you could contribute to the subject?
I made a 100 cm whip from handle to fall using a pair of shoelaces for the thong , a belt folded over twice for the handle, the ring used to hold those handles for those water sports bottles as the keeper, and another shoelace which was used for both the belly and the fall. its a tiny 4 plait whip with a nylon thread cracker.
@bowow0807 Good on you. A photo would be good. If you have one you might send it to my email address which is in my channel. I would be interested to look at it.
@1911fan181 With 8 plait whips the strands are tapered all the way down because I end all my whips in 8 plait. In 12 plait and up to 20 plait there is a bit of both. I drop strands until I reach the final 8 and then taper as I plait. 24 plait and over I achieve the taper by dropping strands.
@char0213 Not really. I think you have to have a certain mind set and a lot of patience. If it starts to be a pain doing something your better off trying your hand at something else.
@trevpbr1402 Go to my web page, address is in my channel and look up the tutorial page. You will find a tutorial there on how to make a bull whip.If after reading that you still want to make a whip I have for sale a set of dvd's that take you through the whole process.
@YOYOTVIPERSKATE Nylon parachute cord is great for plaiting and your strands need to be one and a half times the length of your whip plus I would add a foot just to be safe.
@bernie46 Ok cool um maybe could u make a video on how to like start and actually braid the whip becuz i get confused everytime im braiding it and also i never get the back right so if u cud do tht tht wud be really cool and helpful :D
I just wanted to say that I've been making nylon whips for a little bit over a year now and can say that your videos really helped me with understanding how the process worked. Thank you so very much. Also, at around 1:10 there's a wonderful close-up of your scalp :)
call me stupid but I don't understand how you aligned ther strings when you began...was it 8 straight orange then the 8 black, or one orange one black at a time?
The transitions from one plat to another is key, since this is what can be used to initiate the entire whip platting process - there should be a video just on this technique because just reading about it, without actually seeing the process, is not sufficient for most.
I can and if you want one go to my web site, just google embrand whips and have a look at the whips I have for sale on there. Get in touch with me through my web site emaill and we can go from there. I will send you a message with links.
I've only a few video left to watch, but I'm love your work, and might try my hand at emulating it. Also your in video comment made me think of this quote:
"" Press on: nothing in the world can take the place of perseverance.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. "
The knife you use in the other video looks like a Eskimo skinning knife that they use to go through thick seal fat etc.. Thanks for your reply most you tubers dont even reply, Joseph T (fly2000jtb)
Cool video, what country are you from? I was in Perth and they sounded similar to your way of saying things. Very nice work I must say, Keep posting please.
hey, bernie, i have had practice making whips, but one thing i cant get right is that when i plait the whip, the side that is facing me goes perfect but then you turn the whip the other way (to the back) and there is a horrible mess there. could you tell me how to fix that?
It sounds like your strands are not wide enough or you should use more strands. To cover a handle the sum of your strands has to be about one and a half times the circumference of the handle. An easy way to work out the width of your strands is multiply the diameter by 4.5 and divide that by the number of strands you want to use and it will give you the width you need. If the diameter is 20mm x 4.5 =90mm divided by say 12 gives you gives you strands 7.5mm wide to cover that diameter.
and one more thing, when you do the 16 strand dimond plait, is it natural that the dimon plait only goes well on one side of the whip?, cuz when i do it, one side is good, and the other is like a normal plai.
It should be under one over one the whole way round so as you work the strand the sequence will be u 1, o1,u1 ,o1,u1,o1, u1 and over the middle strand. Try doing it with 4 strands then with eight strands and worki your way up to 16 strands.
This is a very good formula that Bernie is talking about. For those of us stuck with the outdated English measuring system, try this for converting:
For example, handle diameter is .800 thousandths of an inch. Divide .800 by .03936, and this will give you the proper metric diameter. i.e. - .800 divided by .03936 = 20.325203 mm.
Dear Bernie, could you please tell me what do you put inside your whip? and how come at the begining, it has 16 plaits and so it seem really thick in the handle but by the time you keep plaiting 16 plaits together then it become so thin at the end of the whip with the same amount of plaits? i hope that you can understand my terrible english and will answer me. Thanks you so much for your video. Best Regard. Alex.
So u r sayin top strand from the left under two on the right then back over the two strands in front of it, then back to the left?? Seems like that???
From left to under two on the right, loop over another two then back to the left. Thats wat my head is tellin me cause im confused and tryna make this for my car antenna in three colors!
If you go to my web site embrand whips, just google that and it should come up, I can't show the actual link to my site ,it's not allowed by youtube, and click on the insidebullwhip link and it shows in photos how I construct my bull whips
