Congrats to all of the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated for 100 years of sisterhood and service. As ofr the matter of thr color of the doll, my godmothers, two of my aunts, three mentors, and some classmates at FAMU are members of AKA, the doll essentially reflects the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Like it was said in the video, Barbie is was not and usually is not known to be affiliated with anything African-American so for it to portray a woman of color. It is beautiful to me.
I want to go back! :) It was an awesome experience at every turn I had a sister near. Washington DC was in awe a few cabs that I got into the drivers couldn't believe that all these women were members much less college educated (at min.). The Barbie is BIG! Soror Barbara has a business sense that is out of this world. Oh well, I am hopeful that I am blessed to share my next boule with my niece as an aunt and Soror. :)
Unfortunately, you cannot please everyone. There is nothing wrong with the shade of the AKA doll. If she was darker then someone would have had a problem with that. I was there and I had a blast. I love my AKA!!!!
exactly what I said. I feel the doll Mattell made just further feeds into the stereotype that all AKAs are lightskinned with long hair...which they are not.
And thats from a man's point of view.
