LOL well those programmers are probably jealous because they see all these people making money easily with little coding skills. they are like the low paid house builders and the A-marketers are like the high paid real-estate sellers etc . but DON'T FORGET programmers are at a great advantage because they can make things by themselfs so they have low start up cost. most of the people who make millions or billions on the web were programmers facebook, ebay, google, youtube, digg all programmers
I agree with you Lisa. I used to work with programmers most of the time at work. I had to watch my back also which is sad to say. Some programmers tend to think differently than others, but I am thankful for the good programmers out there that do not act "holier than thou."
Programming is fun to do if you know what you want to do. Programming isn't for everybody, I like to build stuff from the ground floor with minimum restriction. Programming is not as hard to learn as you think. People tend to take a prejudice view of things because people have told them false things about programming. As they say, you have to do what works for you, but also you don't have to be a top notch programmer, to be able to program.
meh, techies are techies, i mean i feel that programers who write in c++ and python are perfectionists, thats why they attack non techies, cuz they lack c++ language, and for web designers and web app designers, i feel that they are people who like to express their digital poetry....
I feel like web designers can be compared to musicians. Some people can play by ear, but sometimes you have to learn how to read the music. Personally, I love Wordpress. I like to take a WordPress theme and morph it into something completely unique with the CSS. Why should I bust my butt learning how to code all the fancy stuff when I can use awesome plugins that other people already created? Nobody can do it all.
Exactly devin6687. Let's not lose sight of the ultimate goal, right? And that is to build traffic and make money. So if you can find tools that make life easier in the process why not go for it? And if you are one who can learn all the techy stuff then that's just an added bonus.
Don't listen to these stupid people put you down. I think your doing a wonderful job helping people and I support you. People are going to dislike you because your success. If anything you should laugh at them and keep doing what you do.
Very well put. I am a programmer but I've never spurned anyone for what route they choose to go. I think its all good, its just you have your thing and i have mine. If it works for you great, if not hopefully you can learn something from it and grow.
I think that one thing people need to do is just develop a bit of a thick skin and learn to just say talk to the Hand to all the haters.
I think you make some great videos and say some amazing things. Keep up the great work.
Yes this is very true it is all a matter of time. Programers are paid because people want to save time. Marketing is all about the proper use of time and talent.Programer should be happy that people are making money to pay them. The more you control your backend the better. It makes you less dependant on others to run your business.
Hi Lisa. "WOW!" I can relate. I learned the basics of HTML & CSS. All of my creative energy is invested in visual design. So I use a "Dreamweverisk" program to handle the coding part of webdesign for me. If I have a code problem, I simply research the matter and solve it in know time. Thanks to the vast amount of information on the The Web. I guess some critics would call that a crutch too. There will always be narrow minded, self centered critics. Keep on moving on full steam ahead my sister.
Personally, myself, I've basically learned by bringing up page sources of websites and trying to study and figure out how and what different types of codes work. Basically self taught to the point where I was able to learn to get across what I wanted to on my own website.
Great point, Lisa. I think you are absolutely right about certain people, not programmer per se, as I am a SW engineer myself. At the same time, let me be a devil's advocate a bit here. Poor understanding of inner workings (as you had some basic understanding yourself) can make great technology into JUNKS. Email or spam is the prime example how people have abused the system, and ruins it for everyone else who has a concrete ideas behind it. Just a thought and be careful what you promote.
Isn't that silly that programmers would criticize anyone for using a piece of software? Or for not doing ANY activity that they don't have the talent, desire or ability to do? Dont let them upset you, Lisa. That's why there are CAREER choices. Some people like programming, some design, some marketing. It's a little like saying you shouldn't turn on a light if you don't know how to install the electrical. Or that you shouldn't eat at a restaurant if you're not a chef. Sheesh!
Go Lisa. Your on point. Let the haters hate while your bank accounts get fatter. You make way more then those progammers and that's why there mad at you. Keep doing your thing.
Lisa, *wise woman", your point well taken. One of the first things that I learned in my college business & marketing classes it to know you strengths & weaknesses. You then surround yourself with people who are stong in your weak areas. You don't waste time, effort or money in a area you don't like or need to do. Understand the basics but hire an expert to do the work.
Sounds like sound advise to me. As always spot on. Thanks
Definitely have a point about being open to tools that can help you do stuff with your webpage for those who deal more with marketing rather than programming.
Love the video Lisa! If it wasn't for SBI I wouldn't have created a site! You know how long it took me to figure out that HTML was not short for hotmail, LOL. So I will never program completely from scratch. It's just not my thing.
I have to agree here, I am actually a php programmer (my day job), and have to say that it is necessary to get the basic fundamentals down of web design, but you do not need to learn to code, you can certainly learn to do so or you can just hire someone like myself to take care of it.
While these people are using all their energy trying to convince people how smart they are by doing things the hard way. I prove to myself how Im not so stupid by looking for ways to get things done with a greater degree of efficiency while producing comparative if not better results.
I think the old adage of Work smarter, not harder applies here!
As someone who has the desire to learn coding and web design, I don't see anything wrong with what you're doing. In fact, you have helped more people to believe enough in themselves to have the desire for knowledge and change. I am a fellow marketer and I want to learn web design not only for myself, but to help others. But the main reason is out of sheer desire to learn. You're absolutely right, it's up to the person and what they need. Girl, keep doing you! Ignore the haters!
You are right on it Lisa, I agree, it's more about marketing than about programming. You could have the hottest looking site on the planet but if you can't market it, you still end up broke when the bills come due. Fortunately I am married to a very gifted graphic designer so I don't have to worry about that although I agree it is good to know the basics. Great Video as usual.I consider you my mentor.
I'll put it this way to clarify this issue. As a painter & silk screener I can produce more than $600. worth of art in a 10 hr day. It doesn't pay me to do anything that I can hire done for less than $50. an hr. It wasn't always that way, but because I picked my "thing" & stuck to it I became a $pro at it. Hey, there R enough learning curves out there already to interrupt my day, why should I ever bother learning something some tech can do for $40. hr and get it done 4 me in a day?
If you think about it, most flat screen TV's can act as monitors/browsers. Combine that with wireless internet access and you already have WebTV. I think current technology replaced it.
Don't stop doing what you are doing. You tell the truth and you leave it at that. I look up to you and I want to be where you are at. Thank you for being my mentor.
Seriously, where can I get the information to at least know the basics. I'm not all that keen on computers but I know my way around them a little. And it can hurt to know a little more. On another note, Lisa, you know when someone is doing good, others are going criticize you. They criticize Jesus Christ and you are no different. You supply people with good information about affiliate marketing and you are not selfish about sharing it.
In Judaism, if you have several people, from different sources saying the same thing, and on the same day, this may mean, many times, that the message is coming from above.
Also contemplate, that may be that, personal accomplishment on this stage of your life, may be more important than the 6 figures you may make.
It is also plausible to believe that once you excelled on selling the affiliate accessories, it now time to move on and start producing them. Could be a path.
It is good to at least contain the knowledge of HTML and CSS since those are the to fundamental coding that keep a site together. I wouldn't be put down by the "Tech" people who are ALL about coding.. because it's people like us who keep them in business right? If everyone knew these codes they wouldn't be in business..
Couldn't agree more. Nothing wrong with techies. I admire them 'cause I don't have the patience. I am specifically referring to those who criticize others who don't have or do not want to have their level of expertise.
Right, I find it quite amusing at times because everyone starts off as a beginner right? So why try to put down the ones who are still learning or might not have the time to persue in this path.. I find it quite questioning at times for those types of "Techies"
I know CSS,HTML,C++,JAVA,JAVA SCRIPT and PHP....but I agree that u dont need HTML when u have Dreamweaver or something like that. I only know that u need 2 learn javascript if u want to make 1 of those high-tech animated sites or afcourse pay someone to learn it.. :)

Yes It's absolutely true Miss(i guess) Lisa. You must not feel useless if you can't code a few HTML/CSS lines of code.
But if you feel that knowing how to do it yourself it's very great too. And it's free to learn nowadays :)
Lastly If you are interested in learning HTML/CSS/PHP/JQuery/MooTools My videos are coming soon.

Interesting...
True (boundless) success (online)requires balance.
It took me 1 MBA, & 60% of a Masters in Computer IS to realize what you've illustrated in 12 minutes.
I feel very comfortable criticizing both sides.
Features TELL. Benefits SELL.
Marketers tend to show benefits. Programmers tend to illustrate features.
Programming 'effort' is not a benefit, but a story to tell. Both can be bought.
Keys to online success: SV (social value/credibility), efficiency, scale, & quality.

I started learning with HTML and in recent years CSS along with PSP and the many elements needed to produce a website.
My website is in progress, the css is learned from w3c and all the tricks to coding design are learned online.
And now find myself learning more on marketing all at the age of 62 yrs. of age.
The one thing I have learned over the last 4 yrs., "nobody can do it alone, on their own"..
Thanks for being one of my resourses.
