  • Lord Levene spoke of "an innate sense of responsibility". As a former underwriting Name at Lloyd's, I wish this had applied to me, the provider of capital. In 1986, when I joined, Lloyd's was not the professional place it is today. There was no proper accounting system or audit, although Lloyd's claimed there was, and a huge amount of corruption and fraud had been uncovered. The shortcomings ruined 34,000 Names.
