  • Nice low-cutting..you don' see that step very often..and it's so hard to do!

  • wow! nice Low-cutting..you don't see that very often!!

  • This is a mezmerizingly cool dance... if that makes any sense... ;D lol Thank you for posting!

  • What's the name of the tune?

  • @Marine1Bulldog

"My Love, She's But a Lassie Yet"

  • Nice seeing guys make a stand in highland dancing, wish we saw more guys in highland dance down here in Florida!

  • @myke22779

Haha, it's not like we're exactly crawling with them up here in the north either ;-)

  • yeah, but the only time I have ever seen a male dancer was at GFM games. I did see one here in Orlando once.

  • Well done.

  • Thanks!

  • lol the two girls either side of you dont look very happy. Great job on the wingcuts. You couldnt see them properly:( Good Luck in the future!

  • Quechee was where i had my first comp. ever when i was like 6 years old.

  • That's fun! It's usually a pretty good competition--never much luck with the weather though--always really really hot or raining and nasty.

  • You totally owned the competition.

  • Hehehehe...

  • Sweet as high cuts mate!

  • Thanks!

  • Yes your trousers are mighty long but wowza those were some good hicuts!!! :)

  • Aww thanks... If the crotch had been where it was supposed to be, they would have looked better :-(

  • hehehe i can see that your hat and pants were a bit big! but it looks lovely! and i love the hangmans walk step! i rarely see it in competition anymore! there are getting very uptight about what steps we can use..I LOVE CUTLASS!!! haha but beautiful highcuts, sir :)

  • is that my love is but lassie yet?

  • yes, I believe so

  • Hey, I'm new to highland dance. I've been an Irish dancer for 10 years and I've started highland dance. I've always wanted too. I have a question about the costume. In the sailor's hornpipe, there is a white and navy blue costume. Do the colours have any meanings?

  • @Wishyouwerehere080 no, you can just wear whatever colour you like

  • what is the the step you did 3rd??? i wanna know and nobody is telling me lol. ive just gone up to premier and im doing wingcuts too....grr theyre great! (note the sarcasm) hehe

  • I'm not sure which "number" the step is in the book, but it's called "Low Cutting"... it's quite fun I find, but a lot of people have difficulty with the movement, so only do it if you're really comfortable with it. You get to pretend you're dead though!

  • how many parts is the official Sailors Hornpipe include the intro???

  • Depends on what you mean by parts and what you mean by official. In competition we do either 4,5 or 6 step hornpipes. This vid shows a 4 step hornpipe. So it would be AAABBAABBAA... The first A being the intro. Some pipers use multiple tunes and splice them together for longer hornpipes so it'd be like AAABBAABBCCDD. Does that make sense? Message me if you want an attempt at further explanation.

  • ok, tnx but the normal hornpipe is 4 steps?? and the intro is one whole part of 8 bars??

  • Ok so if a "part" is 8 bars, then a 4-step hornpipe is 9 parts, 5-step is 11 parts and a 6-step hornpipe is 13 parts.

  • ok many tnx, i hope i can play it well now:):)

  • how many years u been dancing?

  • Highland, 5 now I think...

  • wow i've danced longer than u but you're still a much better dancer

  • You have to come to canadian championships in vancouver this summer!!!!

And i very much envy your highcuts. They're so effortless. I've been in premier for three years now and i'm still fighting with them :P

  • Just keep working at them, they come eventually.

  • Wow! Those were AMAZING highcuts.

  • I love your lowcutting step! It's a really hard step, but I want to learn it for this competition season.

  • haha my irish dance teacher would be screaming for more crossover lmao, just cause she's insane

  • Haha when I first started highland (after 4 years of Irish I was feeling the same way). I've gotten over it, but sometimes the two styles kinda bleed on each other in terms of technique.

  • Ack! I just want to pull your pants up!!!

  • Haha so do I! Thankfully the problem has been fixed since then.

  • great job on the hicuts keep up the good work!, do you compete lots?

  • Not as much as I'd like to... I'd say 4-6 competitions per year. My problem is that I do Irish dance as well, so I have to split my competitive time between the two.

  • oh thats cool. Are you going to the victoria championships this year?

  • Victoria, BC?

  • yup thats the one. do you know what the date is i havent heard yet:S

  • Haha nope I'm not and now I don't.

That'd be about a 6hr plane ride for me.

Although I've been to Victoria, BC and it's absolutely gorgeous.

  • oh that would be one harsh airplane ride:S and yes i do agree, victoria is completely gorgeous, i have alot of relatives that live there so its nice to go there, now and then.

  • your highcuts were awesome! :)

  • Why thank you!

  • Was that at a competition? What place did you get?

  • Yep... Quechee Highland Games.

    I got 1st.

  • Ahh, brings back fond memories of my days spent in the Navy and the times we would prance around the poop deck in this fashion.

  • great job I have been dancing since I was 2 and now am 15 how old are you and when did you start? You did a great job.

  • I've been dancing in general since I was like 2.5, I started irish dance when I was about 9, still do that... Picked up Highland when I was 13 I think... Now I'm 17.

  • Ok you are Good, Very good. Do you preform a lot, or just compete. I do both and you could,if you tried, get a permentent gig.

  • Wow, if you don't mind me asking..... how did you do?

  • I won this... as well as the fling, swords and ST... got the trophy, the pre-premier aggregate and the outstanding VT pre-premier trophy... So I was proud of myself lol.

  • Wow! What level are you in?

  • Intermediate... That was my 1st interm. comp.

  • wow! awesome
