hehehe i can see that your hat and pants were a bit big! but it looks lovely! and i love the hangmans walk step! i rarely see it in competition anymore! there are getting very uptight about what steps we can use..I LOVE CUTLASS!!! haha but beautiful highcuts, sir :)
Hey, I'm new to highland dance. I've been an Irish dancer for 10 years and I've started highland dance. I've always wanted too. I have a question about the costume. In the sailor's hornpipe, there is a white and navy blue costume. Do the colours have any meanings?
what is the the step you did 3rd??? i wanna know and nobody is telling me lol. ive just gone up to premier and im doing wingcuts too....grr theyre great! (note the sarcasm) hehe
I'm not sure which "number" the step is in the book, but it's called "Low Cutting"... it's quite fun I find, but a lot of people have difficulty with the movement, so only do it if you're really comfortable with it. You get to pretend you're dead though!
Depends on what you mean by parts and what you mean by official. In competition we do either 4,5 or 6 step hornpipes. This vid shows a 4 step hornpipe. So it would be AAABBAABBAA... The first A being the intro. Some pipers use multiple tunes and splice them together for longer hornpipes so it'd be like AAABBAABBCCDD. Does that make sense? Message me if you want an attempt at further explanation.
Haha when I first started highland (after 4 years of Irish I was feeling the same way). I've gotten over it, but sometimes the two styles kinda bleed on each other in terms of technique.
Not as much as I'd like to... I'd say 4-6 competitions per year. My problem is that I do Irish dance as well, so I have to split my competitive time between the two.
oh that would be one harsh airplane ride:S and yes i do agree, victoria is completely gorgeous, i have alot of relatives that live there so its nice to go there, now and then.
I've been dancing in general since I was like 2.5, I started irish dance when I was about 9, still do that... Picked up Highland when I was 13 I think... Now I'm 17.
I won this... as well as the fling, swords and ST... got the trophy, the pre-premier aggregate and the outstanding VT pre-premier trophy... So I was proud of myself lol.
really good extensions :) wish mine were at good :) xx

That's fun! It's usually a pretty good competition--never much luck with the weather though--always really really hot or raining and nasty.

how many parts is the official Sailors Hornpipe include the intro???

ok, tnx but the normal hornpipe is 4 steps?? and the intro is one whole part of 8 bars??
001bagpiper 3 years ago
Ok so if a "part" is 8 bars, then a 4-step hornpipe is 9 parts, 5-step is 11 parts and a 6-step hornpipe is 13 parts.
highrishdancer 3 years ago
ok many tnx, i hope i can play it well now:):)
