I built one recently and already see a couple things I need to change (mainly because I prefer to sift several shovel-fulls at a time, and I have lots of debris)
1. build it so I can make longer push/pull strokes (longer rails on the lower section)
2. higher side walls to contain more of the debris
3. apron of sorts to funnel the sifted dirt into my wheel barrow
