  • I just got an A2300s and I believe it needs to be lubricated. I managed to clean up the heads and other tape path parts but it's still squeaking. I don't have much experience with these machines. Do you know what parts need to be lubricated, and how to access them?

  • "not right now mom!! im making a video!!! " classic!

  • The older Teacs required Lubrication of their capstan and reel motors. Their are lubrication tubes coming out of the motors. 2 tubes per motor. If the motors were never lubed. The bearings would be dry. Also tape lifts stick when not used. Wondering if the heads are still in proper alignment. Also most old Teacs were biased out of the factory for Scotch 207. Original rubber should be replaced especially this vintage of machine. 3 belts. Capstan, counter and Pinch roller.

  • @vincedog3 Can you tell us what the lubrication tubes look like? Are these the two black plastic tube-like things coming from the motors? If so, where do I put the oil? Thanks

  • @ryfleman it looks like small straws sticking out of the motor. In board and out board. 2 straws per motor. Just a few drops. Don't use too much.

  • @vincedog3 Thank you. For the life of me I can't find the lubrication tubes, and everything inside machine looks original and pristine.

  • I had one of these models and it was built like a tank. Very heavy and gave me years of good service.

  • that sound like me mom im bissey im record to 4:03

  • clean and oil it, usually helps

  • nice machine, but i have the big brother of that one (teac a-3340s)

  • beautiful machine!!

  • another good youtube vid

  • I love the part where your mom asks if you want to go to best buy!! great stuff!

  • hey man. i just got two of these. I am having trouble loading them. can you message me and see where i am messing up or if i am missing a part. i have two of these identical machines.

  • Does anyone know what teacs first machine was?

  • CassetteMaster, what sort of standards or criteria did you use to adjust the bias? I have the manual, but I don't have any of the Teac-made tapes normally used in making adjustments? Thanks.

  • @TheHuysmansChannel All I did was try to make it sound as good as the source; I had no manual or test tape.

  • lol, nice interuption from mom. I just got my first reel to reel and trying to learn a bit about care and maintinence. Its a magnavox 2 track 1/4"

  • CassetteMaster, you're awesome. Just discovered your videos. I'm old enough to remember when reel to reel tape decks were the only real hifi. I have a 4300 in storage, picked up a few years ago from an ex airforce electronics engineer who babied it. Broke the left side tensioning arm in a move, and no luck getting it fixed here in Toronto. Got any suggestions??

  • There might be parts on eBay.

  • Thanx. Really looking for suggestions about better machines, or is the TEAC 4300 worth fixing??

  • It should be worth it if you can find the part, if you can't you may be able to run it without the arm. It's a good machine.

  • Terrific, I'll drag it out of storage this weekend. I have the broken off arm part somewhere. Would I have any luck gluing it back on, or is the tension too high???

  • It might work to glue it back on.

  • should of been sold mine sorry

  • very nice machin used to have one wish i hadent of sold good soundind deck

  • Heads could be worn or dirty alcohol on the heads q tip for sure. If the tapes themselves are old they are not going to perform well. ha ha ha lol "mom.....you can't interrupt." lol Nice collection dude, we are looking at the next audio engineer, perhaps somebody will bring back the old good cool stuff. I still want one of those old Motorola "brick" cell phones to walk around talking on in Costco......ha ha ....a holes with the blue tooths drive me nuts.

  • Later after the video was made, I had adjusted the bias and the treble is greatly improved.

  • How do you adjust the bias?

  • In the bottom, where the circuit boards are, there are trimmers on the record circuit to adjust the bias. It basically controls the treble in the recording.

  • Hey Rick, do you wanna go to Best Buy?

  • I have the quadraphonic, semi-professinal, simul--sync, 10.5 inch capable version!

  • it's the teac A-3340S hey rickey, could you make a video of that deck?

  • I don't have that model.

  • i thoought i saw it in a video of yers.

  • but mom i'm not done yet lol

  • I have the A-2300sr and I am wondering what setting I should have the Rec bias (1 or 2 setting) and the Rec Eq (1 or 2 setting) set to.

  • Probably one. Just do with where it sounds the best.

  • i have the teac 2300sx and the teac X1000r. you have a very nice machine. u should try to find a teac x series tape deck, weather it is a 7 inch recorder or 10 inch.

  • I'm getting a Tandberg Reel to reel soon Is there a certain speed I need to record the tapes at?

What speed do I need to play the tapes back at?

  • you have an awesome collection

  • ho you see What s the problem is in video

  • ho my General Electric cassette recorder problem my audio head is a audio head sound problems i cleaning the head when water and it working for a 4 seconds and the audio head sound it down do you no What the problem is i do a video for the my General Electric cassette recorder for you ok

  • You should use 91% isopropal alcohol and Q-tips for head cleaning, as I heard water is not good for cleaning the heads.

  • ho What s the song eat 3:45 seconds in video do you no

  • "Private Eyes" - Hall and Oates

  • hi from jazzjames1 in you video What s the name of the song eat 3:45 the 2 music do you no the song

  • Sorry, but because they're from the radio I don't know the name.

  • very nice teac reel to reel deck i collect reel to reel too but for the moment i never find a teac i made little videos of a part of my collection on you tube thank you for your greats videos very detailled cheers

  • You need to oil the 3 Teac motors inside this machine, usually they have no oil tubes but you can still oil the front and back shafts.

And you need to oil the capstan shaft and capstan rubber roller shaft and all internal moving linkages as well.

  • You need to acquire a life besides reel to reel, I know, I had to go to Reel to Reel Anonymous or RTRA classes for my addiction. One reel machine is not enough, never!!! I need to go back to my RTRA classes soon.

Mom stop interrupting', shame on her!!!

Good luck with the addiction'and nice machine, LOL' I have the same machine and its great!!! Cheers'

  • I just bought one of those for $5 at a thrift, but I think an older one as it just says 2300S. Mine works fine, except for the fact that it was extremely dirty and the pinch would need assistance going from engaged to disengaged. I put a solvent on to loosen the hard grease to remedy that and it sounds great. I was please to find that the belt was intact and not the normal gummy mess found on older Teacs (I have two others awaiting belts).

  • How much do you want for the teac a 1500?

  • I already have that model.

  • anybody have any reel to reel recorders for sale?

  • i have a teac a1500w reel to reel for sale. excellant condition in original box, along w/vintage music.

  • can you buy spares for teac machines, i'm after the reel hubs i think they are called? I believe they are cast, and the casting on mine has all split. anywhere i can get any?

  • If it plays back with full frequency response but you are getting dull record/play performance, you may have to adjust the bias and/or record EQ. I had several Teacs and they ALL were set with the bias way high...

  • Luckily, later after the video was made, I adjusted the bias and got the treble REALLY good!

  • it's a nice teac man......days gone by....

  • Wish I could find some reel to reel tape recorders like you have. The only one I found was quite old, it had a valve (tube) amplifier, but it was mono and didn't have any reels with it. Nice machine tho. I show it in my "Playing an ordinary tape on a reel to reel tape recorder".

  • I have a TEAC 4010SL, and your machine is much quieter when you push the buttons. Mine bangs a lot. The solenoid doesn't seem to have a shock absorber.

The TEACs have oil tubes for the motors. If your motors are having problems, you might try looking for the oil tubes, if you haven't done so already. I like the light up meters!

  • you have the coolest collection of vintage audio equipment.

  • Hi,

I have the A6300 which is a bit older (1978) and takes the 10.5 inch reels. I see you have the tape at the supply reel going from the tensioner UNDER the auto reverse sensor. The tape should be OVER the auto reverse sensor on the left of your head pack, not UNDER it.

I like my 6300 BUT, reel-to-reel is a PITA. The heads could be worn down which would cause a drop in trebel response...

    Joey

  • This model is not auto-reverse.

  • I used to mess around with reel to reel. I sold my A-2300SX and collection of tapes after I decided to stay with cassettes and minidisc, and of course records!

In retrospect, I actually regret it. For a couple hundred dollars I could've gotten the heads algined, speed adjusted, and the gummed up pinch roller mechanism fixed.

it was a beautiful unit, too. oh well :-/

I've been watching your videos for the past hour. good stuff and keep 'em coming!

  • I have a Teac A2300S reel to reel and want to sell it. How much did you get for yours?

  • I got about 125 for the deck and tapes. Expect to get more, though. It is worth more than that.

  • What station plays that cheezy 80s elevator music just before the video stops? I'd like to hear more of that stuff.

  • 102.1 KOKY

  • Rick , the A - 2300S was a newer model I think your lack of treble responses as you describe was just the up dated electronics they were really moving away from the tube type sound at the time that machine was made I dont no whether it helped or hurt them that machine was really decent if you ask me.

  • I worked with edjusting bias and it got a lottle better. Now at 7 1/2 it sounds really good.

  • used to have a 2300 sx model which was great sold it and regretted it ever since, great video, thanks keep em coming!

  • Nice deck. Where do you get tape???? I wish I could get a Reel to Reel deck.

  • Sometimes it comes with a machine, once I got a bunch from a friend. Normally when I get tapes I end up getting lots at one time.

  • go on ebay i get them from there

  • I have a Teac A2300S reel to reel and want to sell it. Would you be interested??

  • Nice machine, it has the same features than the Sony TC-600 does, but it's different. It's by the same company that I have is a single cassette deck.

  • Very nice deck, I have one from the same product line era from Teak, diff. model however...

  • I like how you can change the speed on reel to reels. Cassettes should have a speed control, so you can play them at half the speed! That would be great for road trips! I just bought a bunch of 120 min. cassettes, and put some cool music on them so i can play them in the car this summer.

  • My Superscope permits that!

  • Tell your mom she is annoying for interrupting this video!

But, I try to leave my mom out of my projects because shes annoying too!

  • Yeah...moms can get annoying!

  • Just hang a Do Not Disturb sign on the room door where youère recording from.

  • or "No vaccum cleaners permitted" if you plan on sleeping in on a saturday morning :)

  • i see you also pay over $25 for cool machine too. same with me if something catches my eyes.
