  • SNAP...That really is Cornelius working the Sax!!!

  • Listen to this tune, then listen to Brooklyn, and you'll hear similarities, particularly in the chord structures, Herington's guitar, and the gospel-like piano fills.

  • Saw them live in St. Paul back about '03, and of everything they played, THIS is the song I couldn't get out of my head. Thanks for posting this.

  • ...Cornelius Lives!

  • Wow...hearing Cornelius play the sax will always give me chills. It's just not the same without him.

  • @garwood34

No doubt, garwood. My heart broke the day I heard of his passing. Roger Rosenberg is a capable player, but Cornelius had a depth and soulful intuition that just cannot be replaced. I always heard a lot of Stanley Turrentine in his playing. RIP

  • @richkurl

Hey Rich, when I saw Steely Dan in Cincinnati in 2000, Cornelius was sitting with his wife, out in the public, eating a hot dog and drinking a coke. Nobody seemed to notice him, but I knew who he was. But he was just chilling, and there was no way I was gonna be "that guy" who messed up his personal time. I sometimes regret not asking for an autograph. It would've only taken 4 or 5 seconds. But now that he's gone, I'm so happy I gave those extra 4 or 5 seconds to his wife.

  • I LOVE this!

  • it's only promo stuff, but its good enough for the SD show, priceless people priceless !

  • We miss you, Cornelius....it's just not the same.

  • ...Gotta love Cynthia Calhoun - what a doll!

  • Gotta love mu chords.

  • There's a misspelled word in the lyrics. They use "to" when they meant to use "too". If Fagan had caught that he would have insisted a corrected version be made.

  • @har9020

If Donald Fagen catches your spelling of his name(Fagan), he's likely to demand a corrected version.

  • @Jimtoonz thanks, I thought that, but thought better as we all make mistakes. LOL, enjoy thanks for the laugh ;.)

  • Love this as a legitimate song; the groove and performances. Could Cynthia Calhoun enjoy herself anymore?? I found a video of her on youtube performing with Stanley Clarke's former keyboardist, Sunnie Paxson.

  • Ms. Calhoun IS a gas, isn't she? Great smile that draws you in and makes you feel like she's singing just to YOU. I really like her!

  • The Bumpus solo at 2:18 is a great piece of work, especially around 2:25 when the band is making those steamy chord changes!

  • More bands should sing about themselves. Brilliant. Especially the buy stuff part.

  • The more I listen to this song, the more it grows on me. What a band, what professionals!

  • I've seen SD twice - Wembley, London in 1996 and Hammersmith, London in 2000 - Both class gigs. Going to Birmingham on 29th June this year to see them again and can't wait. Here in the UK we also have an ACE tribute band called Nearly Dan. Check them out here on youtube, or at a gig near you. (Not to be confused with the Nearly Dan in the US who nicked the name from them, and are pretty much a karaoke act anyway!)

  • I dig Jon's playing here.

    SD having fun!..Cool.

  • This was funny as shit when I saw it, Fagen and Becker mocking us again.Let's sing Hey Nineteen together now

  • I've been to 15 SD concerts and 5 Fagen solo shows. I pass up the deal on promo stuff every time.

  • What year was your favorite? Did you see the New York Rock & Soul Revue?

  • First concert was '96. Probably 2000 was my favorite tour.

  • I saw them here in Sydney Australia on their first OZ/NZ Tour 2 years ago. I can now die happy, unless of course they announce another tour shortly.

  • This song is mostly tongue and cheek but it is still OK!

  • This song always makes me well up.. happened to be one of the most emotional nights of my life when I heard it live last year and for some reason this is the song that makes me most reminiscent

  • the 'heartache blues' angle of attack is as encapsulating as it gets. i just love the wit of this band.

  • "The groove that never quits"...got that right! Thanks Don and Walt for the ongoing excellence.

  • Donald & Walter and Co. will be holding court later on this month in L.A. See y'all at the Nokia.

  • When you hear this song, you know you've made it to the Steely Dan show! Maybe someday it'll be on an album. The next two songs they're "ashamed" of are probably Janie Runaway and "Hey Nineteen".

  • I agree!! I heard/seen this song during the '03 tour and was bummed that I would probably never hear it again. thanks to carlospc it lives on(at least for now)

  • this song have to be in the next album!

  • Only if they want the album to be extra cheesy. It's a shitty song and they're making fun of their own show I believe. The lyrics are garbage of course. Why would you want to hear it on an album? Just curious...

  • I understand that you don´t like this song. Shitty song? I liked the chorus a lot, sounds a litle christmas song, but it´s very melodic to me. It´s unsual a band sing a song about your own show, but theres humor in this happy song, I get it and the crowd in the show liked, perfect for openings. and of course, after recorded in the studio, this song can be very different! With these musicians miracles happens. Here in Brazil we don´t have steely fans,Ihear the first time only months ago, bigfannow

  • Right on man! Glad to hear that the Dan is finding fans in Brazil! If you like the song then dig it. Doesn't matter what I think. Hey, while you're getting into the music, never stop digging and looking for more:

-Gaucho -Donald Fagen's The Nightfly -Two Against Nature -Alive in America -Countdown to Ecstasy -The Royal Scam -Aja -Donald Fagen's Morph the Cat -Donald Fagen's Kamikiriad- Katy Lied. YOU HAVE A LOT OF LISTENING TO DO!

  • Thanks for the tips! I swear that I never saw a Steely Dan CD in a store! Youtube saved me, hahahha. bye

  • true musical pioneers.

  • @fzerostrike O que você quer dizer com "Here in Brazil we don´t have steely fans"? Só por quê você acabou de descobrir Steely Dan nada aconteceu antes nem ao mesmo tempo? Toquei Dan profisisonalmente em 1989 (Do it Again).

  • have you ever seen them live?

  • 3x.

  • r.i.p. cornelius

  • Herington strums his Tele. 'Nuff said.

  • Hahahah-- "a trubute to us, written by... us, I'm ashamed to say" (is he channeling Woody Allen, or am I just whistling dixie?).

  • i believe it's meant to be self depricating humor.

  • That 'White Girl' is mighty fine

  • anyone know where i can get a id of this years tours intro, it sort of a had a price is right sound to it???

  • Great rhymthic tune with a haunting feel.

  • The song's unreleased right? Anywhere can I get it? It's great

  • You are right this song is not released.

You can get this whole concert on The Trader's Den, in DVD or audio CD.

  • Thanx, i'll try that

  • thank you for posting this vid. I never thoght I would ever hear this song again! the sound and picture quality are top notch, for all your video's. I like the last person's comments they sum it all up!

  • You dont get that many top class musicians on one stage. Wonderful band!

  • Cornelius is amazing !!

  • jon herrington bears a striking resemblance to stephen colbert. is there a way for comedy central to do something with that? musical guests wouldn't hurt an hour show.

  • Been looking for this forever, many thanks!! Great, low-key and fun song for the second half of concerts by the best band around.

  • The coolest audience participation sing-a-long pocket groove on the planet. Out here in L.A, we digs Steely Dan. This is the best copy of the Steely Dan SHow I've seen or heard on the net. Great job!

  • Been a "Dan Fan" since "Dallas/Sail The Waterway" single.

    Fine performance.

  • r.i.p. cornelius...

  • Nice when you can see the goodness

on the faces of the band.

  • Buy a program and/or a hat....love it :)

  • Gorge 96 would be a good one too

  • yeah, easily the best Steely show I have ever heard

let's get this one out on DVD boys....ASAP

  • Hes not bad on the old guitar that Jon Herrington is he?

  • nunca lo habia escuchado, es bueniiisimo

  • Donald and Walter should take a cd of this tour, it was really good

  • i love this track. it's good enough for a promo stuff! haha
