Ah this is great..I listened to a bunch of your recent tracks and found it hard to hear feeling so pyrotechnical were the displays..and here it is all about feeling....I know how great a player you are it is just a caution not to let the allure of hyper-technicality take over emotional intensity..there are hundreds of speed wizards out there and I think that you have way too much talent to let yourself fall into this category.
Great playing and great tone but man, get some fibre in your diet! You look like you are trying to shit but can't! I'm not hating, would love the playing skills just not the guitar face!
@heidegger101 That is absolutely true, this kid is very soulful in his playing. On the other hand,he can rip a solo that will melt your face off and frighten small children ;/
I like cleanly executed melodic patterns as much as the next guy, but what really reached me emotionally was his slow and expressive playing. Terry Syrek was right...great melodies, bending, and vibrato are where the magic is.
Awesome Sam! Can you tell me what that decending zakk wylde sounding lick you do? It looks like it's off of the E and B STRINGS...I LOVE THE SOUND OF THAT LICK DUDE! I've seen you do it in a lot of your videos...a breakdown would be awsome bro! Take care, Shred.

you have fantastic technique perfect control on everything i heard congratulations.Butwhat usually dissapoints me is,why dont you try putting all that soul into your playing, and try getting away from your inspirations try something different.you have got what is needed.I think you should listen to jeff beck, songs like suspension,or where were you,im not saying to play like that but to open your mind on different musical styles.
This is an excellent video Sam...I have this BT and I practice to it all the time, but I have a hard time with the slower BPM. I'm gonna watch this one a bunch off times.
@Jinskee I have a question for you. What do you guys mean when you speak of phrasing in regards to guitar playing? I hear this term alot and don't really understand it. thanks
@OddManOut13 Phrasing doesn't just apply to guitar...it essentially means note choice. If someone puts in well timed "blue" notes or chromatic licks for example, some might say he has good phrasing. It's pretty broad. Even following chord changes with the corresponding modes might incline someone to say: "nice phrasing." If it flows and you like the sound, it wouldn't be inappropriate to compliment their "phrasing." :)
@thehighlander9999 so, in drumming terms that I understand, it would be like a well placed, and unexpected accent or fill of sorts. I gotcha....thanks!
@oscarsstuff If you do it tastefully, it's good phrasing also...sometimes the song calls for a bend instead of a slide - someone who has good phrasing will recognize that. I honestly don't understand what you're debating.
@oscarsstuff I'm not arguing that...I'm not arguing anything. I was simply trying to define what "good phrasing" means. I think we are in agreeance: phrasing is good when it sounds good...simple as that.

It lacks Gary high notes phrases.
He stays too long in medium & bass notes.
It lacks expressions at high notes.
But good prestation.

@thehighlander9999 dude thats bullshit... what about picking notes soft or hard, with rake; different ways of doing vibrato; slides; bends etc...
oscarsstuff 1 year ago
@oscarsstuff If you do it tastefully, it's good phrasing also...sometimes the song calls for a bend instead of a slide - someone who has good phrasing will recognize that. I honestly don't understand what you're debating.

@thehighlander9999 well when a song calls for a bend and a guitarist does something else and it sounds cool - thats good phrasing imo.
