  • Explaining a Cultural Reference: in 1600s Japan, Christianity was banned. If an area was suspected of harboring Christians, its inhabitants would be instructed to step on a picture of the Crucifixion. Those that refused were arrested.

    Thus the scene with stepping on a vinyl record.
