  • How cold you say that they aren't "loving" parents? You don't know what situation they are in or how you would react! Given that people always say, "I would do this or that in a situation," from my life experience, I learned that you do not know until you are there.

  • They got one thing wrong, they will not kill smart people. they will kill people who rebels and is smart. Smart but easily mislead would be in charge under a false idea.

  • Why discotheques only 10 min long?

  • Dang

  • What a beautiful little boy...

  • I remember our teacher reading us this when I was about 13, now i do politics and love the sci fi political stuff!

  • *correcting myself, first published 1958 - unsure of when written..

  • @newtimesscarytimes

    @BlackZer00

These are loving parents. They have not given their lives to the state with any intent. This is a dystopia, they do not have any choice. It is merely a projection of cold-war USA, a dystopic state has arisen where the Government controls intelligence levels to maintain its control. This is a 1954 text, an extrapolation from then. Don't get stupidly worked up about this now, it is not and has not happened.

Although it appears Americans are getting dumber...

  • hey, i read this story in and R.L. Stine book?

  • Each time they say "government" or "State" in this video just substitute the word "corporation" and you have a good idea of where we are today.

  • funny thing...the kid's supposed to be really smart, but he downs the liquid without question in a jiffy.

  • interesting fable. would have preferred a more realistic, down to earth representation of dystopia.

would parents really be ok with this kind of state control? unlikely.

  • Thats where we are headed LOL....( Notice the Large Pyramid ) overlooking the city???... You can see its shadow at night when they showed the lighting storm over the city.

  • Woah, that was fucked up! Who knew being too smart was such a bad thing?

  • that was so creepy, and i would never let my 2 get killed for any reason. F THE GOVERNMENT, i dont vote and i follow God, not people. also, i gave up TV.

  • Neo-Liberal Social Vandalism and Cultural Terrorism and Abject Moral Cowardice by the Global Corporate State and its Supporting Apparatchik Progressive Anti-Racist Intelligensia .

The elites are so wicked and morally emaculated by the 50 year old Left wing ideological tyranny of " anti-racism " that when Muslims in the UK began to practice widespread gang rape and grooming of under age young white girls , the police and the social services covered it up .

  • Couldn't they have the kid work for the government? Sure, it might suck, but still, that's an idea.

  • Anybody here subscribe to NAUResistance? He has a great channel.

  • Saw this earlier today and my jaw dropped at the end when it's revealed they kill kids for being too smart. I was initially disgusted with Dicky's parents for not at least warning the kid, but then again that probably wouldn't have done any good. At least he spent his last few moments ignorant and happy.

  • FUCK, I'M NEVER STUDYING FOR FINALS AGAIN.

  • I don't care if the newer ones are in color, i like the 1960's twilight zone better. >:/

  • i was the same as this kid when this came out, same age, too. i was also a prodigy.with an i.q.off the scale for my age group,i thought and still think this or something like this could happen to me to this day!!i therefore purposely screwed up,and dropped out by 15.whether its outcompeting your peers,or being a threat to national security, bad things happen when youre to far ahead of everyone else. you sound crazy to everyone,at the very least!

  • @irishbreakfast bullshit.

  • That city looks like the one from Zeitgist. Too scary.

  • I simply don't get it.The government killed him just because of being smart? What's the sense??If you're intelligent you're an enemy of the state or what?As if you wanted to become ruler of the world!...Hell,aren't they pretty overdoing?I mean, yeah, very smart people have a much harder way through life,I'm experiencing it myself, but it's not like they're seen as potentially danger!..This story upsets me,I can't see what the author wants to tell me. Take care of the government?Or don't be smart?

  • @LeoJoePuschel Tyrants always kill the intelligent ones first. Why? Because the smart ones can figure out the lies and propaganda and try to warn the rest.

Mao in China is one of the best examples. If you had glasses they murdered you. Glasses were a sign of intelligence and literacy.

  • @LeoJoePuschel Basically trying to portray a government that wants all of their members to be smarter than the common folk. That way, people (smart people) wont begin questioning the governments decisions and such, thus preventing revolts, rebellions, etc.

  • its about time

  • This episode is doubtlessly one of the scariest....

  • This is the only episode of the Twilight Zone that made me cry at the end.

I HATE THIS EPISODE!!! IT IS SO FREAKY!!

  • There is a book just out now called Swipe--when a kid comes of age in the futuristic world he has to take a test and get a mark. Kids who don't pass "disappear". I am realizing it is very very similar to this Twilight Zone episode.

  • @YOMAMA63336 you mean demoCRAPS

  • This is a quaint little episode but in all reality would never happen. There is no way you can get between a mother and a son to this degree on this large of a scale.

  • @mlmr11 Nope would never happen on Earth ever! Well, er um I mean at least not until Pharaoh , King Herod, Chairman Mao, Hitler, and those others were born. But other than that forget it! NEVER Ever...because mimr even says so!

  • @saltcitystud What the hell is the matter with you ?

  • @mlmr11 Are you serious? Poor delusional and naive soul. Probably the same stupid thing Germans were saying when Jewish people were being gassed and thrown into mass graves. It could never happen? Wake up for real.

  • @kecola I think you guys are misinterpreting what I'm saying . Yes I get that despotism and tyranny are the norm . I 'm well aware of Nazi Germany and Soviet Union etc. What I'm saying is that this sort of tyranny is not likely to sustain itself because nothing is stronger than the bond of a mother and child. In the USA you can already see people waking up to the scientific dictatorship and refusing vaccination etc. I know this "stuff" happens I'm not as stupid as I look

  • @mlmr11 Ah, I see. My apologies. I did take what you originally said the wrong wrong. Sorry bout that. I feel like the government is well on it's way in trying to find better means in which to control the population. I, too, feel as though people will uprise and rebel is this kind of crap is implemented. Hate to say it but the majority might continue to be sheeple :( Too many people still have the wool pulled over their eyes.

  • @kecola You're right the majority will continue to be sheeple it's been that way through history. By being sheeple they're not involved in the fight. So then it becomes a numbers game of us against them minus the sheeple. If only 5% of the 99%ers get pissed that puts the odds at 5-1. No amount of firepower can overpower those odds. Especially if you take in to consideration the 5 are fighting for their survival with nothing to lose. The 1% ers are and always will be thieving cowards

  • Too familiar, except in my country, the smart ones are made to become part of the government. Or if you're super smart, they groom you to marry into their elite circle.

  • though this is a older show, this needs to be aired frequently..... or remade for todays programing.....but i doubt this ''goverment'' would let that happen.. :-/

  • Thts sad....damn

  • ok so... what happened to the boy?

  • @babybff12 they killed him for being too smart

  • we are magnificent beings all of us!!!.....all we need ..is love....love from the heart....this episode shows us ......what could happen....but if your love is from your heart.....this twilight episode will be entertaining showing us whnat could happen being ignorant and submersive!!!

  • the government already does aptitude and attitude tests....so they already know who you will most likely turn out to be...they get to see who is smart and who is gutsy and who is both and then play their socialization "civilization" training on you to retrain you to comply....i didnt need to be wakened....i was born awake to it...

  • "You're almost a man!"

    Really? He's 12, he's nothing but a child.

  • The little boy said it best "I'd rather read there's nothing good on tv" The Government and the nwo (i.e 1% of the populations who control the world) want you docile and compliant. WAKE UP!

  • didnt get it

  • @JUST1SELL1IT7 then you're probably safe if this scenario plays out in reality...which btw is very possible the way things seem to be headed...

  • @75rmc75 thanks =)

  • @JUST1SELL1IT7 well! than you pass the test! Good for you, bad for us!

  • shits creepy.

  • is she pregnant??

  • just take your vaccines, eat your chemical laden food, watch your hypnotic, flickering brainwashing device, and above all, VOTE FOR WHO YOU ARE TOLD TO VOTE FOR!

  • man that little boy look like an old person

  • I remember watching this episode I liked it cause he's and only child so was I love twilight zone thanks for uploading

  • This is what the Democrats want to do to white people.

  • @YoMama63366

    Don't worry; you'd be safe

  • lol dickie haha

  • if ur stupid its easier to control because people dont ask questions.

  • If i ever have to take this test l will pretend to drink the liquid but keep it in my mouth. When the man looks away, i will spit the drink into my shirt. Actually, i have an IEP so i wont pass this test

  • Tone, compare this episode with Harrison Beregon, it's a jumping start to get ideas.

  • Anthony, did you watch the video closely, he was killed for being too smart.

  • so whats the point of this episode? I need help cause im going to write a paper thanks!

  • @TonneGama

The boy was killed for being too smart. The Government wants the people to be stupid so that they will be easier to control since they'll be too dumb to think and question their Government. The point of the episode is that the Government silences anyone who questions them as they are power-hungry.

  • what happens if your super dumb!

  • Pause at 1:53 perver

  • High intelligence is about the only thing we have going for us as a species when compared to other animals. Take away the intelligence and what do you have left?

  • This is one of the few episodes from the '80s Twilight Zone that is so brilliant it can stand comfortably alongside the stories written by Rod Serling himself. And its blistering commentary on authoritarian states' pervasive fear of a learned underclass isn't nearly as far-fetched as it would seem. The Khmer Rouge, for example, would execute people for no greater crime than wearing eyeglasses, because glasses were the mark of somebody who could read.

  • the ending pissed me off!! actually it made me sad...

  • @Sound88Check could be? what could be about it

  • It's funny how different people's reactions can be. I mean when I went through Army induction (back in the Vietnam era) and informed my foster mother (after she asked) that I'd put her down as the insurance beneficiary (20-Gs) her big, fat ass-end floated 10 feet off the floor as she asked me 3 times to repeat myself, as she was all giddy about possibly pocketing such easy money if I returned "home" in a bag.

I wonder if "Dicky's" mom would have taken it better if they'd given her a fur coat?

  • @guyNbluejeans Graham, I think YOU exceed the government standard (judging from your profile). Be very careful around government employees. Tell them nothing. It's the only way to be safe.

Oh, your're a damn good fiction writer too.

  • @nemo227 Thanks! A day or so after I wrote this cry-baby post I thought that I should locate it and remove it. But seeing that it's gotten two thumbs up I'll let it stand. I also thought that this little vid and its message might be better if the government were to rid society of all the imbeciles (instead of the bright ones); but that smacks too much of nazism, I suppose.

Glad you liked my obnoxious bio! Again, Thanks and Take Care!

  • I couldn't stop laughing at the end.

  • LOL!! That's fucked up.

  • @TheIsaac2k10 aka couple bottles of whisky lol

  • I can't believe how many views this has! More than any other Twilight Zone. Way more.

  • What a fucked up world!!

  • the kid from Over the Top

  • Lamentablemente la palabra twilight ahora se asocia a "vampiros" manfinfleros...

  • I just don't get the story... Can someone please summarize the story? Why did the boy die? What is wrong with exceeding the intellgence on the government examination?

  • @TiffanyLoveIU its pretty much just painting a picture of a messed up future where the government doesnt want people to think

  • @TiffanyLoveIU If you need to ask, then you don't need to worry; they'd never kill you.

  • @TiffanyLoveIU The Government wants you stupid. Sheeple are easier to control than smart intelligent folks who think and question.

  • @58rodros I fully agree. Which is why, this twilight zone episode freak me out and bothers me so much. for it's not just idea of the Government too much power. But , the idea of parents being so docile. That they aren't even willing to stand up, when their child is in danger. In the end, this nothing more then a cautionary tale of what happens. if we rely on the Government to make all our decision for us.

  • @58rodros

History shows that the smart and incisive are rounded up and killed.

TPTB want you stupid, docile and a follower. This is due to centuries of slavery and feudalism.

  • @58rodros and you're a credulous imbecile who believes in ufos, so you probably shouldn't be making any reference to intelligence.

  • @TiffanyLoveIU because they dont want smart people alive, the want the dummies, so that way they can control you easier, its easy to control a stupid person

  • wow, what a crazy show episode...we certainly hope our own government doesn't go to this extreme!

  • @1MormonT

It would never happen, people wouldn't let it happen.

  • interesting.the gov will kill anyone for being tooo intelligent.hints they don't like people who can think outside the box/for themselves.sad but true

  • Why are they crying if they already knew their son was special? Silly. LOL!

  • @Bjorkadmirer Their son got killed!!

  • @kashma5 But I mean they probably knew that was going to happen:)

  • This liquid you just drank was cyanide. Good day son!

  • He turns out okay. He befriends a frog that sounds like Paul Williams.

  • Not just smart. Smart and not qualified to have the intelligence. The examiner isn't dumb. The politicians who came up with the law and of course have their own genetic banks also would qualify to be intelligent.

  • They kill you for being smart...wtf

  • that is just sad... :( but a nice story...

  • I remember reading the short story this was based on. Nice to see how it was filmed.

  • The Lil Boy is so adorable

  • He looked freakin' smart.

  • Thrive for your kids to do well, OR PERISH!

  • that some weird clothes in the future

  • now I'm sad

  • this future looks so organized that its bland

  • 10 people failed the government exam

  • Comment removed

  • I dont get it. What happened?

  • @Maddy922 The child was put to death because he was too smart.

  • @Ray13star oh shit!

  • @Ray13star The young person was put to death because he had a high intelligence but his parents were of lower intelligence. Both parents had failed the test earlier in their lives. The highest threat to an aristocracy is for a highly intelligent individual or group of individuals to be born and raised in a lower class. The highly intelligent individual or group have the ability of enlightenment. This would raise the intelligence of the less intelligent and a threat to the aristocracy.

  • dont you tell your wish first before you blow your candles??

  • People don't need to be too smart. I'm glad my school didn't let this one kid try to jump grades and I'm glad the college he wanted to attend required he have a high school diploma. Some people think they can finish school early and finish college early. They should be put down like this kid was! At least our government doesn't let them in to college until they are old enough

  • @Yeppr have them put down?? exterminate intelligent people? What would you prefer to have running the world? Ignorants, like you?

  • @Yeppr wow. i surprised that you can even figure how to use a computer...you intellegence is so threateningly small..wow..you really shouldnt open your mouth

  • @Yeppr So you think just because someone is intelligent they should be put to death! what the fuck is wrong with you, you ignorant bastard! People can't help it if they're naturally gifted. i hope to god that your just a troll, but if your not your a sick fuck.

  • @Yeppr I'm being sarcastic...Look at our current system and see why homeschooling has grown so much in the past 20 years. All they do is hold kids back. Rules Rules Rules Rules..that's all school is now..they could care less if the kids learn anything beneficial..all they care about is if they are respectful and on time

  • @Yeppr Wrong, they care if you pass a test, then who cares what you do after. Just because i got a slightly bad grade on a single test shouldn't mean i'm a dumb person. There's a lot of factors that go into tests, maybey person was sick, maybe a family member died, maybe they didn't study, maybe they're not good at memorizing etc etc

  • If it were on Tales From The Crypt it would've been titled "No Child Left A-Head".

  • No child left ahead.

  • Best one

  • I loove this one very interesting and creepy thanks for posting

  • Sadly, this sort of thing has already happened in the real world. In dictatorships like those of Stalin and Mao, key targets for elimination or "reconditioning" were intellectuals - people smart enough to question the established order. Shows how narrow-minded, paranoid and hateful power can make you.

  • Thanks for posting, I saw this one when it first came out and it has always stuck in my head since then.

  • oh my gosh a what?!

  • Crazy

  • That was great. Inspirational.

  • because stupid people are malable (google it) if you watch reality t.v guess what, your stupid, and most the country does. If your a grown adult and you get all your information from a biased news channel, instead of thousands of years of literature, philosophy, and history, then you are indeed an imbicile by no fault but bad parenting and habits.

  • @Domonkoss

    Don't you mean malleable?

  • @Domonkoss I love that you're presumptuous enough to declare "google it" after what you apparently assume to be an obscure word, but you have numerous misspellings and misuse of words.

  • Comment removed

  • @Domonkoss And don't you mean "you're"? Watch reality television shows much? And by the way, you can use the little key marked SHIFT to make a little letter into a big letter for beginning a sentence, in case you didn't know. It is called a capital. (Google that.)

  • 5 minutes of fox news and he would be a subserviant little slave to the state, did they cut the scene with president Palin?

  • Keep funneling the money to the rich, this will be the result when a handful of people control the entire country.

  • Last I checked every liberal I ever talked to was 100% for putting more money into education, where as conservatives were too busy thinking up the next place to bomb, or how to funnel more money to wallmart and other republican funded corporate juggernaughts. Yes if you let the gays marry, we will enter into an orwellian hellish future, lol republicans are getting absurdly desperate.

  • @Domonkoss - Yes lets put more money into the goverment school system so that every child is raised by the teachings of the federal government because the federal government can raise your child so much better than parents can.

  • IN the future ALL CUPS ARE SQUARE

  • @Domonkoss

    In the FUTURE.

  • there are 4 things that stand out,1.the Gov building in start of show is a pyramid 2..they all wear a same style shirt..rep a communist style/nwo/one world..3 the cake is blue..rep blue lodges freemason and their shirts too...4 the boy is 13...rep the 13 bloodlines of the order...and the fact Gov is controlling all aspects of human life..to kill anyone who is to smart to figure out the are fucked/walking talking slaves...

  • I wouldn't say that these parents weren't loving. They've just been cowed by the state. This is what happens when the population refuse to stand up and tell the millitary/industrial complex "No".

  • @HPGWellscraft in 1984 by orwell, at least i think it was in that book, one of the parents had a chip in his brain that dumbed them down, which makes more sense since for a child to have a high IQ it would most likely have to be inherited. Still, I don't think that stupidity is the issue. I think that a sense of purpose is more important in the real word than how fast you can number crunch.

  • @redarrowhead2 as it happens 1984 is the next book i plan on reading so i shall see if this is indeed the story with the brain implant. But i believe you are right, wasn't it Winston Churchill that said "Continuous effort-not strength or intelligence-is the key to unlocking our potential."?

  • @HPGWellscraft That isn't in "1984." Instead, it's in a Kurt Vonnegut novel, in which the citizens have to wear devices that negate whatever gift the person has in order to make everyone "equal," on a level playing field. Instead, "1984" is simply about a post-atomic world in which the government controls and spies on everyone, and where all the citizens turn each other in for imagined crimes. And there are constant wars on in all corners of the globe. Sort of like the Bush years...

  • @MartianStories That equalizing concept sounds alot like a trailer for a movie i just saw. i forget the name but athletic ppl had to wear weights and smart ppl had to wear earmuffs or something. It looked pretty crazy.

  • @HPGWellscraft Yeah, that sounds like the movie version, which was pretty good. I don't remember the name of the movie, but it was the main character's name. The book had a different title. Which I also don't remember. Vonnegut books run all together in my head...

  • @MartianStories Well im going to look this guy up and read some of his stuff cuz he sounds like my kinda guy.

  • @HPGWellscraft Found the title. The film was called "Harrison Bergeron." Which was pretty good. I'm not sure, but I think the Vonnegut novel was called "2081" or "Harrison Bergeron, 2081."

I actually saw Vonnegut speak when I was in college, a speech on diagramming the plot of The Great American Story. He went on for hours, drunk off his ass, diagramming several of his stories on a whiteboard. Then, he said: "It's bullshit. You CAN'T diagram a great story. They just come out or don't."

  • @MartianStories yup, thats the one (2081). Which is weird cuz it's fair, but then we find out that fair isn't good, or right. But this Vonnegut guy sounds like a character. LoLz imma have to look him up. :D

  • @HPGWellscraft Yeah, he's truly a great writer. Very fun read, but on the weird side for sure. Scifi-art. I recommend "Slapstick" for a first-read. That's my fave. Although it's hard to go wrong with Vonnegut. Probably his most famous book is "Slaughterhouse Five."

  • @MartianStories I'll look up "Slapstick" but "Slaughterhouse Five" seems to have caught my interest. :D lolz

  • so why did he die because he was smart?

  • @TootlesOodles exactly

  • AN EPISODE LIKE THIS IS FORTELLING WHAT IS GOING TO BE IN THE REAL ZONE !!!!!

  • @micpeee Maybe in North Korea. In Iran, the Intelligent people would be for Malevolent purposes.

  • @micpeee how do u see the next episode?

  • It really isn't at all likely that an especially kid could live to 12 without knowing what the test is really about?

  • it would be just as bad if all kids who weren't intelligent were doomed.

  • KKKKKKK...Parece que já começou! Dá uma olhadinha nessa matéria: nytimes.com do dia 20 de maio de 2011

  • not a problem in the modern day US

  • Twilight zone you did it again, you freak me out with possible nightmares that would hunt me at night :)
