  • $38 and you get a Cam Caddie that will get you easily comparable results and you can attach lights/mics/ and a monitor if need be. I guess you could say I'm an enthusiast.

  • For $800 google mini dv stabilizer first.

  • The Merlin is junk- sold mine in a week after purchasing it. Don't waste your money.

  • @wastedlives Too bad you didn't stick with it long enough to learn how to use it. I get great results from mine.

  • The truth comes out. You must use both hands to keep the camera steady. If you don't, this is what happens:

    1. The camera will start to rotate when your walking. You don't want that.

    2. A pendulum effect will accur which would give your video a swinging effect.

Your arms will really get tired from the weight of your camera and the counter weights on Merlins.

    Conclusion: Not worth the $800 - $900.

Get a Monopod to keep camera stationary and avoid walking as much.

  • @beerborn Oh yeah, that's the best advice for film makers. might as well just tell photographers all to just buy primes and tell your subjects to move around.

As far as steadycam's go: the Merlin is pretty awesome. little overpriced, but well worth it for the ease of use/result.

  • @beerborn "Truth comes out?" Hardly a secret.

A skilled operator can operate a Merlin one-handed. Beginners will almost certainly use two hands in order to control pan and tilt. How do you get to be skilled? Practice.

If you're getting a pendulum effect, the Merlin is too bottom heavy.

Arm tiredness depends on the camera and (again) practice. There is a vest and arm available for the Merlin, or you can use one of the larger vest products for heavier cameras or long shoots.

  • i love it guys alsome im going to try these right now

  • wow

  • was it a cat meowing at the end?

  • this guy sucks genitals

  • How do you know that it is pd 190? fact, it isn.t pd 170, becouse I can't see any knobs... In internet i can't find any information about this video camera.

  • sony pd-190 and sony hdv fx-1

  • He said you are gonna use the missionary position 90% of the time ROFL.

  • Haha, nice.

  • Can you use the Steadicam Merlin with a Sony handycam DCR-HC17E (mini dv)?

  • 800 bucks and it comes with a plastic piece of crap handle..what a joke

  • That'll do

  • @dabigjokeoftheday How many fucking videos are you going to post this on, fucking troll.

  • can you mount a xh-a1 ???

  • what did he say about nuts and missionary position?

  • he say that you put the nuts in the sack

  • Too bad my camcorder is a bit too heavy... with battery, it's around 2.6kg (and the battery weight is around 200g)

  • You can't go wrong with the Merlin....as long as you don't exceed the weight limit, it works great...they are now making a metal gimbal model

that can carry more weight...I believe cameras up to 7 pounds....the secret is in the gimbal...watch out for poor imitations! Worth every penny.

  • i suppose you still cant shoot 1-2 hours of time with a merlin tough...

  • I have built 4 steadicams so far, each of them was utilizing the Merlin Gimbal handle...

the price for the real deal is totally worth it...it is a perfectly engineered marvel, that only the brain of garrett Brown could have come up with! This guy who is talking shit about his buddy who built a wooden one??! What a load of shit. The Merlin is the real deal!

  • How is the quality of the Merlin, the small gimbal looks quite fragile. I'm really considering buying this, but how much better is it than $300 glidecams? I just want to make sure i make a good purchase. Thanks.

  • i love this

  • Wow. Great.

  • 800 dollars is too way much. I saw a guy make it for 20 dollars. A Wooden one, but you cannot see the difference beteween the merlin and the wooden one.

  • And it looks great painted black, also.

  • i would like to get 1~~

  • i like it doggy style

  • "...the reverse mode or 'don juan'..."

  • "the missionary position or forward-operating position".

  • AWESOME!
