@C12830772 In a way I can see them as Vulcan uniforms. But you're right that those belt buckles are just too stupid.  A full black belt like on the Wrath of Khan uniforms or of the same colour, then THAT I can understand. IF they were Vulcan.

The Motion Picture was Too tense, too Serious and tried to make everything super important and too important ; Boring ! due to poor vision and carooy writers that didnt take it like a real atmospheric story.

Mr. Scott should have been in charge of the Engineering Facility at the Starbase where the Enterprise and other ships were being overhauled.The ship that Commodore James Kirk was on with Executive Officer Sulu and Science Officer Chekov was on would pull in for repairs.

I used to have the book that accompanied this, and I remember Ilya reassuring a worried crew saying something like "we do not mate with inferior species"... Yet it wasn't in the film the other night and it wasn't in this. Nor did it mention what would happen if she did...

@C12830772 My god yes. This movie is such an aesthetic product of the seventies - neutral, bland, boring - the movie uniforms of STII through VI are the BEST uniforms in my opinion, the perfect balance of formality, militaristicness, functionality, and aesthetics.

I am not surprised it can be told in ten minutes. The film was very good, but there was a lot of padding, such as scenes looking at the outside of the ship, or panning through space as portentous music played. The cinematography of TMP was particularly poor, as I think these stills show.

I had this when I was a kid. I remember being really confused when the movie didn't match the read a long book. Obviously this was out together before they cut out the Memory Wall scene.

Search for a page called "Starship Dimensions". It has awesome pictures of starships and vessels of all kind of movies and series, and puts their size into relation.

Having seen some of the rough cuts on the Director's Edition DVD, I'd have to disagree - about as exciting as adding in the Rock Man footage from Star Trek V ;-)

Though it looks like the blu-ray of Motion Picture will be the original theatrical release, meaning that's one I won't be getting :-(

This is friggin' awesome! I love the generic ass music and the blatantly ripped off Star Wars sound FX. I actually owned this at one time as a McDonald's Happy Meal "tie in". Amazingly there's more movement in this than in the actual movie. Weird as fuck!

no, they didn't. they couldn't have done those kind of effects right after they did Star Wars. they were working on The Empire Strikes Back while this was being made. they didn't have that kind of money to do the effects that was required, either.

No it's not. I know "V'Ger being the origin of the Borg" is popular fan theory, but it simply doesn't work. The Borg say in Voyager they've been around for ages, when V'Ger's...erm...ascended existance (call it what you will) has only lasted 200 years (by the time of the 24th century).
