  • graet ...thank you

  • BRILLIANT...THANK YOU VERY MUCH

  • k guys, sorry for the -ve comment, hope to see the pull off soon, respect

  • i love guitar music when its just the sound of the guitar and nothing else, so soothing and magnificent

  • Magnifica interpretacion

  • I need to learn how to strum like that, it's amazing o.o;

  • Fantastic as always...thank you

  • Brilliant as always...thank you.

  • Bravo good job man

  • strong and regular tremolo technique, well done

  • When you get this piece you get it, not before. Anyone leaving a negative comment is sad. Post your performance and even then your still shit. Good Job. Remember practice does not make perfect it makes permanent.

  • you are a guitarman who i respect, i even had studied your "rumba". but the difference that you had tried to create on this piece is not successfull, i think.

  • Amazing!!!

  • @lolzylozz Why thank you. Actually, I deliberately left out the pull offs.

  • @hersoveela You shouldn't have, it makes the piece.

  • @lolzylozz perphaps give some more respect.

  • @lolzylozz you just said is disrespectful!!

  • @lolzylozz where is your version or performance of this song?

  • @SenorTucan95 Well, he's right you know. There are pull offs that are very hard to uh.....pull off in this piece. lolzylozz also does a very nice rendition of a Leo Brouwer piece which is considerably more difficult than this. No, I don't have a version of Recuerdos posted either.

  • @hueseph watching lolzlozz play was like watching a 10 year old struggle with 'simple man' in slow motion - LOVED his pro rasgeo technique too. SYKE, back to square one noobs

  • @SuperVkg Was that sarcasm? I think you are confused. lolzylolz has no rasgueo in his video. (Actually, it's not his video anyway). It's some other guy doing a Leo Brouwer piece. At any rate there are pull offs missing in this piece. If this were an RCM recital it would be an instant fail. I'm guessing that your are criticizing my videos. Well oh well. All I have uploaded are originals. There is no comparison. Mine are the only versions, so they are just as they are meant to be.

  • @hueseph yeah he has none in his video - it was why i pointed it out; just like sal has no pull offs in his...except id say a good sounding rasgeo is much more difficult to tame than a pull off, i mean come on.

and no, i wasnt talking about your videos, i was talking about lolzlozz - he plays just like his age, you can find a million like him on youtube. Young, Naive, and arrogant.

  • @SuperVkg and the song he plays does have rasgeo originally, is another reason why i pointed it out, just like lolz pointed out the lack of pull offs, well im pointing out the lack of rasgeo in his -- mr pro lolzz cant even compete in technique with sal here.

  • Just great. You're a guitar genius, did you know that?!!!

  • I am jelous!

Wish I could do triplets like that... eventually, I hope :)

    Thanks for shareing your music!

  • outstandning

what i wouldnt give to be able to play this

  • si señor bravoooo exelente tremolo!!

  • very bad timing, he plays notes early than they should be. But guitar sounds good.

  • @TheCaptainMemo with all due respect to Sal, I have to agree with you, the first parts poor timing is very noticeable, but a little before second half it gets much better. His tremolo is still very clean and even sounding, and I still have ways to go to play this as good as Sal. Overall - very nice job!

  • fantastico

  • only one thin this is clasical guitar not flamenco, anyway the song is amazing, congratulations, i have an asking asturias from isaac albeniz if is posible

  • muy bueno! mi apellido es Bonavia, muy parecido al tuyo :D

    Saludos desde Argentina...

  • Wonderful. I am a beginner and I am still looking for a begiinner flamenco guitar , is there such thing ? I am struggling since everything I find online is over 500. Any advice? Thank you

  • @followmesky Why not just buy a cheaper classical guitar to practice on like a Yamaha. You can put your own removable plastic scratch plate on with sticky tape.

  • @hersoveela

    Hello Mr. Sal

First off huge fan of your videos, you have helped me with my advancements (haha as small as they are!) like you would not believe. I just wanted to ask you a question regarding the one "followmesky" asked. How come Flamenco's are so much more expensive? From what I understand arent they made from cheaper, lower quality materials?

I am just confused about it. Thank you once more!

  • @arodfan18324 Your question is best directed at a luthier who makes flamenco guitars. or better still, one who makes both classical and flamenco guitars. I think your understanding that flamenco guitars are made from cheaper, low quality materials is flawed and misinformed. where did you get such an idea? Email a luthier and end you confusion forever..

  • @hersoveela

I figured I would ask you because you are very knowledgeable...But I have heard this just on random online postings. But being I dont believe everything I read on the internet I figured I would ask you.

Did not mean to offend, was asking out of lack of knowledge and curiosity

  • @arodfan18324 I am a curious person also. It fascinates me that the Internet is a source of all sorts of knowledge, some of which is clearly not to be trusted. But I am teachable and I always willing to converted to, and convinced of the truth if such a thing exists outside of my own imagination. I am not an expert in the area of making guitars which is why I suggested to ask a luthier. No offense intended or taken.

  • @followmesky I have been learning Flamenco on and off for 12 years, more off than on but that's another story. I use a classical guitar and have done since I first started learning. My advice would be the same as Sal's, get a cheaper classical and start there. No point buying expensive until you are well under way.

  • nice tremolo i liked it

  • You look like my uncle.

  • Artista!!!!!

  • Lovely!

  • your tremolo is good my friend and well balanced by your timing is off , i mean you are moving from one position to another faster than it should be , you are eating up some notation...

  • the beats of yr chords is not exactly correct

  • Hey Sal - excellent playing! I remember when you first got that guitar! 5* from me!

  • Excellent , very good, Sal

  • Only 4 and a half stars ? you got to be kidding ..... brilliant ... well done sir !

  • what tremolo move are you using?, classical or flamenco,

  • Can you explain the difference?

  • Comment removed

  • It's not important, he just play interesting, this's the first think of playing.

  • moto benne!!, parla italiano??

Bien

  • Isten tartson meg sokáig!

    köszönjük!

  • Beautiful! Thank you very much, I will use this to help me learn this piece. My tremolo will need to improve.

  • Outstanding! 5*****

  • beautiful!!!

  • great tremolo, so much better than mine

  • long live jack hargreaves

  • One word: Awesome! I'm sure Paco de Lucia is listening!

  • Very good. Thank you for sharing

  • sehr ausdrucksvoll einfach klasse, so, wie viele deiner Cover"s

  • Really good...I'm trying to learn this piece, and your video will be my tutor...thanks for posting.

  • Its like your playing two guitars at once...I admire your skills

  • How much was that guitar?

  • very nice. I really like it ;)

  • This is the best example of tremolo guitar i have heard on you tube and your version of Alhambra is a credit to the writer.

  • Comment removed

  • The time is not right especially in the first part

  • Comment removed

  • Shut up you bitch. I could NEVER do that. Could you? Show us how to play it "properly" on video then.

  • I don't know why the thumbs down. Soloist is correct. In the intro at least there has been a grave error in reading the score. If you are learning this piece from this version make sure you check the notes on the score. And check out Pepe too.

  • Sal, do you have any videos for improving right hand finger picking. As in using all fingers. cause my problem is my ring finger is really weak and with the other fingers i cant go much fast as you are doing or any other flamenco guitarist.

  • it's pretty good but review the music sheet and it would be parfect cuz your thecnique is good

  • truly amazing

  • a bit out of rhythm. otherwise perfect.

  • so powerfull.

  • Hi Sal, I admire and try to play your music as best I can; I'm no maestro. ..Sal can you tell me if it is yourself that has put together 'The Nylon Guitarist' on the net ?

  • I designed and maintain the nylon guitarist . com website. No one else is involved.

    Sal

  • Your tone is what i want :)

If you have time please make a video on how you stroke each string with your fingers. The sound of the guitar is amazing. Please if u have time, make a video on the right hand tutorial.

  • I have 2 tutorial videos that might help.

Do a search for these two videos

  • bravo!! 5*

  • a mental doctor

  • that's excellent Sal! have you tried this with a flamenco tremolo i,a,m,i?

  • Yes, but only for tremolo practice.

    Sal

  • He, now I know why my grandparents love it down under.

  • Very good performance, thanks!

  • i can play tremelo on the E string but the B string my fingers always gets stuck and hit the E string, any help on preventing that?

  • Curve your fingers around more, play with shorter nails and keep your fingers as close to the strings as possible.

    Sal

  • I'm very glad you can play this as well. I believe you. Can you show me in a video? I notice in your profile that you are now 23 years old. How many new songs have you learned in the eight years since you posted this comment?

    Sal

  • Hello!

I am trying to learn this song too, I wanna ask something maybe it is silly question but do you think i can play this song well with the help of your tremolo video plus with lots of practice?

  • Yes. Lots of practice is the key.

    Sal

  • Hi, I have just started learning guitar.. So far I have only read guitar for dummies. What are some good easy but entertaining songs to pratcice? I can play house of the rising sun and the first few stages of tico tico but I need interesting but simple songs. Any tips? Also I struggle to keep my thumb on the strings while fingering.. Do I have my hand in a bad position? Many thanks.. I love your playing style.. :-)

  • You say you... "struggle to keep your thumb on the strings while fingering"??...

If you are talking about the left hand. Warning!

My best advice is to get some lessons from a real teacher to sort the basics out. If you plan on playing a nylon string guitar exclusively like I do find a classical guitar teacher. If you play steel string acoustic, find a teacher who teaches this style. Guitar playing should be a pleasure, not a struggle. Happy playing.

    Sal

  • Personally, I think that as you grow up, you will earn it is better not to say anything...Sal is good and I respect his abilities. I will not comment on my abilities and it isn't fair to compare, what counts is the passion and enthusiasm to play and to learn. Play on Sal!!

  • When did u first buy your guitar?

  • I liked it. Thank you for posting. I'm shocked at how rude some people are. Nobody's forced to listen to you, after all. Let's make this world a better place! Love and peace. And good music such as this!

  • Hay Sal! very good. Excelent! Congratulations!

  • beautiful.i played along with you,tho my tremolo is 123,rather than 321.you are much easier to follow than those pros who write books.viva el arte.muchas gracias amigo...

  • And what about "La Ultima Cancion"?

Thats the best piece indeed:)Is it more difficult than requerdos??

  • wow you played it so nice! Really amazing! I like your version of Spanish Romance. Im learning it, nice tremolo skills..

Al Hambra is quite difficult, you play it good. Some slight errors but its very good :)

Keep up the good work! I like your videos! Thanks for posting!

  • you are actually amazing and i leaned romanzo from you unique playing abilities. one day i hope play guitar like you, i would consider you an amazing guitar player with superb talent.

    Ben

  • Me quedo con la Versión de jim greeninger, falta trabajar la parte superior, pero para el comun de la gente es bonito. cambiese la ropa :)

  • screw the people that talk about your playing man I wish i could have some of your technical skill!! But I need to ask about soloing are you good at Jazz Soloing??

  • Jazz soloing? I haven't tried it. I think not so good to keep up with professionals but maybe OK a fiddling around a bit.

    Sal

  • congratulations man you play it very beautiful, your guitar has a beautiful sound! i learned this song watching you playing.... you have amazing videos on you tube you are an excelent guitar player!

  • bien lo que el ritmo de la cancion no es el correcto, por lo demas esta currado en otros aspectos i ha fallado algunas notas

  • About a quarter past three in the afternoon I think.

    Sal

  • If you know that the opening is missing beats why are you posting the video? If you don't why are you offering advice?

  • paulcroft1944. Sorry. I have no idea what you mean by missing beats. Why am I posting the video? That's an easy one. Because I can. Why are you posting your comment. Same thing. Because you can. Why am I offering advice? Again, I have no idea what you mean (nor do I care too much), unless you quote the specific "advice" you are alluding to. In any case, the some answer applies. Because I can. Any more questions? By the way, why did you join YouTube? Ah. Don't tell me. Let me guess.

    Sal

  • 1. Try counting, out loud - "1 & 2 & 3 &" - to the way you play the opening. You'll find it impossible because you MISS BEATS!

    2. You seem caught between not caring and wanting a lot of questions answered. Had the playing not been by someone also offering advice I wouldn't have commented.

    3. I have been in touch with some great people and enjoyed some wonderful music through YouTube; was that your guess?

    4. "Can" doesn't always mean "should", and no, I don't have any more questions.

  • paulcroft1944. No more questions? Shame really. I was looking forward to exploring the deeper innuendos and ultimate philosophical meaning of the word "should", as opposed to "can", and how it applies to the world in which you live but I obviously don't. I have always been fascinated to learn more about the subjective origins of people's varying perceptions and belief systems. Oh Well! Never mind. If you no more questions, then I bid you a warm farewell. It's been nice talking to you.

    Sal

  • xever

    tambien vean luiguielserrano

  • It sounds good, however I must agree on Stevie159753's comment. I think you need to have more phrasing in your playing.

Also, did you learn classical guitar or flamenco? Your way of sitting with the guitar is not the classical style

  • I think I need lots of things I don't have. Thanks for adding phrasing to my wish list. In the meantime I will just play my guitar.

    Sal

  • Thanks Sal. Very enjoyable as always.

  • no offence on your playing, but maybe pay more attention to phrasing

  • I will have to consult my playing to see if it took offense to your comment. Somehow I doubt it.

    Sal

  • published his own "editorialized" editions of works by Sor and Tarrega and had some Bach interpretations that, according to plenty of today's classical guitar "elite", were pretty radical.

So, basically, rock on, Mr. Waldron. The world could use as much honest, beautiful music making as it can get, because that is most certainly what it all comes down to.

  • davidhandles Many thanks for this balanced and informative comment. Just a small correction if I may. I am not Jason Waldron. My name is Sal Bonavita. This video is a response to Jason's video... and vice versa. If you click on the link under my video which says, "This is a video response to Jason Waldron plays Recuerdos de la Alhambra" you can watch Jason's version of this piece.

    Sal

  • Well, since stalking youtube controversies about musical interpretation has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, I suppose I'll throw my two cents in (which I'm sure is worth less than two cents, anyway).

I think this is a fine interpretation and your tremolo is remarkably clean and even. Secondly, I think we can all just take a step back and remember that the "Maestro" himself, probably the most notoriously dogmatic guitar pedagogue this century, (cont'd)

  • r u persian and do u live in toronto???

  • No and no

  • I visited the Alhambra 4 years ago and your song

is so beautiful like the Alhambra! Amazing.

  • beautiful!

  • untouchable...

    grandmaster!

  • aaaaa Im out of any word to say....

    Fenomenalno

  • Dear hersoveela,

Your videos are marvelous and you really are a primo guitarist. These people complaining about you are only mindless vixens, there would be no point in every playing anything if we were to make it exactly how it was originally. If they want that, they can go listen to a recording or some other mindless rubbish, it takes much more to be able to play something with your own addition to it. Please keep making videos and ignoring these worthless musical puppets.

    z

  • wooow increible impresionante me encanto tu interpretacion

  • Thanx Master!

  • Hello Sal!

Jeeeezzusss. Should I stop coming here? It seems that you still attract ayatollahs. They kill my fun.

One guy made a very intelligent comment earlier by comparing interpretation of a famous piece of guitar and painting a classic like Van Gogh's sunflowers. The painter who recreates most faithfully a copy is the most achieved artist?

If I were around you, we would laugh so loud, and then have a hell of a jam.

OK, I'll keep coming back, your answers to fascism are always crispy!

  • неплохое упражнение для пальцев!

  • I agree

  • That's nice!

Wich tremolo do you play here?

  • Pami

  • what are the fingers to play?

  • Pami

  • Tárrega estaría muy complacido.

  • Mucho beuno

gracias i am not spanish sorry for my bad spanish

  • "i am not spanish sorry for my bad spanish"

That's OK. I'm not Spanish either.

    Thanks for your positive comment.

    Sal

  • My respect to you maestro!!!

  • I especially like your tempo, which is smooth and relaxed.

    Really enjoyable.

  • Sal - you are the master! thanks for sharing yr talent!

  • thanks for the sheet music

  • bravissimo da 1 a 10.... 10!!

  • bravo, bravo que linda obra!

  • very nice.

  • bravo maestro!!

    Saludos!!!

  • congratulations!

There are here professional actors as well but I liked Your performance

  • You don't see them because I locked them away in a dark cellar. I refuse to set them free because they will only go missing again.

    Sal

  • verry great man!..but one question...can i play this song on a acoustic guitar too?

  • Thank you. Why ask me? Try it and see for yourself.

    Sal

  • good!!!

  • God bless you...

for bringing so much pleasure to your fans

  • screw flamers. its better than i could do so im not complaining

  • lovely !

  • Lots of feeling in this great performance! Se me pone la piel de gallina. Bravo, maestro!

  • What a great performance!

  • I don't really care what anyone says or whatever...Recuerdos de la Alhambra(sp?)if you can play this song you are a very accomplished guitar player. Chet Atkins was one of the greatest guitar players in the world...he played this song and if anyone can play it even remotely like him...you have amazing talent...I can barely even play "Lagrima"!!!

  • amzing playing btw sal

    i love all your stuff

youtube would not be the same without you!

another 5 stars to my pal from down under :-P

  • Very competent. In fact this rather difficult piece sounds smooth and flowing here which is a real accomplishment. Thank you.

  • Hey Sal, im a big fan of yours and as a newly beginning flamenco student i'm very thankful for all the work you keep bringing. You're a brilliant artist and there are lots of jerkoffs here talking lots of nonsense. Please don't even value their comments by answering them. Save up the energy. Btw: when did you start playing the guitar?

  • 30 years on and off.

  • Yes master. I promise to practice hard so that I may earn your approval at the next master class. My humble apologies for not playing up to your exalted standards. By the way, where are YOUR videos.

    Sal

  • What is sad is using the word "should" when casually critiquing someone else's work. This indicates the commenter believes they possess some superior knowledge and also clearly demonstrates a patronizing attitude of "I am right and you are wrong". This is what lacks manners friend. If Insomniac1222 had read some of the other comments, he would have discovered I have no interest in the classical guitar standards of right and wrong and could have saved himself the bother.

  • i couldn't agree more - some people just dont have the right spirit of things. we are here to listen, learn, enjoy, and most importantly to encourage and support each other. arrogantly saying 'ur tremolo could use practice' is not doing any of these things.

insomniac1222, If hersoveela tells me to fix my hand position or whatever, i will listen to him because i can see he is amazing. if you tell me then you better have some evidence!

  • LOL....funny shit bro! :)
