About time they got the DLs onto the Murupara Express. My old man did a few of those trips years ago while working for Tasman Pulp and Paper. Generally had a DC and a DFT leading running the trip back in those days
Great videos, well done. That Tahuna S curve is a rippa. Shots some stills and video out there in November. But enjoy it while it lasts. Those pines will grow and block it one day. Tried to shoot from there a few years back but was useless as the trees were still there then but is great there now.
@MartyJM01 indeed, you had to go pretty high up the hill to get the entire train in...made the mistake of hitting the shutter button on the 5d hence the err gap where the video froze lol. security in the forest roads are quite high at the moment so cannot go roaming looking for good spots.. maybe wintertime.
Love the loggers on the Murapara branch. Good video, thanks. As has been noted somewhere else, shame about the horn. They could have chosen something more in keeping with a big loco.
Nice video, great to see them big log trains, hopefully less logging trucks on our too narrow roads.... Wish Kiwirail would change the DL's horns tho..!!
Changing the horns? I will have the ones that come off! I think they sound kind of cool.

They don't make as much noise as the DC DFT combos though unfortunately..

@HotForgeChaos yep, the ol DL are pretty fast on this section, quite alot faster than the dc dft combos.

@Rawrnz They need to take the horns off of the Matangi Units in Wellington and put them on the DLs..

@MartyJM01 i spose the one good thing about the DL horn is you dont get the henous frights when the LE whistles when your not expecting it lol.
