To developers. Ubisoft Romania has a culture to make game like this. I love all navy subjects. So i'd like to have game about Bismarck, HMS Hood and so on. For example it'd be great if you are captain of old little destroyer and then you get captain, admiral. With graphic and sounds like these it'll be great. So have a think about it.

I have played Every Silent Hunter Game made so far except for this one.. The Graphics look awesome though. Right now I have Silent hunter(s) 2, 3, and 4 in box and Still use them all, although using silent hunter 2 is a bit of a pain now days because the map, and other sections of the interface are fixed compared to the mobility available in 3 and 4. However, it is still nice to play a classic every once in a while.
I heard this game was bad but I refused to believe it so out of curiosity I downloaded a copy to see for myself. My God, the game sucks hard! The graphics are good except the engine is poorly optimized and chugs like a bitch on my 5870. Everything they took out completely destroys the simulation feel of the game. It's almost like they designed it with a console port in mind. There's nothing about this game that will take my from SH4. I can't believe I wasted bandwidth on this trash. Avoid.

Well... one can see that this Silent Hunter Game will even be MORE focused on action then on strategy. I mean... C'MON - The Kaleun happily stroles through the boat and then all for a sudden planes and destroyers show up? Those U-Boats had Deckcrews so things like those couldnt happen.
I've been playing sub sims since the days of Aces of the Deep. This does look action/arcade however I find it attractive. You'd rather be a skipper 70 years ago. I'd rather be part of a kick ass hollywood movie now.
I hate the fact that every character on that German u-boat is speaking English in the video.. It's a German vessel, so the sailors should be speaking German.. Bah..

please guys don't buy this game. you need a permanent internet connection to play the singleplayer and multiplayer. Your singleplayer profile is saved online and it's not about the illegal copies of the game, these greedy publishers just want to stop second hand games so they can earn more money.
@goofus, the US was reliant on British technology and tactics for anti submarine efforts around 1943. Had hitler focused on submarine production in the start of the war, Britain would have definetly fallen near the end of 1941. Occupied countries cannot share experience, technology, of the plain organization the Brits had at tracking subs
You are right, the British had been fighting the u- boat war since 1939 and then u-boats came over here in 42 and had field day, for a while any way. The u-352 wreak is about 25 miles from where i live. If Germany had not declared war on US who's knows how it would have come out.
Also, shiyboy4 is right. Instead of building the Bismarck and other battle wagons, they could have focused on starving the Britain with U-boats from the start of the war. The army wasn't ready for the war anyway. If Hitler waited till '45 when the fleet would have been completed, things would have been way different.
But yes, he did loose the war the very second he announced war to US and RU.
XXI didn't bring any new technologies to the submarine forces, except different way of thinking. It could have easily been available in the first half of the war. Besides, Me-262 was available in '43 and the decided it wasn't needed. We can argue what would have happened if they did that or that, but to say that XXI was a peace of junk is foolish.
@ Goofus5453: XXI was a true marvel of U-Boats, it Germans had them sooner it would definitely change the outcome of the war. The main problem with them was because they were built part inland with people who didn't build ships before and part in shipyards - to speed up the construction. Thus only 4 out of over 100 were after delivery sea ready. I suggest that you re-study history, especially HMS Norfolk and its encounter with U-2511...
in fact if hitler had focused more attention toward the u-boats toward as Durnitz had said germany woulda won the war, brittain woulda been starved into submission and U.S wouldnt have got any troops to england after entry. the Antartic wouldve been german controlled.

The graphics look horrible, shitty flames for when ships explode and fire shells, horrible American voices. Looks like a game purely for profit and not for pleasure.
They have designed the whole submarine inside. And this is action sim, not shitty crytech game, where is a corridor walking hack&slash, but oohhh awesome graphics u know.
They will add german voices for sure just like in SH3, this is only a trailer so that "Eine Americana!" can understand this.

I cant belive they already got videos on Silent Hunter V out already. I had put it out of my mind for a while now. Wonder if it will be like in this video where you can walk around throughout the U-boat or if it will be simmilar to SH IV and III. I also need to check the system requirements on it. Wonder how much more it requires than SH IV.
@Apocal43 Yep, I went to the forums and checked out the SHV forums. Ive been on the forums since SHIII and I learned alot. Sadly there is still no definate pc specs for min but I am thinking it will be the same min requirements as SHIV. Its basically the same game engine just redesigned and the devs said the game is more efficent than SHIV so it should run better on a lower spec system.
Let's hope this time UBISOFT releases a playable and stable game: when they launched SH4 on the market, it was a "paid beta", not a release, and they were also about to quit supporting it, even if it still had HUGE bugs and issues (VERY disappointing behavoir). Therefore, I think I'll wait several months before purchasing this SH5.
Cant wait for this one... would like to see other enemy subs and also communications between your sub and other ships (friend & foe) could really improve game play
What I want to see is sub vs sub fighting, possibly when both subs are underwater (yes I know it only happened once in World War 2, but it still makes for a very exciting scenario).
You wouldn't want to play it on console even if it did release on it. Too many shortcuts. Besides knowing the modding community of Silent Hunter, it will be easiest to enjoy the game on PC.
Sorry, Goofus5453, but I can´t agree with you. It´s true tjhat the USN subs had better crew acommodations, but they only were better in that (and fuel capacity and torpedoes, they were bigger that german).
The rest.. the german sub, in the Atlantic Battle, proved to be the most efficient as weapon (and they were designed and built for that)
And today, many subs has acommodation as the german II WW subs.

Well, the scenario was also totally different: on the other part, US only lost 52 subs throughout the whole WWII, while Germany lost several hundreds of its U-Boats. So, under a technological point of view, U-Boats could be more advanced, but if we consider the mere effectiveness, finding the "best submarine" fleet becomes much more difficult
Don't forget, submarines after WW2 were based off of the type XXI design. The U-Boats were very effective, however Doenitz sent most of them to their grave needlessly halfway through the war.

The American subs where better, at least the enlisted men had a mess room to eat in and showers to wash there ass.The US navy gave more thought to the crews welfeare, the germans made a good sub but the men had to live like animals.

I heard this game was bad but I refused to believe it so out of curiosity I downloaded a copy to see for myself. My God, the game sucks hard! The graphics are good except the engine is poorly optimized and chugs like a bitch on my 5870. Everything they took out completely destroys the simulation feel of the game. It's almost like they designed it with a console port in mind. There's nothing about this game that will take my from SH4. I can't believe I wasted bandwidth on this trash. Avoid.

Well... one can see that this Silent Hunter Game will even be MORE focused on action then on strategy. I mean... C'MON - The Kaleun happily stroles through the boat and then all for a sudden planes and destroyers show up? Those U-Boats had Deckcrews so things like those couldnt happen.

I've been playing sub sims since the days of Aces of the Deep. This does look action/arcade however I find it attractive. You'd rather be a skipper 70 years ago. I'd rather be part of a kick ass hollywood movie now.

please guys don't buy this game. you need a permanent internet connection to play the singleplayer and multiplayer. Your singleplayer profile is saved online and it's not about the illegal copies of the game, these greedy publishers just want to stop second hand games so they can earn more money.

@goofus, the US was reliant on British technology and tactics for anti submarine efforts around 1943. Had hitler focused on submarine production in the start of the war, Britain would have definetly fallen near the end of 1941. Occupied countries cannot share experience, technology, of the plain organization the Brits had at tracking subs

You are right, the British had been fighting the u- boat war since 1939 and then u-boats came over here in 42 and had field day, for a while any way. The u-352 wreak is about 25 miles from where i live. If Germany had not declared war on US who's knows how it would have come out.

Also, shiyboy4 is right. Instead of building the Bismarck and other battle wagons, they could have focused on starving the Britain with U-boats from the start of the war. The army wasn't ready for the war anyway. If Hitler waited till '45 when the fleet would have been completed, things would have been way different.
But yes, he did loose the war the very second he announced war to US and RU.

XXI didn't bring any new technologies to the submarine forces, except different way of thinking. It could have easily been available in the first half of the war. Besides, Me-262 was available in '43 and the decided it wasn't needed. We can argue what would have happened if they did that or that, but to say that XXI was a peace of junk is foolish.

@ Goofus5453: XXI was a true marvel of U-Boats, it Germans had them sooner it would definitely change the outcome of the war. The main problem with them was because they were built part inland with people who didn't build ships before and part in shipyards - to speed up the construction. Thus only 4 out of over 100 were after delivery sea ready. I suggest that you re-study history, especially HMS Norfolk and its encounter with U-2511...

u have to think outside that book, if he had conquered the Atlantic he could have sent more of his troops the the eastern front, and could have conqured Rusia. but because he had the western front to worry about, hes forces were split, and germany was surounded. and its when ur surounded, u dont have a chance.

IF is a very big word. Do you really think that with the anti- submarine forces that the Allies had from 1943 on that they could have made any difference? They would have had to sink ships faster then US shipyards could build them. If they had them in 1939 they would have had a chance, but they didn't so you can talk about the HMS Norfolk all you want, she was probably replaced before it got dark. Nice talking with you.

I cant belive they already got videos on Silent Hunter V out already. I had put it out of my mind for a while now. Wonder if it will be like in this video where you can walk around throughout the U-boat or if it will be simmilar to SH IV and III. I also need to check the system requirements on it. Wonder how much more it requires than SH IV.

@Apocal43 Yep, I went to the forums and checked out the SHV forums. Ive been on the forums since SHIII and I learned alot. Sadly there is still no definate pc specs for min but I am thinking it will be the same min requirements as SHIV. Its basically the same game engine just redesigned and the devs said the game is more efficent than SHIV so it should run better on a lower spec system.

Let's hope this time UBISOFT releases a playable and stable game: when they launched SH4 on the market, it was a "paid beta", not a release, and they were also about to quit supporting it, even if it still had HUGE bugs and issues (VERY disappointing behavoir). Therefore, I think I'll wait several months before purchasing this SH5.

You wouldn't want to play it on console even if it did release on it. Too many shortcuts. Besides knowing the modding community of Silent Hunter, it will be easiest to enjoy the game on PC.

Sorry, Goofus5453, but I can´t agree with you. It´s true tjhat the USN subs had better crew acommodations, but they only were better in that (and fuel capacity and torpedoes, they were bigger that german).
The rest.. the german sub, in the Atlantic Battle, proved to be the most efficient as weapon (and they were designed and built for that)
And today, many subs has acommodation as the german II WW subs.

Well, the scenario was also totally different: on the other part, US only lost 52 subs throughout the whole WWII, while Germany lost several hundreds of its U-Boats. So, under a technological point of view, U-Boats could be more advanced, but if we consider the mere effectiveness, finding the "best submarine" fleet becomes much more difficult

Don't forget, submarines after WW2 were based off of the type XXI design. The U-Boats were very effective, however Doenitz sent most of them to their grave needlessly halfway through the war.

The American subs where better, at least the enlisted men had a mess room to eat in and showers to wash there ass.The US navy gave more thought to the crews welfeare, the germans made a good sub but the men had to live like animals.
