@sixstringfretter i ready about it on wikipedia. lemmy has alwayshad the mic high because when they started, he didn't want to look at the audience because he was afraid hardly anyone would show up. he didn't want to see that.
Ah, Jay Leno...never has a man done so much with so little. I can't believe that guy has been sitting in Johnny Carson's hallowed chair for 20 years. Talk about mediocrity in action.
Lemmy made him look like the condescending kissass he is.
@RUSSxT just read 'White Line Fever' and the money shaking hands was about a bet for a fiver they made earlier that Motorhead never would play the Tonight Show..
@Love4SK who cares about how loud it is, i personally like music that is different and progresses over time not to mention that sounds good. not a 60 year old coot wearing a school boys uniform playing the same 3 chords over and over again... need i say more?
@mstrkrftjr I dont get why fellow fans of our genre always bicker and fight like old fucking women. Its rock 'n roll, at the roots it is all for the same purpose: to get a good shag, drunk as shit and have a good time. People who bicker and whine dont deserve to listen to it.
@moggy1231 You're right, and even if the interview time was limited, they should've been chatting about that (and metal.) Someone backstage wasn't doing their job when they introduced Jay and Lemmy.
The ear plugs were there so the audience that was old and feable and couldn't love rock 'n' roll could withstand the Guiness Book of World Records ""LOUDEST BAND EVER"". Live for Rock"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At 4:40 Lemmy asks Jay.."What do you think of it so far?' and dumb ass Jay says, "Doing good, doing good Lem." What a butt-chin dumb ass! Lemmy was refering to his music he just played. Jay needs to get his ears checked as well as his butt chin. What a douche he is..then asks "what kind of name is Lemmy?" STFU Jay! U should kiss Lemmy's feet cuz Your not worthy to have Motorhead on your show! Jay Lenno=douche bag!
if you read Lemmy's book, Lemmy liked Leno, said he was a very nice guy, and didn't care much for how he was treated on the Letterman show around the same time.
@KOSMICKEN09 Thanks for the info. I was not aware..I saw in a interview that after their appearance on Letterman their record sales dropped to a all time low!! They were selling zero! Most bands would have a increase in music sales after being on Letterman..not them! : i
@crlumberjack I know what your saying, in a way Philthy wasnt as good of a drummer but he sounded way better for Motorhead, Mikkey has that kinda new age sound, which is not Motorhead.....
I would have loved to have been there during this taping to see all the pussies who have never heard this type of music before get blasted by all those Marshall stacks.
@Keir316 What? I say get rid of Mikkey, get Animal-Taylor back, yes he's technically not as good as Mikkey, but if there is one true drummer for Motörhead, it's him. I say get Würzel back as well, his leadguitarplaying was the best. Phil was usually the rythm guy back then, with occational solo spots. I say get the 'Rock 'N' Roll' lineup back!!!
@BigDaveNeg Phil was fired when he didn't show up for a rehearsal or something, he had a fallout w. Lemmy around that time. He didn't quit drumming. He still drums! He has in recent years played with Overkill, worked on a project w. Joe Holmes of W.A.S.P. He has also worked with Mick Farren & The Deviants on several albums, the last being in 2009. In 2008 there were rumours of that Phil was dead, but this was untrue, when he appeared and joked about it on a 'classic albums' interview w. Lemmy.
@SilverTounge85 Come on man, knowing everything about the musician isn't what metal is all about. Just get your head out of Wikipedia, and just enjoy the music. Before it all dies out and is replaced by Rihanna and Justin Beiber clones. Which unfortunately I think may happen.
It's like the people who know all about sportsmans personal lives, why does it matter?
@shanustheanus Sorry! I hope I didn't reply to the wrong guy. There was this guy saying that Phil quit drumming after being fired from Motörhead, not sure if that was you. Just a big fan of Motörhead and then of course of Phil as well, and wanted to back up with some facts that he is still behind the drumkit somewere, just not in Motörhead (unfortunatly). I actually searched on wikipedia about Phil, credit to you were it¨'s due. ;) We should see the classic bands when they're still exsisting.
@SilverTounge85 Nah, I didn't say anything about Phil quitting drumming. I'm just a guy who thinks people should enjoy music, don't get me wrong, research stuff if you aren't sure, but in regards to the other guy simply assuming, never do that and say it as fact, because where will that end? In years to come will people believe Lemmy was the lead singer of Iron Maiden?
@SilverTounge85 mikkey suits the riffs in motörhead. Lemmy frequently asked mikkey to play with them for like five years before he engaged. His king diamond time is not to bad either... keep rocking!
@Keir316 Motorhead should only be a 3 piece...and they should all be filthy...you should be afraid to even touch pictures of them for fear of contamination
Holy crap-I have this on tape somewhere. Someone actually wrote into RIP or some magazine like that, asking if it's a sign of the apocalypse to see Lemmy with the secretary from Ferris Beuller on TV together.
@BallSackGames Stage fright would explain why he allways looks kinda drunk.
Look man, I'm not judging him or something. He's still a Metal God. But if you look in front of how many people he sometimes performs, stage fright would be a pretty good explaination.
@BallSackGames No, he prefers his mic stand up high, because he's tall but it's his natural stance, Since he stands and plays like that, if he had to sing down, it would effect his 'personal stature', in other words, he's more comfortable singing up then with his head tilted down. It's nothing to do with stage fright!
@MetallicBill ---He's not that tall...I'm 6 foot even, and when I met him, he was a good three inches (8cm) shorter than me, in boots. As for the mic stand, your guess is as good as mine.
@Stifsim6 I have seen the band live, I think he's tall still, from my memory, but he prefers having the stand (mic) above him, as it's always the case! haha
@studmeow Still sounds like rumor. Hopefully someone could ask him and he's set the record straight... I would ask him, being a long time fan, I don't think I'd be too intimidated! haha
@MetallicBill he said in an interview a while ago (in metal hammer magazine i think) that its because he didn't like looking at the audience in the beginning, when there would only be a few people there to see them, almost like stage fright
@username125418 We all can appreciate you getting to the bottom of it for us, I think that's a reasonable answer, but you see Lemmy on camera over the years, and in print, hard to imagine him nervous ever! hahaha Remember the scene where he's pelted on stage and stops the show, tells the mofo to meet him outside for a proper arse kicking!
@MetallicBill i doubt he gets much stage fright now, but its become "him" i guess, its just the way he does it now and its as recognisable as the man himself.
Like Motorhead or not, they're tight and deliver the product they advertise. And their not as shallow as many might suspect a hardcore band to be. There is occasional depth and humor in Motorhead songs. Straightforward rock and roll.
@chickenboy49 Ozzy's version came out first. As far as who covered who, Ozzy and Lemmy wrote the song together, so the correct answer is neither. Each did their own interpretation of the song.
Damn Rockin! Been into Motorhead since On Parole!! (Anyone remember early Motorhead)? First seen Motorhead live in Glasgow Apollo. Iron Fist tour.... Iron Fist was not a great Motorhead album... But that didn't matter, cos every Motorhead live gig is superb!!!! All they do is 100% Rock n Roll. In the Book of Rock it will be CARVED IN STONE! ("See You on the Other Side" is a great song written by Ozzy, Zakk Wylde and Lemmy! From Ozzmosis album. Worth checkin out). Lemmy - Son Of A Preacher Man
@colmhearne Wurzel was a natural born guitarrist for Motorhead, fit perfectly.... and Phil Campbell is still on board, who knew?.....Wonder why did Wurzel left the group...?
this is the first time i've seen this, saw 'em on letterman when they did 1916. dave was an ass with 'em! pissed me off, showed no respect at all, anounced the album title as motorhead. lemmy didn't seem thrilled to be there anyway. i don't generally like leno very much but at least he didn't make them look like fools and hed lemmy up to talk without dissing him. i'm glad i got to see this!

@colmhearne Wurzel was fired for fucking up onstage too much.

this is the first time i've seen this, saw 'em on letterman when they did 1916. dave was an ass with 'em! pissed me off, showed no respect at all, anounced the album title as motorhead. lemmy didn't seem thrilled to be there anyway. i don't generally like leno very much but at least he didn't make them look like fools and hed lemmy up to talk without dissing him. i'm glad i got to see this!
