I bought Fr. Corapi's The Catechism of the Catholic Church DVDs. His talk about confession helped me quit smoking. Fr. Corapi said that even smoking (by definition of what a mortal sin is - grave matter (smoking kills), full knowledge ("the surgeon general says ..."), full consent (how many times do you smoke in a day?) is a mortal sin. Whoever commits sin, becomes a slave to sin ! With the help of a priest friend who offered mass for me, i was freed from the chain of smoking !

The baby in the mothers womb is not an agressor who is out to kill the mother but a completely helpless innocent person completely dependent on the mother for their survival. In Abortion it is the mother/doctor who is the agressor!
There is not one case where in the event of a complication in the pregnancy the deliberate targeting and killing of the baby saves the life of the mother. the Church does not support Abortions in cases of complications.
It is the doctors duty to care and protect both mother and baby. If the baby dies as a result of treatment to save the mother (principal of double effect) that is not an Abortion.

Three years ago the 44 yr-old son of a friend of mine died and I was asked to help clean out his things and give his clothes to the poor, etc. In his garage I came across two large caches of pornographic magazines. I understand Jesus has died for all in the sense that Jesus died for those who love and do His will. Many people think Jesus died for all regardless if they believe in him or not. I have great respect and awe for the Eucharist, for this reason I never receive Him with mortal sin in my heart. The majority of Catholics today receive the Eucharist unworthily because they are badly catechized. My faith will never be taken by Satan, I love God too much.
In terms of prayer, I believe it can help to a certain degree when it comes to converting others to Christ. Many Bishops, priests and laity know the teachings of the Church and willfully deny parts of it. This is where our free will can get us in trouble.
God cannot make anybody love Him, it must come from within and not from without.

Return to the church? Well, if you go to the Tridentine then you'll find plenty of it. Although I would avoid any independant, SSPV or SSPX chapels. They offer the Tridentine but they are not recognized by Rome.
If you read The Wanderer, the conservative catholic newspaper, you may find that the SSPX group has been reunited with the church. I know there have been many articles regarding the attempt to reconcile. Need to check to see if it has taken place
I am well aware of those. Note those are only articles in a catholic periodical. The Bishops of the SSPX are in communion with Rome, but they have no cannocial status. The SSPX is own its way to full communion. Their is a Rosary Novena even those in the quote "Novus Ordo Church" are taking part in.

The Church is not supposed to be about being "in touch" with any century - rather we should be in touch with the Truth which is Christ Jesus.
We should adapt how we convey the truth so that it might be better understood - modern translations and so forth, but we DARE not change the substance, the essence of truth.

I bought Fr. Corapi's The Catechism of the Catholic Church DVDs. His talk about confession helped me quit smoking. Fr. Corapi said that even smoking (by definition of what a mortal sin is - grave matter (smoking kills), full knowledge ("the surgeon general says ..."), full consent (how many times do you smoke in a day?) is a mortal sin. Whoever commits sin, becomes a slave to sin ! With the help of a priest friend who offered mass for me, i was freed from the chain of smoking !

Many of us wander from parish to parish for daily Mass, avoiding the really bad ones. I believe you, abortion is totaly wrong... except in the case if the birth of the baby could be fatal to the mother... in that case it could be deemed self defense if the mother so chose to save her life, but in that case it is her choice, but obviously only if the fatality is 100%. 2263-2265 in the CCC does not refer to Abortion but defence against an agressor e.g. in war or if someone invading one house hold threatens the life of oneself and or their children or spouse.
The baby in the mothers womb is not an agressor who is out to kill the mother but a completely helpless innocent person completely dependent on the mother for their survival. In Abortion it is the mother/doctor who is the agressor!

There is not one case where in the event of a complication in the pregnancy the deliberate targeting and killing of the baby saves the life of the mother. the Church does not support Abortions in cases of complications.
It is the doctors duty to care and protect both mother and baby. If the baby dies as a result of treatment to save the mother (principal of double effect) that is not an Abortion.

I know people who have had abortions and they are shunned from the church and its members. Where's the love of neighbor there? It wasnt easy for them to make this terrible choice, it was the most heart-wrenching moment in their lives. It haunts them even today, i know this to be true. Three years ago the 44 yr-old son of a friend of mine died and I was asked to help clean out his things and give his clothes to the poor, etc. In his garage I came across two large caches of pornographic magazines. I can't tell you how satisfying it was to destroy that smut. I didn't just throw it in the trash, I destroyed it, and threw the remains in the trash. It felt so good to do so.

I understand Jesus has died for all in the sense that Jesus died for those who love and do His will. Many people think Jesus died for all regardless if they believe in him or not. I have great respect and awe for the Eucharist, for this reason I never receive Him with mortal sin in my heart. The majority of Catholics today receive the Eucharist unworthily because they are badly catechized. My faith will never be taken by Satan, I love God too much.

In terms of prayer, I believe it can help to a certain degree when it comes to converting others to Christ. Many Bishops, priests and laity know the teachings of the Church and willfully deny parts of it. This is where our free will can get us in trouble.
God cannot make anybody love Him, it must come from within and not from without.
Free will is a gift and some of us use it the wrong way. Prayer to me is most useful when I pray for those who have died or are ill. I have seen miracles.

Just yesterday I stormed out of a local Catholic Church with my children after hearing some disturbing words. The Church is called All Saints in Hayward California.
During the prayers of the faithful, the man behind the microphone said, "To all those with gender issues and sexual orientation, may you have courage and stand up with dignity."
Some Parishes are so corrupt in their thinking. They are confusing Catholics. But I'm not one to sit in the pew like a dead fish and rot.

So why did you reject God in that moment? & leave the holy Mass before the Conceration? the evil one works in many ways. He stopped you receiving Jesus that day. I say this because like you i did that too. In confession when confessing why i had stopped going to Mass a very holy priest said to me - i hear you but why did you reject Jesus? I repeated & he said -i heard you but why did you reject Jesus? I started crying when i realised what i had done.I thank God every day for that holy priest.

I was not in the right mind set to receive Jesus and was too upset. The evil one has opened my eyes to the fact that the Church is slowly decaying from the inside.
Your priest makes a good point. I have not stopped attending Mass in the last 15 years. I go to Mass for only one reason and that is the Eucharist. but like I said, I was not in the right mind set.

Jesus loves you no matter what, he already did all the work when He died on the Cross for you and me. All we need to do is go to Him and receive Him. I disagree, the Church is not decaying from the inside. The church is the people. yes, evil is always at work trying to weaken & take God from u & me. But it can only be taken if we each allow it. Prayer in that moment for that man, & to help u, would have been better. God would have given you peace to received Jesus. God Bless & may He be with u.

Is Christ's message totally evading you? Would you have been one of the ones who said, "Look at him, he who eats and drinks with prostitutes and tax collectors!"? Those people who practice homosexuality on purpose do not need my prayer to stand firm in their belief that what they are doing is right.
The correct prayer should be for the conversion of homosexuals. Homosexuality is not to be nurtured, it is to be hated since it is a sin.
We don't pray for murderers to be proud of their actions. We are supposed to pray for conversion out of sinfulness.
But what can I say, many Catholics have fallen astray and are on a wide path to destruction.

Indeed it is so encouraging to listen to real men like Fr.Corapi and Fr. Mitch than those many spineless liberals who have stopped preaching the cross and instead give people a cosy reformers type eutopia.
I am not a member of SSPX nor do I support them but I do sympathise with some of their complaints which seem justified.

Abortion is a very important issue but who is searching for the corruptiion in the "social justice" movement within the church? Our donations are going to leftist groups through the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. They can use our own donations to make our church irrelevant. ACORN was just dropped this year because of the embezzlement issue but other groups are continuing to receive grants.

The worrying aspect of some of our priests is that they are infected with liberalism/modernism and come across as Protestant ministers at times.
Fr.Corapi and many like him still have the courage and the faculty to preach Catholic doctrines as they should be preached.
Too many are commiting their ministry to telling their congregations want they want to hear and not what they should hear.

I Pray your right! Some of us are a bit sensitive to holiness and long to find it in others, more so our priest, It's a hard thing to take when we don't find it.

Return to the church? Well, if you go to the Tridentine then you'll find plenty of it. Although I would avoid any independant, SSPV or SSPX chapels. They offer the Tridentine but they are not recognized by Rome.

If you read The Wanderer, the conservative catholic newspaper, you may find that the SSPX group has been reunited with the church. I know there have been many articles regarding the attempt to reconcile. Need to check to see if it has taken place

I am well aware of those. Note those are only articles in a catholic periodical. The Bishops of the SSPX are in communion with Rome, but they have no cannocial status. The SSPX is own its way to full communion. Their is a Rosary Novena even those in the quote "Novus Ordo Church" are taking part in.

Humanae Vitae is the encyclical that made all papal encyclicals irrelevant in the eyes of most catholics. prior to that, catholics adhered to all encyclicals to the letter. Paul VI was the most out of touch pope of the 20th century. he undid all that John XXIII tried to accomplish. John XXIII tried to make the Catholic Church relevant in the eyes of ALL of the world. Paul VI succeeded in making encyclicals a joke.

The Church is not supposed to be about being "in touch" with any century - rather we should be in touch with the Truth which is Christ Jesus.
We should adapt how we convey the truth so that it might be better understood - modern translations and so forth, but we DARE not change the substance, the essence of truth.
Humanae Vitae is a challenging Encyclical, but it isn't a joke.
We should care more about being relevant in the eyes of Jesus Christ rather than the eyes of the world.

Mass attendance is less then 20 percent in Europe, with the Novus Ordo Mass. They are not counting the 1,000,000 European faithful who attend the Tridentine Latin Mass weekly. Also, "how can we bring them back"? Well, the wider use of the Tridentine Latin Mass in America (which is happening) will do just that.
