@fullredplatinum definitely "polyester" and "female trouble", but probably not "desperate living" and "multiple maniacs". okay maybe desperate living too. in all seriousness, i wouldn't care to be in "pecker" or "hairspray". i think the best films were the ones made in the 70's.
Thank you for posting this footage about Divine. In Holland there is no television material or what so ever...In our so called "Underground"dance scene, he was very well known.
i wish i was older when divine was performing, but no i was stuck with my mother' and her evil ways. and i certainly don't miss her and try hard not to think of her rotting in hell
Divine died the night before he was due to record a guest appearance ( as "UNCLE OTTO") on "MARRIED...WITH CHILDREN". His body was discovered by his manager Bernard Jay. Divine was in serious debt with tax, and in a creepy prophecy had declared only the previous mornining he would find his own way to escape his debts.
It is not unrealistic to say that Divine died of anything at all... AIDS? Maybe... certainly many conditions are possibly complicated by HIV related illness... Drug Overdose? Maybe... certainly Divine was no prude on recreational substance use... Natural causes? Maybe... what's unnatural about dying?
John Waters' films are delightfully bad. This talk show, on the other hand? Just plain BAD. Who is the guy, and why did anyone ever put him on tv? It's an injustice that someone like Divine would ever grace the same stage as him, or be seen on this terrible show.
@Sheldonwh oh, the interviewer,Shawn Thompson played Cornie Collins, the dance show host on Hairspray. He's totally inept. I cringed when he asked about Desparate Living--a*hole...Divine was pretty good about rebounding that stupid querie...
@TheBlueRose2008 I knew I'd seen that guy somewhere before. His hair is incredibly 80s, isn't it? It's probably the only reason he got hired! LOL Yes, Divine rebounded from it without making him look like a even bigger fool. Then he followed it up with another mistake, asking if he'd been in Europe doing his own show. He was doing someone else's show! Get your facts straight, you idiot. LOL
@BeerAndLoafingInSF : I think you have to be careful just how you measure success. Personally, if the only movie he ever made was "Female Trouble" he would still have been a runaway success among those people who matter. The fringe was his element. The fringe loved him in a sincere way that I don't think the mainstream ever could. I never tire of watching those movies that he *did* get to make. Especially the early ones.
@scumgod13 Divine had a condition called sleep apnea. He died in his sleep the day before he was supposed to film an episode of "Married... with Children."
yes im wrong, but so are you :-) he died of enlarged heart, and he had just he auditioned for a part in the Fox network's television series Married... with Children
@pladers You're right. According to his death reports, he officially died of heart failure. He did, however, have sleep apnea. I believe they originally thought that caused his death. It's not what killed him, though.
@BeerAndLoafingInSF ... i am a huge fan...divine, miss edie, n waters. i have all the classics on dvd, and still enjoying showing them to are closed minded, always fun. i knew edie well, i see waters around town sometimes. no one better then divine!!!

Divine: he could tell the crowd/audience he was faced with. Not in-your-face; had some fun with them, and he worked his magic.
Uncle Otto: wish we could have seen him in 'Married with Children'.
