Switched from PC to Mac because I want to buy more futuristic stuff. The only reason I had a PC was because I used to hack and used a IHD Linux Distro via Windows 7 to do it. But now that I don't hack no more. I prefer to live the high life and hope for the future. Apple comes the closest. :)

@noogai8 No, I dispise the CoD games since the first, they're nothing more than a cash in and play exactly the same with shinier graphics than the last. I hate consoles, my point was that there's hardly anything coming to PC/Mac that's worth caring about, the focus is on the consoles for the vast majority of developers. Blizzard and Valve are the only two I can think of who make mainstream titles for the PC/Mac before console (if at all in some cases). PC gaming has become a niche market.

@MiKill93 why are mercedes more expensive than toyotas? macs now use ddr3 RAm wich is pretty expensive compared to DDR2 that 98% of PC use. its a company that since it started was never cheap so why be an average joe and sell cheap products. build quality, great OS, style, mostly just a name brand but i enjoy my 14 month old macbook even if a cheaper pc has SD slot etc.. its all about choice ;)
I love the Mercedes/Toyota analogy because Toyota has the best reliability record and Mercedes makes pleasing but completely overrated and unreliable products that are expensive to fix. If you want quality go with Asus, Lenovo, Sony, or Toshiba.
@gcrav lol i own a MacBook and i had a VAiO both have great quality & are beautiful (reason i like sony's more than any other PC), my mom and half of my classmates have toshibas (95% of those were terrible reliablility wise). i like macs but i think apple should give a little more for the price ( basic stuff like SD slot, more USB slots, more upgradability options) but like i said in the car analogy most companys build up a name and get soft along the way, hope apple changes this for their sake.
yeah Toyota is good good half of there product line is on recall due to faulty break and accelerator pedals lol. I'll stick with my Mercedes any day. I will admit, Mercedes between 1990-2004 sucked, but they are better now

Im going to give you advice. Don't use bootcamp on your internal hard drive! get an external HD because you will end up getting dead spots in your HD disc. If you use an external HD it is better for your computer.
Because of the reader going back and forth on the disc... when you have two OSs working on one disc, then they are partitioned on separate parts of the HD. so eventually the back and forth movement over the disc will cause dead cells in it.
I understand what your saying, but my cousin did the bootcamp and some files on his computer, when trying to open them, said "File Not Found" or "Corrupt File." My brothers a computer tech and took a look at his computer and found that the reader destroyed parts of the hd, and he recommended that you either put Windows on an external drive or a flash drive to avoid damaging the disc.

if its treu what you said about the specs the only think I can say is that you did a good buy but probebly you choose the hardware by you're own (thats most time better) but for people who don't have the knowlege for doing that and still want a powerfull laptop for desing stuff I recommend a mac..
Well, no not really. I got a laptop with better specs than a macbook for less than a macbook. And no I didn't build it myself and if I did I would've got it for around 800-900.
I want to point out one thing....If Mac is so much better, why does it have to emulate Windows do run half of it's useful programs? And, if it's so much better....why doesn't a windows OS emulate Mac OS? No, I'm not really wrong about this. In the history of home-based computing, Windows has had a longer run at ruling the roost. You cannot argue the fact that Microsoft has eclipsed Apple Mac's given the timeline. They went the direction of trying to put a computer in every home by lowering the price of Windows-based computers. I know this is old, but your not right either. Microsoft doesn't own 1/3 of Apple... They did when they owned $150million of Apple stocks but, they only held onto them for five years. So all in all it was in 2002 that Microsoft sold the stocks. But to folkrockr, He is right about Apple using better quality. And Apple stole the OS idea from Xerox, then Jobs and Gates got together to build the Windows OS which wasn't originally going to be called Windows. And Mac OS was out 1 1/2 years earlier.

Sorry, I just read what CrappyImagination wrote. But he's not entirely right. MS didn't steal it... it was adopted my Microsoft from Jobs and Gates working together. It was a joint decision.

Your right about them working together at Apple. But Jobs and gates ended their feud in 2003. There was a whole show on it. I believe it to be here on youtube.
There were several companies working on mouse-based GUIs for DOS and Unix in the early to mid 80s. Nobody owned the idea. There was one GUI product for DOS, I think it was called SoftDesq or something, released before Windows was developed.
Gates never worked for Apple. Apple did share some GUI features with Microsoft so Microsoft could develop applications for Mac, which was in desperate need of applications better than what Apple was producing at the time.
NoONE (well informed on the issue) has argued that Macs do not get viruses. They DO, but the share ratio of PC viruses to Mac is in the neighborhood of 1000:1 ( of course this is not a solid number ). The "proven" statement you made - this is not quantum physics. All computers ( macs & pc's) are machines running software (firmware, etc.), and all software has backdoors. Therefore NO computers could ever be safe from anything or anyone (at least in present).

did you know the graphics card that comes with the £2000 mac pro only costs £45 (which is still too much for that card) the case although admittedly quite pretty is merely meh, how many people look at your case? (unless your at a lan party, and if you are and you have a mac you'll be laughed at because macs cant play games) realy in total allthough macslook pretty they should cost at most half the price also the mac os sucks, not being able to run exe files, why? and not all pc'slook bad!

That's absolutely not true. There is no Windows freeware that does what iLife and iWork do. You have to pay for shareware that won't come close to iLife. Windows Movie Maker versus iMovie? Oh boy! Need I say more?

If say, I want to buy a 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 duo 17-inch widescreen 4gb ram 320gb harddrive NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB laptop. Maybe it's more expensive because it's not crap and might actually last more than 4 years. Macs are made to last more than 10 years without slowing down that's one reason it can be a little more pricey. Like I said before, Macs will last longer! And IMO they have the software I need for what I do, (video editor), not really something I can do really well with Movie Maker. I need a good computer, when I look for computers I look for them at the top of my budget because I'm not worried about finding a good deal, I get the computer that is worth the money I put into it.
Like I said, I don't want to have a computer for 500 years because IT GETS OLD. Well yes there are plenty of software for Windows too if you haven't noticed. Probably not. I don't use moviemaker for editing, most of the time I use premiere. I need the best computer I can get. I make music, edit movies/pictures and make 3d models/animations etc, + I can play all games I want and It's cheaper than mac :) The mac interface pretty much is a ripoff off the AmigaOS4 too.
if youre new to computing macs are great. i am not new to it. id buy rather two powerful 13" notebooks with dedicated graphics and 4gb ddr2 then a weak macbook with "friendly" software... for the same money.
Everyone knows a Mac will be more realible in the long run for a Civillian use. But realise how Militaries, Huge companies, governments all use PC's, this is because there easier to buy and run for multi purpose jobs, they also acoomodate for much bigger scaled usage i.e militaries using 2 million plus PC's. Another thing, everyone and anyone can go up to a pc, and instantly know how to use one. A Mac takes a bit of getting used to.

well, i got mw2 for pc first, then after a while, i got it for my ps3 too.
I was disappointed that it was so bad graphics on the ps3, even though i got an hdmi cable, it still was better on the pc.
And are you able to play starcraft2 on the consoles?
Also, what does the ps3 and 360 got to do with mac NOT being a gaming thingy but rather a very pricy thing?

Im going to give you advice. Don't use bootcamp on your internal hard drive! get an external HD because you will end up getting dead spots in your HD disc. If you use an external HD it is better for your computer.

Because of the reader going back and forth on the disc... when you have two OSs working on one disc, then they are partitioned on separate parts of the HD. so eventually the back and forth movement over the disc will cause dead cells in it.

I understand what your saying, but my cousin did the bootcamp and some files on his computer, when trying to open them, said "File Not Found" or "Corrupt File." My brothers a computer tech and took a look at his computer and found that the reader destroyed parts of the hd, and he recommended that you either put Windows on an external drive or a flash drive to avoid damaging the disc.

I want to point out one thing....If Mac is so much better, why does it have to emulate Windows do run half of it's useful programs? And, if it's so much better....why doesn't a windows OS emulate Mac OS? Aside from windows being a better OS, the hardware for mac comes at a "sex appeal premium"; the hardware in a $800 PC costs $2000 for a mac with identical hardware. Apple got iPods, Phones, and amazing customer support right....but they really aren't too good with PC's.

No, I'm not really wrong about this. In the history of home-based computing, Windows has had a longer run at ruling the roost. You cannot argue the fact that Microsoft has eclipsed Apple Mac's given the timeline. They went the direction of trying to put a computer in every home by lowering the price of Windows-based computers. Apple took the road of quality, thus a higher price, therefore not as affordable for the average consumer.

I know this is old, but your not right either. Microsoft doesn't own 1/3 of Apple... They did when they owned $150million of Apple stocks but, they only held onto them for five years. So all in all it was in 2002 that Microsoft sold the stocks. But to folkrockr, He is right about Apple using better quality. And Apple stole the OS idea from Xerox, then Jobs and Gates got together to build the Windows OS which wasn't originally going to be called Windows. And Mac OS was out 1 1/2 years earlier.

I said Apple stole the GUI from Xerox, and just in case you didn't know Jobs teamed up with Gates to create the GUI for Windows. But, as has been recorded... Look at all the features you get on Windows. Then look at each date that those features were introduced. Then look at all the features for Mac OS. Then look at the dates when they were introduced. Apple beats MS to the punch by 2 years almost every time.

There were several companies working on mouse-based GUIs for DOS and Unix in the early to mid 80s. Nobody owned the idea. There was one GUI product for DOS, I think it was called SoftDesq or something, released before Windows was developed.
Gates never worked for Apple. Apple did share some GUI features with Microsoft so Microsoft could develop applications for Mac, which was in desperate need of applications better than what Apple was producing at the time.

NoONE (well informed on the issue) has argued that Macs do not get viruses. They DO, but the share ratio of PC viruses to Mac is in the neighborhood of 1000:1 ( of course this is not a solid number ). The "proven" statement you made - this is not quantum physics. All computers ( macs & pc's) are machines running software (firmware, etc.), and all software has backdoors. Therefore NO computers could ever be safe from anything or anyone (at least in present).

did you know the graphics card that comes with the £2000 mac pro only costs £45 (which is still too much for that card) the case although admittedly quite pretty is merely meh, how many people look at your case? There will always be morons that bash other hardware without ever trying it, we know what's good, I've been a long time PC user like yourself, and switching to Mac was the best thing I ever did. #3 when bugs are found, they are fixed for free via service packs (these free fixes last well after the OS is off the market, look at win 98)

If say, I want to buy a 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 duo 17-inch widescreen 4gb ram 320gb harddrive NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB laptop. Maybe it's more expensive because it's not crap and might actually last more than 4 years. Macs are made to last more than 10 years without slowing down that's one reason it can be a little more pricey. Another reason is Mac doesn't release their OS and immediately start working on the next OS, they make improvements until it's perfect. THEN they start to work on the next OS.
Also, all u little PC fanboys try to take shots at MAC by saying you can't right click YOU CAN RIGHT CLICK.

Like I said, I don't want to have a computer for 500 years because IT GETS OLD. Well yes there are plenty of software for Windows too if you haven't noticed. Probably not. I don't use moviemaker for editing, most of the time I use premiere. I need the best computer I can get. I make music, edit movies/pictures and make 3d models/animations etc, + I can play all games I want and It's cheaper than mac :) The mac interface pretty much is a ripoff off the AmigaOS4 too.

I will never buy a OEM machine but Mac's are seriously overpriced.
Hardly anyone can afford to spend over a $1000 on a computer.
My gaming rig I built running 4gb of RAM, and a 9800gt only cost me $465.
Mac would be amazing if the Mac OS was realsed for whatever hardware people wished to run it on(even though that's why it crashes rarely).
It's bad enough having one commercial OS ruling the industry but imagine having 1 OS and 1 computer company that would be hell.
But there's always Linux.

Everyone knows a Mac will be more realible in the long run for a Civillian use. But realise how Militaries, Huge companies, governments all use PC's, this is because there easier to buy and run for multi purpose jobs, they also acoomodate for much bigger scaled usage i.e militaries using 2 million plus PC's. Another thing, everyone and anyone can go up to a pc, and instantly know how to use one. A Mac takes a bit of getting used to.
