    creepy-awesome-addicting... :)

  • shankill butchers will rise again! for god and ulster! hoooraaa

  • Sparkle Pony!!!!

  • biggest load of sh@

  • What a beautifully, dangerously atmospheric song...

  • english fags

  • @frogman249 are you talking about the decemberists? colin meloy, the lead singer, is from montana and the other members are from my hometown portland, or

  • Comment removed

  • I'm pretty sure the Decemberists aren't supporting the Shankill Butchers by playing a song about them, they're just telling a story. It gives you chills, just as the actions of Lenny Murphy and his gang of blood-thirsty beast-men did.

  • Shankill Butchers R.I.P FTP & I.R.A CF. Ulster No.1

  • Oh boohoo. They slaughtered catholics. You can't do anything about it because they're already dead, so suck it up and go support Jack because he slaughtered prostitutes, freaking Jesus freaks.

  • @Burntshmallow It's not cool to kill anyone, regardless of religion.

    Freaking intolerant assholes.

  • @captainironears They sing like that on purpose smartass. And she stole it from them.

  • Sarah Jarosz did it better. Sorry. Lol

  • @captainironears The Shankill Butchers are officially, out to get YOU. :P

    The Decemberists > everything else

  • I found out about this song from a creeper singing it in an alley... I asked the song title, and he told me it... oh btw were best friends now >:D

  • I looked up the Shankhill butchers, expecting some obscure grisly serial killer pair. I didn't think the reality could be more disturbing, but it most certainly is.

  • Terrifying!

  • A Protestant can't even turn their head around here without a slim jim, looking to see what they are looking at

  • Props to the IRA for putting twenty rounds into this gangs leader.

  • @maneggl terrible men doing terrible things to terrible people.....yeah props to that

  • ring a ring a rosie was much more poignat and infinately more effective...its still sung by unsuspecting generations of 6 year olds whose innocence make it all the more chilling....this is just bandwagon jumping exploitative nonesense..... oh and krassSucks?...hardly likely they will visit anyone cos they all been shafted one by one by the decent element in the protestant community

  • Big talk on youtube from catholics and ex-pats. You'd shit yourself if you met one. I'm not saying what they did was right but fuck me, the entertainment value alone is enough to make you smile (:

  • A product of thier time - they fought terror with terror and defended thier own people. Boo hoo..

  • @andy7666 Whilst only on this page for the music, after discovering the song after watching the tv documentory on the shankill butchers. I find your comments "they defended their own people" quite comical considering that they were betrayed by their very own people, who colluded with the IRA to enact the execution of lenny murphy on the very same streets he regarded as his home turf.

  • @andy7666 defended people by slaughtering innocents? Thats just plain and simple murderers mate. Even the uvf helped the ira with their leaders location cos they thought they were sick savages too.

  • Thank you for uploading this i love this song, Thank you so much. =D

  • bogeyman*, inhuman and beyond our understanding. The song suggests they have lost every shred of humanity and no one understands why, definitely not making light of the atrocities they performed.

  • I think a lot of people are missing that this song is entirely against their actions, it demonizes the Shankill Butchers beyond being even considered human. It compares them to creatures such as a bogey

  • Stop being assholes.

This is a song. Songs tell stories. The Shankhill Butchers is a part of history. They're telling that story of history. If you complain about this song, you're complaining about any song that was ever about war, violence, rape, anything. Ever. So basically all the songs that were ever about anything meaningful.

Go listen to Justin Beiber singing about some little girls smile or some shit if you don't want to hear legitimate lyrics about things that actually happened.

  • @aterrorxx very true ..

  • @aterrorxx I dont think people are complaining about the song per se...theyre complaining about the inevitable and crassly delusional idiots who glorify the events it represents. Tbh mate youre the asshole if you cant see that.

  • this is about northern ireland I assume?

  • Is this about the Shankill Butchers that chopped up innocent catholic children, parents and elderly?

  • @calBHA1 It is.

  • I don't think this is meant to support the Shankill Butchers in any way... I mean, it's just a song. Of course, I don't understand the feeling of tragedy when one's family member(s) has/have been murdered by one of these most... Abominable creatures. But listen to the lyrics. The melody. They're not happy, they're not supportive of those animals at all. They're melancholy, almost creepy. The point of this song is not to support murder. It's to tell you what it is.

  • :/ why so many negative comments- it's just a song. :D a nice one at that- makes me feel peaceful.

  • @rorororonoa clearly depressed

  • @MRAK47ification no, i just like violence :)

  • One of my favorite songs by them. But then again, they don't have a bad song.

  • @TheMellobear I agree, they really don't have a bad song to their name.

  • @anathemaarienette Long live the King, the King is a Deadhead

  • The police are taking action against sick morons promoting bigotry and hatred.

Dont be surprised when you hear a firm knock on your door in the midle of the night.

  • You will find that this is just typical of Huns here in Ireland But we have civilised them abit and they only do it to dogs and cats still chad but it's better than humans

  • I find it amazing that republican apologists somehow feel they have the right to poi

  • Comment removed

  • @trollfinger My point is that it never fails to amaze the hypocrisy of IRA supporters & apologists who point the finger at the Shankill Butchers, while supporting the IRA who carried out the majority of murder's during the troubles, not to mention torturing people and dumping their bodies over the border to deny their famillies a funeral. The IRA simply didnt care who they murdered when they bombed packed towns & restraunts etc..

  • Comment removed

  • @uobcv i agree they are all wankers. The most of northern ireland wants to move on its the few and the stupid who want to keep it down. And some children are dragged up to believing in their parents bitterness. Most kids who slabber bout catholics and protestants dont even know why they are doing it!

  • Comment removed

  • @Crazycupmuffin

The Scary thing is they are true to themselves....but they are wrong, man from Northern Ireland.

  • this is a song for people with minds like a sewer

  • @MrBassmanbongo sarcasm? if so, i applaud you sir. If not, takes one to know one.

  • the butchers never changed there names and run,the ones that are still living, live mostly in north belfast.william moore died in his flat not so long ago,in Mount Vernon.basher bates ruturned to the Shankill when he was let out under the good friday agreement,

  • Shut up and enjoy the song.

  • You're all fucking retarded. The Decemberists intentionally pair the macabre with the whimsical. The Infanta is a big dead baby joke, for example.

  • how sick to make a song about pure evil.......fuck off decemberists, stick it

  • @MrBassmanbongo I KNOW RIGHT, i'd so rather listen to some prepubescent twat "sing" the same lyrics about joy and happiness over and over and OVER! The Decemberists RULE, go finger yourself you prick

  • they tortured and killed my sisters fiance.

  • sing this at camp "nashville butchers" always love it.

  • @SuperLoyalblue u sick cunt

just tell the ira were you are and they will sort you out like that retard lenny, u fucking terrorist loving scum

  • the shankill butchers were nothing but worthless scums, every oneof them deserves to be tortured, and seriously hurt, and torured the fucking scum, they will be rotting in hell for eternity, who ever supports them deserves to be equally shot

the RIRA or CIRA will sort them bastards out

  • dont understand how people can support the shankill butchers,at all

  • Comment removed

  • The police force knew who the were early on. Afterall the were just cathloics. Werent the?. That was their fucken mindset.

  • the ira sorted them all out well in the end up:)

  • @CollinsX6 they only got the leader lenny murphy and the second in command william moore died naturally supposedly, 9 of the 11 are still alive and free men, that fact really makes me wonder why there were not exceptions in the good friday agreement, how could they let them go after what they did

  • @kevslf1 lenny murphy got rigged with 90 bullets from an rpk machine gun

the rest of the butchers changed there names and ran like fuck

if they ever re-emerge theyl be shot simple as i can promise you that

  • The devil has most of them. Just waiting now on the rest. MAY THE BURN FOR ERTINITY

  • It wasn't sung to you in bed like a lullaby, its been "americanized". But I do remember my ma saying to me a few times growin up that the shankill butchers would get me, and it scared the fuck out of me. Seen a comment where some girl is complaining when she found out who they were: "I expected it to be from victorian times, I'm SO disappointed" or something. Aye,love, try growing up as a catholic boy with these men literally still walking the streets and living within 10 minutes of your house.

  • @TheJay9002 well said mate .. lets write a song about 9/11 and binladen . see how many yanks like it

  • @TheJay9002

I wonder what disappointed her, would she have thought they sounded "cool" if they were from Victorian times or something. I'm sure the Butchers have disappointed many people in their lives...but not in that way.

  • @TheJay9002 "These men literally still walking the streets and living within 10 minutes of your house"

It is people like you that drag Northern Ireland reputation down. Stop overreacting to the whole situation and move on. You honestly think there is people 5 minutes away from you ready to butcher you? Wise up, we have moved on from that. Stop giving the Americans false information as they will distort it even more. How about you tell them how Northern Ireland has changed in the past 30 years?

  • @nikeair94 awk fuck up you sad wee wanker. Do I sound like a fucking international ambassador? I never said I'm still worried about it, I said I remember my ma saying it to me as a child. And yes, kid, as surprising as it is to someone who grew up in the "new" N.I, I live in north Belfast and some of these people lived within 2-3 minutes driving distance of my house. Probably still do. Where you going next? Onto a video about golf to slabber about people talking about golf? Jesus christ...

  • @TheJay9002 ha ha slabber, that alone proves you are from NI. I grew up in the late 80s early 90s so I didn't get the harshest part of the troubles but I still got affected by it and it can be really tough and scary as a kid because you dont understand it all. So yeah ignore that guy. We have moved on but its still a huge part of our history and forgetting it will only let it happen again.

  • @TheJay9002 Dude, don't mind all these haters.

  • The oddest thing about me coming across this song is that my fiancé sings it to me at night. Even in the first couple weeks we were dating, he used to sing me to sleep by singing me this song. He told me his mom used to sing it to him and I thought they had made it up, never hearing it before. As he sang it more and more, I caught on to the lyrics and looked them up one day. To my surprise the story of the butchers unfolded before me. Now, my fiancé is currently deployed in the middle east and

  • @FIntyMAcC10 gtfo you fucking terrorist piece of shit.

  • So chilling.

  • Thank God for the volunteer soldiers of the Irish Republican Army. They took out the leader of the butchers, Lenny Murphy. The scumbag looked like a sieve when they were finished shooting the fucker.

  • this song is creepy cos its has liek a fairytale theme to something that was really ugly and bloody

  • 7 people disobeyed their mothers

  • up the u.v.f.

  • God this comes from the the murders who murdered inocent catholics includeing (nearly) my auntie

rid the world of these beings

  • @2Touchstone I've visited Northern Ireland on many occasions and always found the locals to be friendly and welcoming. It's the ones who have moved over the Irish Sea to Scotland and England that seem bitter for some reason. The weather wasn't bad last time I visited either. Drove my convertable along the Antrim Coast Road with the top down!

  • My cousin used to play this as a lullaby for me 0.o

  • Big man Lenny Murphy got his when the IRA found that cunt, pumped him full of lead.

  • Thank God the IRA rid the world of these scumbags.

  • This is just plain frightnening, but I can't stop hitting replay on my iPod!

  • I think this song made me genuinely afraid. Excuse me while I check my windows.

  • yes unfortunately. You can't sing a song like this if it's stuck in your head and your on Shankill Ave or any of the protestant areas in Northern Ireland. It's.... you can't.....

  • 7 ppl had their ribbons blown from their curls

  • the decemberists are good but walking down royal street in new orleans, i heard a couple with two bangos play this song..it was loads better. makes this look like a disgrace.

  • top people lol

  • fuck the shankill butchers i hope they all rot in hell i know the ra killed there share of civilians, but these cunts were just serial killers

  • i have to write an essay over the songs literary devices (random) the song is so creepy i know the story behind it but it is still eerie

  • 6 peoples little sister were caught awake by the shankill butchers

  • @raygun999 fuck, I meant to vote this up but accidentally voted down hahah.

So the thumbs down is actually a thumbs up :P

  • @anathemaarienette You can click thumbs up if you've already disliked it and it will change your vote.

  • @anathemaarienette

Don't worry; I'm on it. Normally, I don't vote on comments, but to negate your mistake I plussed him. Now it's like nothing happened.

  • @raygun999 I like the song but that comment was distasteful

  • @raygun999 id like to see you say that to the people who's family members were tortured for days , stabbed hundreds of times but with short knifes so they would be kept alive to endure more then after they would be taken to an alleyway where they would be brutally butchered by several men with fearsome weapons until they were unrecognisable and their throats cut so badly they were practically decapitated and body parts would be removed, it happened to many of my father's friends as young as 17

  • I had never figured out the context of this song, even though I searched for it. Then this week I was in Northern Ireland with my class and we walked along the Shankill road, and unfortunately this song god stuck in my head.

  • @justajumpingypsygirl

    Wikipedia, anyody?

  • @justajumpingypsygirl Unfortunately?

  • Definitely going to play this song when I have a kid who won't go to sleep. lol!

  • This song always strikes my fancy in October. Great story telling put to music.~

  • The Song - True Story

  • up the I.R.A

  • It was Craig that murdered Lenny not the IRA!

  • @HateFenians ino :L that im just saying up the ra :)

  • @HateFenians ya dirty scum KaH yaaaaaaa dirty orange cunt. dnt even reply scum bag. go y does da huns kill catholics? becuz dey r catholic see yas queers. gotta say lenny murphy brought fear 2 da catholic community. buh y. da Ra only killed brits nd touts buh wat da butchers dne 2 dem ppl was sick

  • In English or Irish please!

  • @MrGetthefunkout up the U.V.F.

  • @stioff im sorry but they cant beat the ira :)

  • wow ive never listened to anything like this before . i love it , perfectly eery .

  • Ulster is a British province, before that Ulster was a nation. Its never been a part of Ireland, and never will be.

  • so delightfully creepy!!

  • @weesox1690 why do you say that??

  • Actually... I should word that differently... It's based off of sectarian killings that truly did occur.

But mothers would tell their children that if they didn't sleep the Shankhill butchers would come and get them.

The Shankhill is the main street in the Ulster half of Belfast.

(And yes, though "Shankill is now spelt without the 'H' the Shankhill used to be spelled with one, and to honor this history I choose to spell it as such)

  • @SullivanLov3

    "the Ulster half of Belfast".

All of Belfast is in Ulster.

  • @ParamoreWorshipper

What I intended by the statement was: the half that is proud of their Ulster blood.

The Falls definitely doesn't advertise it.

On the Shankhill you can't escape it.

    That's what I meant.

    I know Belfast is Ulster.

  • @SullivanLov3

On the Falls they're proud of their Irish blood. They're still from Ulster, they don't deny that, but Ulster is still an Irish province. Nationalists are proud to be Irish, not overly proud of what part of Ireland they're from.

  • @ParamoreWorshipper - Ulster has been British province still Anglo-Norman times. Before that historically, archaelolgically and socially, Ulster was a nation seperate from Ireland, and it probably always will be.

  • @UnitedUlsterman

Ulster is Irish, with native Irish people, it's on the island of Ireland, it will always be Irish.

Ulster isn't currently Irish, part of it is.

  • Snakebitesjohn!!!

Most people in the republic (When I was living in and traveling the north and the republic) didn't pay much attention to troubles... I really do think it's more of a North thing.

I couldn't even ride in a cab in Belfast with a catholic driver without him bashing the Shankhill or vice versa with a protestant driver bashing the Falls.

For those of you who are reading this and don't know what I'm talking about.

This song is taken from Irish folklore.

  • @SullivanLov3 you obviously didnt visit my part of the country!!!

  • @SyringeKid He sounds nothing like Conor Oberst. If anything he sounds like Brian Molko, but definitely not oberst.

  • @HeyTrain haha I don't think he sounds like either at all. Love Bright Eyes and Placebo is alright, but don't think he sounds like Brian Molko really, either.

  • can i just say i was born and raised in the republic of ireland and very few us down here care about the ira and loyalist its not something we think about or get excited about i love my country and i love my right to not give a shit about the past and i'm catholic

  • @snakebitesjohn Ireland is my favorite country. Europes last bastion of life.

  • wth is yer problem? if you don't like the damn song listen to something else don't keep coming back. it doesn't glorify them, quite the opposite. "but something went horribly askew" isnt a compliment. it means they're fucked in the head. while it does make them sound like monsters in a fairytale, i don't get the sense that the decemberists are suggesting that these guys are awesome. not in the least.

  • ay yay yay never going walking at night while listening to this song

  • I heard the song first, then learned about the atrocities later - if nothing else, it's one heck of an educational song.

I don't think it cheapens the lives of the victims, nor does it glorify the killers. It does, however, raise the hairs on the back of my neck.

  • twobirdsatswim, thanks for commenting. we all see how your mind works now.

  • As for your snide and empty sneer, may the blunt-beaked woodpecker of eternity seek the grub of his only fulfilment in your anal passage and may the tapping noise cause the Police of Unreasonable Noise to carry you off to the New Guantanamo, there to be force-fed the Porridge of Understanding and Good Manners until you can pass muster. Goodnight,to the Ridiculous87.

  • twobirdsatswim .... there is a point to the song ... it goes back to history ... go look it up on Google....

this is a great song .. me and my friend play it all the time on the guitar

  • It IS a great tune, I been saying that from word 'Go'. You advise me to go look it up on Google. I don't need to. I lived down the road and was old enough to read the newspapers when it was happening, when I feared it could happen to my uncle, my cousin. That's my point; it is someone's history. And it has been treated here, in my (solitary!) opinion, in a flippant way. When one goes from the song to the history books and then back to the song again, is there not a sense of inappropriateness?

  • @twobirdsatswim I don't really see what's flippent about it, they merely took their inspiration from it. To be honest, name aside, this song doesn't appear to be about the real life murders.

  • @panteraboy123 That is where you are wrong, lad. What is flippent about a song which glorifies the Shankill Butchers, is simply the fucking fact that the Shankill Butchers kidnapped, tortured and killed Catholics. You stupid idiot. Meet the IRA in West Belfast and we will teach you to learn respect. The Decemberists "took their inspiration from it". What an ignorant fool you are

  • @panteraboy123 "The song doesn't appear to be about the real life murders". What the fuck do you know about the Shankill Butchers. If the song is not about the "real life murders" lad, what is the song about? You retarded lowlife. Visit us in West Belfast, and we'll well educate you. Now piss off and keep clicking on your keyboard

  • @RamsesIreland Do they mention Catholics? No. The Loyalists or republicans? No. The specifics of any case? No. The allude to them, the have the fucking name in the song, they don't actually glorify it. Unless i'm missing the line that goes" The Shankill Butchers were glorious and by the way FTP". Maybe it's just me, but i'm not seeing that. And you appear to have found some sort of underlying loyalistmessage in my comment, lecturing me about the IRA as if I havn't heard enough of that bullshit.

  • the freakiest song ive ever heard.....i cant stop shuddering.

  • I sing this to me daughter at night.

  • what happened in northern ireland

  • @franko31492 We basically fought a civil war with ourselves.

  • @Cruithnig

That's generally what a civil war is.
