For me it was always Dave in the track and Jimi live. (although he's notorious for forgetting lyrics!) lol also daves voice is softer and more distinctive, if I had to choose a voice to sound like though, I'd take the raspy rocky voice of mr Jameson!

Both are legends but in my opinion, daves voice has lasted longer, if here stuff from now.

I love both J.J and D.B...Jimi has had some incredible moments...then I go back to some of the older stuff and man... Survivor was sh!t hot back then. Some of those Bickler cuts like "Hearts a lonely hunter", "Santa Ana Winds" or "Freelance" are primal. Long live Bickler and Jamison!!!

Yes we do agree to disagree. Bickler only owns this song in that he was the original singer. He is awesome and I love his work and voice. I support his work and get a kick out of his real men of genius. During the Michael Jackson funeral at the Staples Center, Smokey Robinson spoke of how Michael Jackson sang one of Smokey's songs better than Smokey himself. I believe the same applies here with Eye of the Tiger and Jimi outdid Dave here with a better vocal. Dave is still awesome though!

I have to disagree with that. Dave hits the high C great but Jimi to me gives me more of that fist pump feeling. Dave's voice, although great, falls flat for me compared to Jimi's. Too much singing through is nose. Jimi doesn't do that. I love Dave and his power ful voice but compared to Jimi, Dave just doesn't cut it for me. I am happy that they are friends as witnessed on the latest articles and photos and they put their old guitarist Frankie and Robin Mcauley to shame.

As much as LOVE Dave Bickler's voice. I have to agree with Platanotaco about this: Jimi possesses a more powerful chest technique that makes Eye of the Tiger more powerful. Don't get me wrong: Dave does a great job and is acknowledged as the original singer and the one who put Survivor on the map, but Jimi has that "voice" that makes it better than Dave's voice. Dave uses his head voice on the highest notes (causing the sound to be somewhat thin and nasally), while Jimi doesn't do that.

Jimi is awesome on his songs, but Dave owns Eye of the Tiger. Jimi sounds a little....wimpy here. Jimi's high C sounds too pretty. Dave has this awesome edginess to his voice on that note that makes you want to pump your fist!

I totally respect that opinion, and Dave is awesome. He has great range and control of the songs he sings and is a legend and funny on his beer commercials. I just believe Jimi is better than Dave in my opinion and has a more tolerable and pleasant voice. He manages power and finesse very well. He's also funny in his Starbucks commercial. But Dave is great too. I listened to Robin, and he's got range, but definitely NO Survivor NOR Journey singer. I heard him singing Faithfully. Ughhhh!

The thing that makes it difficult to decide who's better is how similar their voices are: Both singers possess tenor singing voices and can easily sing over the tenor C. Dave has a more melodic voice which is great on ballads. Jimi has a more "rock" tone to his voice--making it perfect for belting out hits such as "Eye of the Tiger" and "Burning Heart." As much as I like Dave's voice, I have to give the edge to Jimi--he's got a better voice overall.

Maybe it's because I've been a fan so long, but I just don't 'hear' how people can't tell the difference between these 2. I can easily tell the difference. Dave is a good singer, but in my opinion, Jimi is much better. It's just a matter of preference, I guess.

I agree with you. Dave could hit the high notes quite well back in the days (not anymore, I heard him live and ugghhh). Jimi, however, has that vocal influence that makes it feel like someone you've known your whole life with his diversity and welcome approach to his music. Dave sang "The Search Is Over" fine when it comes to hitting the high notes, but no emotion, just winging it, not to mention, singing through his nasals. Jimi, on the other hand, sings very clear and no nasals.

Interesting idea. They sound nice together, but I think that David Bickler sounds more at ease singing this song. His voice is smoother and more melodic whereas Jimi Jamison's voice is strong and punchy. At least we know that Jimi is on key.

I think Jimi sang it the way he did on purpose to give punch to the song yet when you think about it, due to the fact that their voices sound so much alike especially compared to Robin McAuley, it's a great concept to have him to do the remake while the frontman of Survivor in 2005 when it was re-recorded. Many people I talked to didn't know that it was Jimi Jamison singing until I told them. They thought Survivor had the same singer all along.
