This cover summons up something other than than the jaded attitude of the original, so it's quite appropriate to put something deeper and more emotional into it. Bono is a superior singer to Lake in general, too, most definitely in this song.

It's in too high a register for his voice. As you get older your vocal range lessens, unless you are Jackson Browne and sing ballads. The mddile 8 he was straining, and he should go up, but he dropped an octave. Not a patch on the original, imo.
