So here goes again, I am nearly fifty and when I was young, I was ostracised, isolated, ridiculed, mocked and terrorised for being gay. I suffered with depression and alcoholism for the abuse I was given by others and for my self abuse.I prayed to God to be straight but it seems he made me this way. For all the pain I learnt compassion for others even the bad ones. When I hear a milestone in human rights rhetoric for "supposed second class citizens" with a first class speech. A part of me heals

I couldnt help myself weeping in my private room whie listening to this never heared speach, boldly spoken by a woman who could have also kept quiete and watch the lgbt slaughtered!. In parts of Africa and the Middle East, its illegal to be gay, sometimes with a death penalty. Before you say this is just part of Islam, remember that not too long ago it was illegal to be gay in the United States. Sodomy was a crime. No laws protected the lgbt community from discrimination. In the past few decades, we have made a lot of progress. We no longer tolerate the type of gay bashing that killed Matthew Shepherd. The lgbt community around the world still needs support.
