Here’s how I did the problem without watching

the solution first:

3X=2X+12-1

3X=2X+11-2X

3X-2X=11

X=11

Then I was watched how he did it.

Now I’m wondering if my way is wrong.

@MrRayz21 with the problem set up, you use the FOIL method, so it would look like :

3x+12=2(x+12)-1 which gives you

3x+12=2x+24-1 (then)

3x+12=2x+23 then:

-2x -2x

x+12=23

get x by itself by subtracting 12 from both sides, you get 11. Since mary is 3x. Mary is 33.

1.) 3x+12=2(x+12)-1.....(you multiply what's in the parenthesis first and you get 2x+24)

2.) 3x+12=2x+24-1 (here you bring the 2x to the left side of the equal sign. which makes it negative, and that makes 3x-2x=x. But then you also have to bring the 12 on the right side of the equal sign which makes 24 turn into 12 which leaves you with x=12-1)

3.) x=12-1

4.) x=11

Therefore

The son's age will be 23 in 12 years and the mother's age will be 45. Now, if you double the son's age like the problem said, you would get 46. And they said that the mother's age will be 1 less than that. So, the mother will be the 33 + the 12 which gives you 45. Now, 46 - 45 is what? 1 right? Dumbass.
