After watching a show about a psychopath and his logical / reasonable care for things and the eventual love for a wonderful character, and then see that Rita at whatever age her character was had the capability for those feelings with the third love of her life that she is sure will work out -- Rita may not have been able to accept it.

Julie is very intelligent, it seems. :O

If Rita would deny what Dexter does she does not truly love Dexter and never did. Love is knowing and accepting a person's faults but loving them anyway. Not ignoring them all together! Dexter caused not only her death but Paul's in a large way as well. He hurt Rita's children by letting them become orphans. Could she just ignore that?
