@MAVGR No, just the title is a pun on those. It does have a SOI reference, though. Although if you watch and listen closely, you'll see references to several of his short stories. For example, "The Haunter of the Dark," "Pickman's Model," that's about all I can think of right now, but the beginning where Trent is in the asylum saying he's not insane is also obviously a Lovecraft reference.
I think using ozzy osbournes 'Diary of a madman' Isnt as such a great idea as it would've been to at least use one of the few songs metallica wrote about cthulhu.
the life or the insanity one self had before finding bigger stars and life important things, very illusive thoughts yet for some hard to push away, I was one of thoose so I said IAK SAKKAK IAK SAKKAK and threw my Necro into wall and jumped on it before I burned it to hell, If you have that thing that makes you think diff you may have done the same one upon a time before the now. at least I don´t dream so no nightmares yeah.
Great song. I'm gonna have to check out this film. If any author could induce insanity it would have to be Lovecraft. Other Mythos-ish feeling films would be Children of the Corn, Rosemary's baby, The Fog, and of coarse The Thing.
A Lovecraft influence is there. All I'm saying is that there's no DIRECT reference to Lovecraft or the Cthulhu Mythos. Just saying. I still liked the movie.
"In the Mouth of Madness" is definitely a C'thulhu movie. It even says so in Wikipedia it's that obvious. Sutter Kane is the bastard hybrid of HPL and Stephen King. According to the Malleus Monstorum, Kane is an avatar of Nyarlathotep, one of the 999 Masks.
Although the film that's closest to a straight faithful adaptation of a Lovecraft Cthulhu story IMHO would have to be the short silent film 'The Call Of Cthulhu' that the HPL historical society created
Interesting point, to which the answer is probably no. There is a mythos story where physicists attempt to solve the Kruschtya equation, a strange physics problem, but in the process become avatars of Nyarlathotep.
The hotel owner is named Pickman, Cane talks about the "Old Ones", Cane's books The Hobbes End Horror, The Wisperer in the Dark and In the Mouth of Madness all have names similar to Lovecraft's (The Dunwich Horror, The Whisperer in Darkness and At the Mountains of Madness). And the film is in flashback with the main character in an asylum.
Not forgetting that one of the quotes in the film is directly from Lovecraft's The Outsider.
The movie wasn't supposed to be about the Cthulhu Mythos. It was supposed to be a suspense/horror movie in the same style of H.P. Lovecrafts works. The movie has ancient evils waiting to be reborn, and dark cults trying to help them awake, just like most of H.P. Lovecrafts works. The publisher of Sutter Cains books in the movie was also the same company that published H.P. Lovecrafts works in real life.
That was more of a tribute to "In the Mouth of Madness" more than anything else. You should have used actual Lovecraft adaptations like the Re-Animator trilogy, From Beyond or the great Call of Cathulhu silent film released a couple years ago.
Kann mir jemand sagen, wo ich eine "Übersetztung" oder sonstwas für die "schrift" der alten (also dieses Lä! Or'elyhe ; oder fhatgn!) finden kann? ich wäre dann sehr erfreut ;)
hey does anyone know 1 of lovecraft's books in which he is running from demon hounds that enter the world thru a 90 degree angle. if anyone knows da name plz tell me

Thnx for webbing this video, making me aware of the existence of this film. It looks... dissapointing, as all other attempts to make the movie that brings Lovecrafts universe to life visually, but i´ll definately have a look-see. "Diary of a Madman" was a fitting theme for this!

This movie could be SERIOUSLY good if it wasn't for the so UNserious music - Lovecraft & Ozzy Osbourne??! Yikes... what a combination! This could be really impressive with some DARK music on it... like, Raison D'etre, Controlled Bleeding, something in that vein.
This is from Dickman's Model, unfortunately, just a short story. H.P. LOvecraft is awesome. I feel, the monster from Cloverfield is based on something from Lovecraft. Maybe the monsters from the moving painting( in the inn where the old lady is torturing her husband and becomes a cthulu/ cloverfield type demon monster.
Is Cloverfield any good? I just saw, 'The Mist', and the lovecraftian influence is extremely aparant. I miss Buff the Vampire Slayer/Angel the series, as they were perhaps some of my favorite lovecraftian influenced shows.
I liked Cloverfield and have always heard of the Lovecraft influence in Buffy, but have never seen it. Definetly check out Cloverfield. Look up Slusho on the internet for some interseting hidden things and clues about Cloverfield. Also, King loves Lovecraft and always gives him his just due.
"In the beginning...great beings walked the Earth. Untold power emanated from all quarters, the seeds of what would come to be known as good and evil. The shadows stretched and became darkness. The malevolent among us grew stronger. The Earth became a demon realm. Those of us who had the will to resist left this place. We remained ever watchful. Then something new emerged from deep inside the Earth. Neither demon nor god. And it seemed that through this new race the balance might be restored."
Demon Origins: Buffyverse mythology traces the origin of demons back to a time before recorded human history, when the world was not controlled by human beings, but by the "Old Ones"--super-powerful and bloodthirsty beings (relative to us, anyway). We are not told exactly how they lost their claim to the Earthly reality, but humans are clearly in charge of it now (The Harvest, The Prodigal).
This not the original music for the classic Ozzy song, the bass and drums have been re-recorded. If you know the original "Diary of a Madman" you know what I'm talking about.....Just type the name "BOB DAISLEY" into your youtube or wikipedia and you will find out what I mean.
