So it is true: Robert the Bruce is indeed the greatest King of Scotland! A king who has applied the main principles of Machiavelli centuries before the great Italian political thinker could write them down in his famous books The Prince and The Discourses (on Livius)! His genius in war and political persistence are remarkable; but high King Robert reminds me of something the famous German histories Mommsen did say once about monarchy, which seldom finds a true king:
“Of all pitiful parts there is none more pitiful than that of passing for more than one really is; and it is the fate of monarchy that this misfortune inevitably clings to it, for barely once in a thousand years does there arise among the people a man who is a king not merely in name, but in reality.” – and Robert I of Scotland was one of these man who were not king in name but indeed!
No matter what, it always seems there's at least a little contempt for Scottish nationalism thrown in, and the national heroes have to be deconstructed in some way, shape or form, no matter how subtle.

The Yanks are the most mixed people in the world, so a ancestor line is near impossible to trace if you're from America or anywhere outside the country, and even if it were true (which it's not) it does not make you who you are.
I was brought up a catholic in the north west of england and nearly all my mates are prods - we dont give 2 flying fucks about religion ( well maybe keep eye on the local muslims ) but i can not understand this obsession with religion - pre roman times their was only britons a type of celts like the gauls . the romans leathered all of us culminating in the mons grampus battle near inverness = tolerance and each to there own I say

they hate each other because rangers are very protestant and celtic are very catholic and both of them are in the same city

the republic of ireland is pure catholic and thats why catholic celtic supporters fly those flags and love the pope etc
and england is pure protestant thats why the protestant rangers fans seem very english and love the queen etc
