While a resident physician, I quickly became friends with the Anesthesiologists. They would let me insert the endotracheal tube in patients scheduled for elective surgery. Early during my residency, I became highly skilled in performing this life saving procedure. During an emergency, one doesn't have much time to learn how to perform this procedure.
