Benny Hill was considered better than Monty Python by two TV stations (WOR and WLVI (books like The Benny Hill Story, by John Smith, show this!). And Hill was considered funniest man in the whole UK in a 1983 Current Biography article!
I worked at Pye Records in Mitcham when this was released - I used to take record orders from shops over the phone...none of us there could believe how well this was selling! Every time we took an order the numbers for Ernie were going up and up! It was the xmas #1 for 1971....it was that kind of era!
Under the blood red sky, they stood there face to face ......and Ted went for his bun! But ernie was to quick, things didn't go the way Ted planned, an a strawberry flavoured yogurt sent it spinning from his hand........Class
i share his birthday, 21st January.. he was a private and brilliant man, and times lonley lost soul too.. be can;t we all claim that at times. rip always x
Charlie Chaplin, was a fan of Benny Hill= he was invited to Chaplin's home in Switzerland by Chaplin's family and Hill discovered that Chaplin had a collection of his work on video. Hill was the first outside the family to be invited into Chaplin's private study. Burt Reynolds, Michael Caine, John Mortimer, Mickey Rooney, and Walter Cronkite, among others, expressed their admiration for Hill. 4- 21- 1992 the police found Hill deceased sitting in his armchair in front of the telly. I LOVE U
My late uncle was called Ernie and he was a milkman in Devon and Cornwall in the 60s. He hated this song, bless his soul!! I love it though, for some reason my favourite line is "..and he didnt half kick his horse." :oD
when all you get is re-makes "so-called" up-dates and re-hashed 70,s 80,s 90,s even 2007 songs no the music industry has killed itself by not looking for orignal artists who write there owen songs but hay anyone under 16 (which takes you back to 1992) will buy anything evne "singles" lets get back to reality music these days are re-cycled songs rip-offs nothing new unless like i said your under 16 and get your parents to fork out £4 for something that they,ve got on vynil in the attic
I love Benny but the reality is that he recycled a LOT of old Chaplin gags. I don't say that to take anything away from Benny because Chaplin basically recycled a lot of gags from his influences. The real problem today is that artists no longer emulate their influences but rather flat out copy them.
was this really 1971 where have the yers gone and why cant we hear songs like this again....oh yeah we live in a world of x-factor 1 hit wonders....can someone get a time machine quick get me outta here

I emigrated to Canada a few years after Benny Hill did this song, I have not heard this brilliant bit of Benny Hill in over thirty years, made me homesick. Its still as brilliant today as ever.
17, and my father is the only one i know whose heard of him and liked him. whas wrong with the world today! all caught up in their rap music, and such. i don't understand, and im part of the generation! give me an old movie and a recliner anyday! praise Arthur Hill!
Amen! This is classic and we need more of it today. Television and music is in s sad state with very little of anything quality. This video is priceless!
