Rev. MLK, himself, would not have wanted a holiday named after him. He was a very articulate Christian man who preached a lot of good sermons. He didn't want the world thinking of things in terms of "black and white", just as Americans. Senator McCain made the mistake of seeing him as MLK wanted to be seen. Without regard to race or color; just as an American with the same rights and responsibilities as he had. He was in the military fighting along side Americans, without regarding color.

The problem with this day as I see it was not only the people who didn't want it because MLK was black, but the people who threatened the states with boycotts etc. if they didn't agree to it. Many states voters voted against the day. You can't cry "one man one vote" and "count all the votes" unless you mean it. Washington and Lincoln do not even have their own days anymore. Regardless of the past, MLK does.
