as far as i know, he is the one that is asked in LA, to record drum lines for other solo artists etc, even avril lavigne that has her own drummer. Josh Freese is very good too, he can play all different kinds of genres. Anyway, musicians cant be compared, but as far the popularity and quality goes, i say travis is pretty high, aswell as freese.

Jazz is very heavy on grace (ghost) notes, has a very light touch, and allows mid tones to really shine through from other instruments. In rock, most of the hits are power-oriented, conquering mid-tone, piercing through bass and treble in a very dynamic way. For rock, Travis has some f*ckin chops.
i always hear people knocking travis for this solo.
but you can't forget that he was only about 24 when he was playing this, and then you're like well listen to Neil Pert solos. well yeah, Neil Pert is an excellent drummer but he's also older than travis, so that has a big impact on it.
Then check out Tony Royster. Tony was already better than Travis at age 11, when he won the Guitar Center drumoff. Now he's either 24 or 25 I think, and he's, you guessed it, still in a league that Travis will never reach, no matter his age.

omg i so regret saying that...i learned much more about travis now since then when i just started learning about him. he could play metal or most genres anyways but i do think punk suits him best
