Unless they have a laws enforcing common-law marriage, even then there are guidelines that have to be satisfied beforehand. But I still don't think even couples that are classified as this can't even claim to be married on taxes. So even from a nonreligious legal point boyfriend-girlfriend relationships for the most part are an illusion.

Since marriage is supposed to signal significance for a relationship why do men and women expect to have it all before marriage? If a couple isn't married they are single but constant sex and all the other things involved in relationships are still expected. @princessfly11 Matter of fact, a lot of states don't even recognize the boyfriend-girlfirend thing legally. Unless they have a laws enforcing common-law marriage, even then there are guidelines that have to be satisfied beforehand. But I still don't think even couples that are classified as this can't even claim to be married on taxes. So even from a nonreligious legal point boyfriend-girlfriend relationships for the most part are an illusion.

Marriage, monogamy, sex, time spent together, basically everything is up for negotiation in any relationship. Some might use the Bible as the basis for their rules, but that isn't necessary. Since marriage is supposed to signal significance for a relationship why do men and women expect to have it all before marriage? If a couple isn't married they are single but constant sex and all the other things involved in relationships are still expected. I wouldn't say that a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship isn't real, realistically its that weird middle ground between "FWB" & "putting a ring on it". But being bf/gf IS where the B.S. starts because once titles are introduced so is the assumption of entitlement.. and once people feel entitled to their so-called bf or gf's affection that's when the relationship dynamic changes. Also FWB is a real dangerous game too. I mean you become less vigilant about using protection regardless of who else you and the other person may sleep with. For dudes, most FWB aren't the type you would wife, being real. Even though most of us have had prematural sex. Its best to just have sex in the confines of committed marriage.
