It's difficult to be born in the most elitist, capitalist nation in the world, but the efforts to counteract this system are well worth it. Once a social consciousness begins to predominate in the population, manifestations fighting for socio-economic equality will be seen, not only as necessary, but as simple acts of common sense.

The Republicans have focused on deriding ACORN and tying it in to voter supression efforts. I can't help wonder why they act so threatened by people in the communities organizing themselves to address issues in the communities.

I LOVE ACORN! we need acorn to focus on using it's power and influence to organize the poor in to local ,state, and national community congresses. and help them to organiz in their own areas, this will empower the masses and unite a diverse "we the people" whose local community congress can train and teach concepts. once the communty congresses are set up nation wide, we call a national congress to bring them all to order and decorum. the Genesee county community Congress of Flint Michigan.

Gov't funds: true. But I'd rather see some of it go to homeowners who are losing their homes than the bankers to pay for their bonuses for making the bad loans in the first place.

It is undoubtedly true that many people bit off more than they could chew, but the majority of folks in this situation were the victims of a set of practices that emphasized quick profits over the ability to pay. ACORN fought those practices for a decade, but the industry always blocked needed reforms. And here we are

I think we both chose Tax Day for obvious reasons. It is tailor made for rallies about government spending priorities. We just disagree about those priorities.

I will say that as an organization of low and moderate income families we have an orientation towards policies that improve their daily lives. Rich people have plenty of friends and plenty of power and can advocate on their own behalf. We're advocating for the rest of us.

We also disagree that taxes are punishment.

ACORN is not disrupting the tea parties. Until a producer from Fox News called last week we didn't even know they existed. We are organizing our own events to support the priorites in the current budget resolution.

Also, I don't know if you knew this about the recovery package, but it cut taxes for 95% of the taxpayers in the country. It is now showing up in my paycheck. So I don't know what you mean about tax increases.

Depends on what help you are talking about. Some of it comes from changes in the bankruptcy laws that allow judges to adjust the terms of the mortgage, just as welathy people can do with their second houses and yachts. In this case the money comes from the borrower.

Some of it comes from specific funds that can be used to assist homeowners with their payments. In this case the money would come from the government.

And a lot of it is still up in the air.

This is just dumb. ACORN isn't getting any money in any of the recently passed spending bills. Not in the recovery package, not in the TARP bailout, not in the spending authorization that just passed this week.

There are no funds set aside for ACORN and the only pieces ACORN is even eligible for are competitive grants awarded to nonprofits for things like lead abatement and foreclosure outreach.

I don't know where you people get these crazy ideas, but ACORN isn't getting billions.

The problem was that the Republicans don't want poor people

or minorities to vote so they trumped up a media campaign when the reality was that ACORN helped show where a few contractors handed in fraudulent registrations. ACORN acted responsibly. The GOP and Right Wing Media had a correlated effort to discredit them.

Umm, that's just absurd. I don't see how helping foreclosure victims stay in their homes, raising the minimum wage, fighting the practices that led to the mortgage meltdown, and helping to rebuild the Gulf Coast is either "attacking from the inside" or "bringing this country to its knees".

The only fraud that has occured this election with ACORN's name on it is voter registration fraud committed by a handful of canvassers trying to get paid for doing no work. We're talking about 9500 cards out of 1.3 million. The investigators looking into this have access to all our records and, in the end, the truth will come out. You will be disappointed.

ACORN members have a PAC called ACORN Votes, which does endorse candidates on the Federal level.

ACORN members in some states also belong to various state PACs called, for example, CA ACORN PAC (CA APAC) which endorses candidate on the state and local level.

ACORN, the membership organization, does not endorse candidates on any level.

Please cite your source for this assertion. Please show where a state has said that it would investigate ACORN except that it doesn't have enough money.

You will not because they do not exist.

Because (1) ACORN is not being investigated for voter fraud - all allegations related to voter registration fraud, which is different. (2) There are no on-going investigations into ACORN, its officers, or current staff. (3) ACORN turned over all evidence of problems and coopearted fully in prosecutions.
