For e.g, with the Backflip (motus), by rooting you can update it to Gingerbread (2.3.3). You can't update pass 2.1 without rooting

Hi Sole. I did redownload another version on SuperOneClick but it still says failed. I see a lot of people are having the same problem. Do I have to unlock my phone before I can use these programs?

I can root my phone fine because I see Super User, but when I use SuperOneClick to allow non market applications it says FAILED because it says it requires my phone to be rooted. (???) Please help. Thanks in advance!
