  • Amazing... I mean... My monitor melted due to the awesome intensity. O_O

  • thumbs up if you serched this beause of famliy guy :D

  • Never played Magic: the Gathering. Always wanted to, even had some cards once, but never played.

Right now, I live in a place where there is no possibility of playing IRL. So I thought about getting this game.

    Is experience necessary?

    Is this like playing IRL?

I will be moving to somewhere civilized in a matter of few years, so I want to get started.

  • @AsbjornOlling the same as do, please tell me if you need experince to play it

  • i think yu gi oh is more cool, but magic looks more mature and less kids-friendly

  • really?, even the video games its all trading card play??? >.>

  • I was expecting an action game

  • @lioncircleantilope my point exactly.

  • yu gi oh is so much better

You would expect Hasbro or Wizards Of The Coast to run Magic the Gathering, but you are wrong. Shops like StarCityGames have ruined MTG by making the game too costly for kids and young adults to enter and play without spending $700-$1000 just to play standard FNM.

For $400 one can buy an xbox360, 1 yr subscription to xbox live and 5-8 games

    Or a PS3 and 3-4 games

those shops are giving kickbacks to the designers and destroying the Hasbro company at same time

  • @BBradshawProductions u can make magic deck with 100$ and be one of the best....700 - 1000$ is sipmly lol , u really think it cost so much ?

  • @BBradshawProductions go look on line how much card costs ....common 0.1$ uncomon 0.25$ rare 1$ mythic 3 - 20 $

  • @BBradshawProductions Shit. Where do you buy your xbox games? I want to know where I can get 8 games for $200.

  • another yu gi oh like game....

and wtf does the 2nd top comment even mean....

  • @Brendon411Beast he could've kept the troll alive that's why it was highlighted

  • Okay I just purchased Magic the Gathering duels of the planeswalkers 2012 version, but not the original Magic the gathering duels of the planeswalkers, however I have a question, may sound dumb, but I was wondering about the dlc expansions 1,2, and 3 from the first original version that was released, are those compatiable with the new version? Or are the two versions of separate games altogether?

  • on PC looks better

  • After i saw the trailer i thought it was a cool game... After i say the gameplay.. well.. these will be my last words...

  • This is soooo lame compared to the awesomness of this game's potential!

  • is it a card Game NOOOOOOOOO!

  • Hey xbox fats

  • TOO much ACTION this game WILL entertain u for HOUR (2 hors per game should be fun but 2 wrong move and u will waste ur time)

  • why didnt you regen the troll ascetic?

  • why didnt you regenerate the troll? bad play

  • cool!

  • Add me on xbox live to play: BlueNavy1

  • add me on psn to play this its motball96

  • WTF IS THIS????? I used to see kids play this game back in school and never understood this shit..

  • @SaggyBawlz This game goes way back into the 80s and 90s as a card game. It was a bit omre complicated and strategy based than both pokemon and yugioh and attracted the most intense card players. As a kid i got hooked on this game. In my area there were to comics/card stores that held tournaments and i foud myself somewhat of a prodigy placing very well in them being 11 years old and facing people well into there 20s and 30s i havnt placed much since then and this videogame is offering a comebac

  • @feefee8 same here man i got hooked on a lot of card games like yugioh and pokemon but when i got into magic this took over i still play now actually and its still fun

  • @feefee8 It did the same for me. I Dusted off an old box of Magic cards from 1994 after I bought this for PS3. It's got me thinking too.

  • wtf? why didn't you revive your troll?!....totally dorking out here

  • Why wouldn't you regenerate?

  • REGENERATE the damm troll!!!

  • Played the trial of this game on my PS3 and I'm quite impressed. To add up, I this was the first time I have EVER played Magic: The Gathering. And... I really like the whole concept of this installment. Although, the trial is very limited and I can't say too much, but it's still a very good game for newbies and veterans alike. Finally, it's quite cheap :)

  • 0:04~0:17 wtf?

  • @YaiBugy he is thinking

  • @YaiBugy What? Let the man think.

  • They should add more cards and let you edit your own deck. Other than that, it's fun. :)

  • Do you buy cards online too?...

  • MAGIC THE GATHERING A MOVIE

    /watch?v=L-vM1vQlKjU

  • O_o is that really that interesting...?

Well, at least they are not frakking pieces of paper.

  • @MithranArkanere ignorant bitch.

  • @maxgunn555 A game is just a set of rules.

If the rules are changed into a digital format, that's better than having pieces of paper.

Paper is something for the old centuries.

I would have made it look better.

The table would be a landscape, and the lands each side takes would change their landscape.

And the summoned creatures and spells would appear in the landscape.

As it is, it's just digitalized paper. Calling that a videogame it's like calling a Kindle 'portable videogame console'.

  • @MithranArkanere firstly i thought your'e trying to say magic the gathering is bad. and you shouldnt say that simply because it is the one of the oldest and the best tournament card game out there. the real life cards arent just paper they actually the finest quality paper in that they're quite plasticy. simple games like this and chess are absolutely fine in non digital format. i do agree however that if they do make a video game for this they might as well add in exciting animations.

  • @maxgunn555 *you're... and i agree that it is fine the way it is, nothing digital i mean.

  • how can i play this on pc?

  • I loved MTG in the mid of the 90's, I've got a Revised (3rd), Alliances and Ursa's Legacy collection.

By now MTG had lost the initial spirit... extrapowered card (like "U can't lose"), tons of expansions...

  • @FatBox well don't worry! They're about to launch a new technic color :)

  • try out battleforge if u like card games. it is a real time card strategy game AWSOME!!

  • @echoskybound Im 13 and I just came back from an overnight camp where I learned how to play magic (the camp wasn't MTG related at all) in 1 day. There, we had a "closed-deck tournament" (that means they supply you with a deck or 2 if you don't have any) and aproxcemetly 60 out of 150 kids ages 8-15 competed against eachother. So you see, it is still VERY popular among kids.

  • I'd played MTG back in 1997-2006 and yugioh! from 2000-2009 and both are grate games so i have no idea what you guys are arguing about. fan boys need to grow up!

  • I love this game but I wish they did a better job on the deck editor, I hate how you can barely even customize your decks. Also, there needs to be more decks! :D

  • its amazing , since u´ve played this in anytime of ur life

like me , fires for the win

  • @TheMetal88 Magic came out way before yugioh you retard

  • cheap yu gi oh rip off.

  • @TheMeta88 LOLOLOL YOU DID NOT JUST SAY CHEAP YUGIOH RIPOFF LMAO YUGIOH WAS A RIP OFF OF THIS LOL , MAGIC CAME OUT WAY BEFORE YUGIOH, THIS IS JUST A NEW "GAME" THE ACTUALLY CARDS ARE WAY BEFORE YUGIOH( I dont hate Yuigioh BTW)

  • @nofacesniper oh ok. thats fine. i was unaware. thank you.

  • @TheMeta88

Infants such as yourself should not be allowed to use the internet.

  • @lordkamper infant? well then arnt u intelligent. i was only brought up with yu gi oh. i never heard of magic gathering. i guess it must have....sucked.

  • @TheMeta88

Yes, that's why the card games you played copied it, because it sucks.

  • @TheMeta88 There are a lot of great tabletop games I hadn't played until recently, it doesn't mean they're bad. Magic's been around since the early 90's, and Pokemon and Yu Gi Oh came out around ten years later. Yu Gi Oh is a bigger seller I think, Magic is a little more on the complicated side, probably not as popular among the younger audience these days.

  • what the fuck!! its a card game?

  • @zapbolt wow, really? i mean come on the games been around afew years now

  • @SiantDread mtg has been around for 35 years on a console only 2 years

  • @willzyboy12 You're disgustingly wrong. Magic has been around for 13- going on 14 years.

  • @thatparkourdude 35 years now lol

  • Stupid played

  • problem with this game is drawing cards, sometimes you will end up drawing 10 lands in a row, wtf, do they even have cards shuffling system?

  • Is it possible to play that on PC? like single player game or online. I would really like to play it on my pc!

  • @alexnoob yeah, you can purchase the full game or download the demo from the steam store

  • Pokemon!!! Gotta catch em all

  • can you make your own eck in this for online play

  • all cards available for my dispposal???? or just planeswalkers up?

  • this game is stupid the AI always gets all the best cards in there 1st hand and u always get stuck with shit!

  • @yaHARmeMATEY You just suck man. I have this game and all is fine. Learn to play.

  • People better turn off the stupid damage effects before playing online.

  • So much more could be done with this concept if it included cinematics.

  • yey yu-gu-oh XD

  • Lol @ board games o.o

  • Thanks for leaving the sound in. I'm on the fence about getting this but could stand not to hear the Diablo town portal, Dark Forces grenades, and Doom imps over and over again in yet another game.

  • @rax7 magic the gathering - i think it's more popular than yu gi oh nowadays

  • @rax7 Its a card game released long before yugioh much more complicated and requires a lot of strategy plus its alot of fun

  • @rax7 yu-gi-oh is children crap MTG is a much more serious and strategical game

  • @bizimoton both are children's card game, really '-' and both are awesome =)

  • @esgoteiro Lol Ive played magic and its defo not for kiddo's -.-

  • @gamersAproductions I started playing it when I was a kid, I'm still not really mature now and still play it. It's colorful, cute, has cool monsters... everything needed to attract kids =)

  • @bizimoton i do prefer magic, though

  • "Hmmm do I cast overrun.." a dilemma that has never faced an experienced magic player....

  • looool,no monster animation?!EPIC FAIL

    AND it looks really boring...

  • OMG NOOOB

  • Check out Magic Workstation, no doubt the best way to play magic online...

  • lol use two overruns and get double trample! to bad double trample doesn't exist

  • Ive been dreaming for the day to come when the game would come to a gaming system.

  • this is boring, It's more cool to play with real cards

  • @asantos12345 Its also far more expensive.

  • They released a game on 360 when? I play mtgo on pc.

  • pc version should look this good

  • @jmosler9 It does, its no difference

  • @jmosler9 i can...get video card! and then you can play games like cod black ops,mw2,BFBC2, and any other game tht is out there for pc

  • @jmosler9 No offense, but if it doesn't you've got yourself a shitty computer.

  • @jmosler9 it is i player the demo

  • Regenera al Troll!!!!!

  • Where did you got this game?

  • i play with green too

  • nice

  • There have been countless time when I would be winning, and all of a sudden I would draw nohting but lands. Does anyone know how to remedy this?

  • @Jsidhu762 i do in the card game but is this on ps3

  • Like people are already to stupid for playing it against real humans without a computer helping and making special effects.

  • Does this game exist for PC?

  • according to wizards (the developers) theyre thinking about it

  • Quick question, I'm relatively new to Magic, and I have the gist of everything and such, but one effect I'm not sure about is the "Fear" effect. What does it do exactly?

  • "Fear" makes your creature blockable by black and/or artifact creatures only.

  • @Country0Metal0Boy A creature with fear can only be blocked by black creatures or artifact creatures, if memory serves.

  • It's dumb that this Xbox game makes it look like damage dealt causes the victim's toughness to decrease. Without wither, that does not happen and no creature in Standard has wither. It's not the toughness that decreases, it's the damage marked that increases. Get this wrong and you won't understand that one means destruction and the other means a mere ticket to the graveyard. There's a difference.

  • Wither puts -1-1 counters, this doesnt

  • That is exactly my point. That is why the toughness should not decrease, because it's not Wither. So why does this game show the toughness decreasing as if the creatures had wither?

  • Achem.. just to avoid misinformation, here ya go everyone. Official MTG 2010 rule book glossary definition for destroy:

"To move a permanent from the battlefield to its owner's graveyard. Creatures are destroyed when they've taken damage equal to or greater than their toughness..."

To be destroyed, is to go to the graveyard.. there's no difference.

And toughness does lower through combat damage, if it didn't, what would be the point of the clean up step?

okay and nerdrage and flaming begins

  • Comment removed

  • @glovaxlr

You need to read rule 701.6b - to destroy means to move a permanent to the graveyard but vise versa is not necessarily true. See rules 704.5f, g and h. Notice that rules g and h concern "destruction" while rule f does not (as I said before, there's a difference). This is why the event described in rule f cannot be replaced by regeneration nor ignored by "indestructibility."

  • @sandbar.

guh. good call. i was callin out of the basic r00l book XD.

i just started last week and wanted to sound like i knew something. fail. thanks for that knowledge though, now i know before i go tackle some fnm! =]

  • this game looks coll cant wait to get xbox live this christmas but can u get like every card know or what? cause if there is only pre-made decks than thats lame :(

  • just get some real cards, meet some of your friend and have fun playing a trading card game...i think a CARD game, THE card game, should not be transformed into some kind of bad, soul less crap like this.

  • actually me, personally i love this game, so what if they are pre assigned decks, and i personally love the original card game i hav a sick vamp deck at home. but still, i like how you dont need to debate about rules when they shuffle the deck for you, dont cheat and give you a good hand with balanced mana. and yes i dont like it that you cant customize your deck :( so i agree but i think over all the game is good but card game better

  • if you cant customize your deck this game is bad

(by the way i think the old rules were better too)

  • so, this is basically wizards gateway drug into buying the physical cards. i hear you can't customize your decks and you have limited control over your resources, etc. amirite?

  • Is this game with the latest rules? cuz to be honest i hate the new rules.

  • Actually from personal experience with atleast the demo the tutorial does help explain what to do. They also highlight cards you can currently use at the time. In game "time out" system to think of what to do. And a Experience/ Novice deck system that doesn't allow to much customization but gives you decent decks to work with. personally I felt a little hurt that I couldn't make my own deck but I found a deck that is close to mine.

  • I see a lot of posts where people are having problems with the rules being too complex. The only real way to understand the rules is to just keep playing and practicing. More experienced players will help you understand as you go. MtG can take awhile to understand. I have been playing for more than ten years and I still get hung up on some of the rulings.

  • so i take it this game is more like the trading card game and not like that wierd magic the gathering game that was for the xbox and pc (i think)?

  • I just wanna know why he didn't Regenerate the Troll Ascetic...

  • same here

  • @bazaaretw I know right?! It's a sin to never regenerate any troll.

  • @bazaaretw because the player is noob! obviously.. LOL

  • a question, in this game there is complete cards database?

  • Half the time I find someone to play on Live I get stuck in the loading screen.

The other half I can't play my mana.

    Anyone got the same issues?

  • It's a good thing "mana" isn't a card to play.

  • how i can have this game ? i have xbox live ...

  • you can download it, with 800 microsoft points

  • marketplace

  • is this only online

  • LOL. Wow. Just... wow.

I love ignorant dipshits like SteevisPeevis. People like him who are just jealous because they have about as much brains as they do penis (see: none) and can't fathom playing anything that requires more strategy than Chutes and Ladders.

It's okay though, Steeve. We won't make fun of what a retarded, friendless, life-long virgin you are. Why, that would just be mean.

  • Protip: what won't get you laid is that pathetic name-calling way of arguing. You look just as retarded as he does. It's like a contest to see who can make their own side look worse.

There are plenty of reasons why Magic is awesome. The strategy in building a deck from thousands of cards. Playing requires tactics, deciding when to play cards to balance short-term vs. long-term, and a bit of a random element to keep things interesting.

If you can't argue properly then don't make us look bad

  • Protip: I don't really need protips on arguing or getting laid from you. Trust me.

I have every bit as much of a right to say what I'm saying you do. We don't need a nursery maid in here. So go play one on someone else's time.

The point of my earlier post that the guy is a brainless asshole that can't comprehend a game like MTG so he makes fun of those who can. I've seen his kind before.

  • Yeah I know his kind and I see them all the time as well and hate them as much as you do but the solution isn't becoming an even bigger brainless asshole. I love MtG and appreciate you defending it, but pretend you're fighting him with a blue deck instead of a red one ;)

  • Oh, I get it! Calm, cool, collected, stopping his moves before he makes one. lol

OMG, I'M A GEEK. Anyway, I guess I see your point. I just hated my kind of crowd being made fun of all the time for being different.

  • Well that makes them idiots. They don't deserve the pleasure of your time nor the victory of bringing you to their level.

There's nothing more frustrating to a bully than someone who calmly stands their ground when they're picked on. They want you to acknowledge their superiority, so if you want to piss them off, calmly respond to their words like they're as much threat as flies. They can't resort to violence on the internet, and if they do in reality you'll get more support for being civil.

  • Do most people just stick to the basic rules cuz I just looked through the "comprehensive" rules and holy shit I understand it less than my quantum mechanics course.

  • Well generally it's just basic rules with every sentence followed by "unless the card states otherwise." Comprehensive rules are brought out when there's a dispute about how a certain effect behaves and are only used as a sort of encyclopedia.

  • I read rule 704.5q.

An aura is an object so this rule is basically saying "Objects unattach, even auras, but not auras." Also, do these objects unattach spontaneously so that attaching them is like sticking a piece of paper to a fridge without a magnet. Lol. I've already begun reading the "basic rules". They are too basic. They don't even tell you what happens when a creatures blocks multiple attackers. So I have a choice, "too basic" or "nonsensical". I choose both but it's confusing.

  • Well a creature can't block multiple attackers... Unless there's some card that says it can, and then you would simply play it out normally with each side distributing damage they receive like what happens with banding or when multiple creatures block one attacker.

And I'm assuming the rule is "Objects unattach, except auras." In that case it's simple, they're pointing out an exception. What's the problem with auras being objects? It wouldn't make sense to say "except auras" if it wasn't.

  • To paraphrase, it states "All objects unattach. And similarly, all objects except auras unattach." Two different and complete sentences. That's the equivalent of saying, "All objects unattach. No, not all objects unattach." I KNOW auras are an exception cuz they have to be but the point is I am forced to reject what the rules say because the rules make no sense. I was saying auras being an exception makes sense. But the rules don't because the rules say they are and also aren't an exception.

  • Oh those haters... (of everything _they_ don't do)

You know it's still pretty easy to trace them and have a serious damagefest on their puny PC's... >8D

  • I imagined this game soooo diferent, i mean when you play in real life you feel like a planeswalker in the top of an obelisk with a lot of lands at the bottom an Great creatures over these lands vs another planeswalker and..... in this game... just a simple animation of the cards -.-

  • Well, i don't play this game... I play with the actual cards, and still get laid... why shouldn't anyone get laid because they play it on xbox instead? Girls do stuff guys don't like, but they still get laid... No difference, it's just finding the right girl/girls D:

  • thats even worse playing with the cards... yea and girls do stuff we hate but there is a thing we men call a male sexual drive... we need that pussy to survive... woman can use dildos all they want.. they dont need some nasty man to satisfy their sexual needs.

let me guess.. you guys play dungeons and dragons too!!!!

  • I was playing cards with my little brother just a few hours ago (i'm 16 he 12)and with my bad english and all can understand a little about the conversation.

lol at you guys fighting for this shit you are so gay

and steevis, i'm not sure buddy ,but i think a "you tube guy" with colorful profile, videos etc and answering every post with less of 4 hours of difference has less chances to get a girl srsly .

let me guess ... you have a lot of friends on facebook too!!!

  • I guess you're the kind of guy where everything that matters is pussy, drinking and being a dickhead?.

And no, i don't play dungeons and dragons or anything else.. I just enjoy spending time with a game of magic every now and then when i have time off work. If you think people playing this game don't get any pussy, think again.

An no, we don't need pussy! Gay people are an example of that, they survive just fine without. Go somewhere else if you think those who plays it is gay or w/e you think

  • did you just compare a gay to a man? hahaha..

  • Ha, you basically admit that you're pussy whipped. So an animal that lives only to eat and breed is above someone with imagination. Interesting.

  • Actually many a female enjoy this game even more so than COD4 or GTA4.

  • Nice English Javier. I don't care much for fat emo sluts. :)

  • Who are you talking to?

  • I wonder where the world would be if everyone justified their existence by the number of whores they've stuck their dick into. Any girl worth having is going to want just as much stimulation between her ears as between her legs, if you can even comprehend that sentence.

  • i heard that you can't make your decks of your choice is this true?

  • I'm still trying it out but it seems to be that you start with a certain *base* deck, and you build *on* that. So you can never remove the base cards, but you can put stuff on top of it.

Which I don't think is very good really. Even though I'm an MTG newb (coming from Yu-Gi-Oh), I can see I'll grow tired of the set cardbase after a while.

  • no you won't, if u play MTG in real it doesn't matter what happens really about deck making, i dunno that's that just the way i feel.

  • No, you can only add onto the existing decks, so even though you might want to create a 60 card deck, in this game you end up with an 80 card deck or even worse. It has NO full deck editor to allow you to create your own truely custom deck.

  • its true you can only choose from the decks you unlock

  • It's true, WoTC holds an iron grip on their cards. Why make a game that allows you to customize your own decks when they could have you pay to make your own REAL decks, or pay on MTG online. Hopefully they release a DLC allowing deck customization, but at this point it's pure specialization. What you do is unlock cards to add to your deck. This however runs the problem of bloating your deck with some useless cards, although because of the way some games play, ridiculous cards help long game.

  • The game is a lot of fun, well worth the 10 bucks

  • how you get this game plz tell me!!!!!

  • download it of xbox live.its coming out some later for the pc
